I could and likely will go on about the awful pile of shite that is Liverpool in that 90 minutes but look, we’ve got to offer credit to Villa, they exploited our weaknesses but even besides that, they were just really good.
I hate to knee-jerk but I’m kinda going to but also kinda not. We knew of certain issues , some more than others TBF to those others (not me). Gomez could absolutely be one of the best CBs in the PL but he just isnt right now, for whatever reason. We can speculate all we want but does it matter? We need to have a quality player in there. Then there is Adrian. He did make a few good saves and was definitely not at fault for quite a few today but he absolutely was for some. His shakiness, along with Gomez’s is what lost us the match today, let’s not beat around the bush. The high line stuff is a valid argument for sure but we managed it before, we just aren’t switched on at the back. well those 2 anyway. I don’t really have a problem with any of the others. I mean Van Dijk didnt have his best day but it was far from his worst.
The question now is what can we do about this? The club seem to have left the CB situation as is and are happy with it, or they cant afford to address it as well as they’d like and that’s fine I guess. The 2nd keeper situation though can definitely be resolved. There would surely be a large selection of keepers out there who are better than Adrian and would be ok to play number 2, for 10-15m.
The thing about being behind Alisson is that you know you will get PL games, as he tends to get injured a lot for a keeper.
I thought before that we should sign another CB but I don’t think it’s realistic, I do however now agree with those that said before that we should replace Adrian. The window isnt yet closed, so let’s get on the phone and get it done.

I dunno Nil, are we really going to start picking on Trent for not being a defender, now? It’s a bit convenient to me man. We didn’t have a problem with it while we were absolutely smashing teams, with himself and Robbo getting record breaking assists.
These days I tend to get distracted easily from matches, chatting etc etc so, maybe I missed the reason why people are focusing on him instead of others but it seems to me like in his case, people would be blaming the system rather than the player.
What we’ve also witnessed today though is a team without either Hendo or Thiago. Keita was meh and Fabinho was honestly just rubbish, as the game went on you could really see Wijnaldum getting disillusioned.
Salah had a kinda quiet game but he was there when we needed him, we missed Mane for sure. I think Firmino showed a lot of heart today too. Nobody could accuse him of not caring about the scoreline but he’s losing his ability to score goals TBH. I still think he was pretty good in the first half anyway. Jota showed promise, he needs time to settle in. His touch was kinda poor at times and let him down, I’ve heard that this is an issue he has but hopefully in time Klopp will sharpen that up and I think he will be a proper player for us.
We don’t get thrashed today if we had Alisson though, that’s what it all boils down to. A more assured keeper and maybe that defence is more focused and secure in their own minds that they can trust the man behind them.
It’s hard to take this result but I’m glad we got it before the window closes, so if Klopp and Edwards were on the fence about signing someone , they have a better glimpse of what things will be like ahead.
anyway lads, chin up, we’ll resolve this one way or the other. That or Everton will win the PL.
