Hope everyone’s keeping safe!
A bit of background. This site has been running now for just over 3 years. In that time, I’ve put an awful lot of time and effort into creating and maintaining the site. I’ll continue to do exactly that and have no plans to do anything drastically different any time soon.
With that said, I don’t make a penny from the site. It costs me money in upkeep, both in invested time and paying for the domain name and everything else involved in running a site.
Therefore, I’m going to be experimenting with some ad placements. Rest assured, if it starts to become overly obtrusive or annoying in any way, I’ll be taking action and removing placements straight away. Bear in mind I’ve never added ads to a site before (not that I’ve ever run a site before, mind) so don’t be surprised if things temporarily don’t look right or don’t work as expected. If so, I’ll act swiftly to fix it.
So, again to summarise:
– Any placement which feels like it gets in the way of the functionality of the site, let me know and I’ll fix it or remove it.
– Hopefully you’ll understand my reasoning. If the site can start to pay for itself at least, great. If it can even make a small profit, it can be reinvested in ads to get more users. One thing I’d love to do would be to get some proper football content creators to do some articles to drive some traffic to the site._____________________________

Sounds reasonable. TT at one point (not sure if they still do) had ads in the middle of posts, I would strongly advise not to do that.

That’s fine and understandable Ed. Ads are one of the ways in trying to generate money. We need a Superstar in Holmes to write for Articles for us 😀

Just to make you smile Ed. Noticing one of the “ADs” for Aviation Engineers/NL. I though I will have a look at this, maybe they will not notice I am 86 next week and it is. 65 yrs since I last serviced an aircraft, my tool box contained all the spanners etc plus needle and thread because some of the aircraft I worked on half fabric half metal, nevertheless I thought I could service an F=16 OK but then I had to eat a lot of Pancakes since it was based in Holland and it has taken me over two years to stop eating cream cakes. I will have to pass this one up but thanks for the opportunity!!!!!

Yeah they’re probably a bit excessive as things stand, at least on mobile. On desktop they’re not quite as bad. Will look to tone them down a bit tomorrow.

Rather than switch it off (which I’ve realised is difficult without blocking almost all the ads that appear), I’ve drastically turned down the amount of ads each visitor sees. Some will still appear in posts, unfortunately. Do keep me updated though. If it’s still really annoying, let me know and I’ll try something else.
