Oz, City strengthened and we chose not to. I’m not going to go into that avenue of discussion again, I’ve done so too many times. Klopp might be wrong for not buying 1-2 players and Peps new lads might take time to gel. That we will have to see, they are the transfer strategies but as for City getting 1 more point than us last season because of their vast array of talent, well, it wasn’t much of an advantage now was it?
I don’t think either side will get as high a points tally as last season but we’ve shown them time and time again that we’re just as, if not more capable. Where was city’s advantage in the CL? Isn’t that when your superior squad strength really shows? Well, it didn’t.
The team with the inferior array of talent won the best tournament on the planet. It was our 2nd final in a row, City have never made 1. Where were their 100 points making sides in the CL the season before? knocked out by us 5-1 is where.
Now, while I’m saying this, in no way am I saying “WE’RE THE BEST TEAM EVER AND CITY ARE RUBBISH” but man, you’re so defeatist, it’s unreal. We’re every bit as good as City and it’s time people started accepting that fact. I just don’t get it. I mean how good do we have to get before our own fans actually rate the team? City are not invincible, shown by both ourselves and Spurs in Europe, over 2 legs. I think a 1 point margin is a pittance when being used to suggest this kind of utter dominance that you’re prophesying.

Also, we’re the only team with a 100% record so far in the PL, not them. That might eventually be meaningless but we’ve both played top 6 teams.

Jesus Mak settle down mate, we don’t agree. I just think our best chance of a trophy is in cups, like I said last season. The reason for that is the games are played over 2 legs with 1 being at Anfield, I think this format suits us. I think the depth of city suits them over a full season, it’s not that hard to comprehend really.
Yes we got close last season but city have proven they can reach these heights consistently, I doubt we can without strengthening. I can see our top players getting tired after basically no off season & I don’t think we have enough quality to cover this. What if we lose one or even worse two of our top 3 to injury, again I don’t think we have enough quality to cover this.
Wow we are undefeated after 3 games, they’ve had a draw. Remember how far ahead we were around Christmas last season.
You call it defeatist, I’ve nothing to gain from just being negative, it’s just my opinion & I’ve explained why I think city will win it again & you’ve given your reasons so let’s just wait & see.
Nine not taking a break at all mate, just not that invested any more in any sport really, hence only a post here & there.

Sean. Just for the record Ederson was lucky not to get a red card. Probably escaped as he is the keeper. I would have asked VAR to look in real time and maybe given a red.

Chucky, to be fair to Oz I don’t think he was having a “piss and a moan” he was just saying in his opinion it will be tough too finish above City due to the depth of their squad.

Although I do think City’s quality is here to stay (at least for the next few seasons), they haven’t shown that they can get 100-ish points consistently. If that’s the case then we consistently make the CL final, which we don’t.
Sean, I also agree with a lot of what Oz has said there, believe it or not. I just don’t agree on his rational that we’ll finish 20 or so points behind them. I mean we might.. but there’s zero evidence to suggest this will happen.
As for “wow we won 3 games”, we literally just beat our league winning streak record. I think it’s 12 in a row now but ya, only 3 so far this season. One of which was a top 6 club and I mean we can only win as many games as they’ll let us play. It’s a good start.
We definitely are more susceptible to problems if we’re unlucky with injuries, I won’t disagree there. You take the good with the bad and it just so happens that Klopp finds it easier to manage a smaller group of players.
We probably can’t compete across all 4 competitions again this season, so I’d have us focus on the PL and CL again. Put out a partially second string for the domestic cups and hope they do better this time around. Let’s admit that we’ve been rubbish in the cups. Is it a big deal now? Not for me because we’ve got the CL. I say now we can challenge for the title once again.

On a vaguely serious note, I would imagine it’s a bit hard for all the non-Liberools and City Boy fans on here to listen to Liberools discussing how tough it is to beat City, as everybodyn else faces the challenge of trying to catch/match both of them…
(and yes, the bloody sodding bastard Champions League Final does still tingle a bit, and not in a good way, like when you sit on your hands before….)

Micky, I leave you buggers alone on the Liberoools Mass Debaters page (although I do pop in for a read, for shits and giggles! 🙂 ), but when it spills on the more “open” threads and descends into the 100 points, look at City, blah, blah, blah territory rather than what happened over the weekend… then, cyber chum, I think it’s fair game for anybody to comment on, including comments along the lines of “blimey, not this sodding record again, where’s Nil and his NKOTB album, would rather listen to that” … 🙂
