Jim, I’m more concerned in the way outcomes like this are presented. It comes across as sheer doom and gloom and perception in danger of not getting through to the second phase.
As you rightly point out, you can still be paired with good quality opposition when it comes to the draw.
It strikes me for many a year, some of us are just left feeling depressed with this feeling of being cagey of so called uncertaintly rather than celebratory and being able to loosen up.22nd November 2017 at 11:24 pm #7839

Nil, I certainly don’t feel depressed about being in the champions league group or knock out stages. I never thought City had a chance of reaching the CL 10 years ago, and you would do well to remember that that feeling applies to the majority of fans in this country. Do you know how I feel?
Intrigued mainly as to who we get in the next round. A little bit excited about how far we will go and thinking about whether I can get to an away game this season. We as fans are lucky to be here! So please don’t give me that hard luck and depressed, doom and gloom nonsense.
Imagine how Leeds fans have felt the last 15 years or so. In the early nineties they were in the CL semi final and then fell spectacularly to the first div. They have been insolvent what twice? Had points deductions, Had terrible owners and even this season just as it looked as if they might gain promotion back to the PL they go on a bad run and got hammered by Wolves tonight. If you were Leeds fan I might have a little bit of sympathy for you!
You also need to remember that this is just football and an escape for 90 mins from real life hassle and crap we have to deal with. Sure it’s important and I can be bloody cantankerous when we lose just ask my Mrs. But to me it’s an escape and at the moment it’s a bloody enjoyable one.23rd November 2017 at 7:12 am #7840
Jim, I’m not sure of the permutations regarding top spot as I think 3 sides could all end up on 12 points but Utd not getting top spot would mean having to lose at home to Moscow. Frankly, if we lose that, we don’t deserve top spot. We should have more than enough depth in the squad to not need to play a full strength side. José may start with a strong side and hope to go a goal up early so he can bring them off23rd November 2017 at 8:18 am #7842

United are through to the Round of 16 there is no way they will lose by 6 to Moscow.
All the PL club’s will almost certainly be in the Round of 16 which complicates the draw for the PL clubs because it limits who the PL clubs can be drawn against.
Chelsea for instance if they were to finish 2nd in their Group and if Liverpool were also to top their Group could currently only be drawn against Besiktas, Barca or PSG and if Chelsea were to top their Group which won’t be easy with the last game being v Atletico who are fighting to stay in the competition then currently Chelsea could be drawn against Juve, Bayern or Real.
Besiktas to one side there isn’t a great deal of difference there but whoever you draw in the Round of 16 will be a tough team it’s the nature of the competition.
I suspect the final CL games in respect of the forthcoming derby clash with United favours City because City can field a scratch side ahead of the Derby whilst United will probably go with a full to almost full side in order to win the Group and try and avoid the likes of PSG and Barca.
I’m just pleased to see Chelsea get through they won’t win it but it would be nice to go a bit further.23rd November 2017 at 8:29 am #7843

Nil, come on buddy, you need to chill out a bit bruv, just a game! 🙂
With the odds looking pretty good on all 5 teams qualifying, there’s going to be a pretty good chance on some decent match-ups in the next round and none of them are likely to be easy for anybody (accept for the team that draws Pool… 😉 ). Pity we have to wait about 3 months for the games.23rd November 2017 at 8:46 am #7844

Can anyone name an easy fixture? Banana skins, Refs decisions, either way. Missed penalties, sending off are all in the mix.
I just look at it and think the next game is important and always give the opposition 50% chance of winning at the start.Teams at the bottom rank equaly important because to be in the Premier you have to have something about you and at some stage these teams are all capable of springing a surprise.
