RIP KK. I watched you many a game peering over the wall behind the Annie and Kop goals. Crazy privelidge of 60 years wedded to the same red bird but you and Shanks lit the flame for me!

[Red Herring]

My experience is the same as Rob and Mikey where I got sucked in by Shankly’s revised team of the early 70s where so many new bright, young players had replaced the old guard from the 60s. KK was the shining light of this revamped team and idolised by the Kop for the 6 years that he was with us. What is a bit surprising is that he was never remembered as a legend and rarely featured in anybody’s ‘best XIs’. I think the reason for this is down to who replaced him in the No. 7 shirt. I went to Kenny’s debut for us in the Charity Shield vs Man Utd at Wembley and he was such an instant hit with the fans that the “Dalglish !” chant was born in his first game and a general feeling around the stadium of “Kevin who?”. So, that was it really……Kevin was taken to our hearts when he played, but rather instantly forgotten as soon as he left.

They’re great points Red. Keegan effectively replaced Roger Hunt, my first footballing hero, in my affections but, as disappointed as I was when he left, he was soon forgotten very quickly with the arrival of King Kenny (who has yet to be replaced in my affections and remains my all time favourite Liverpool player) and all of the success that quickly followed. Hopefully Keegan’s role as one of the catalysts for that success will never be forgotten.

For those who haven’t checked out the club’s official site, there’s a lovely free video tribute well worth a few minutes of anyone’s time.

Thanks for the memories, Kev. Hope you’re enjoying catching up with Shanks and all the others who would have formed a guard of honour as you marched through the Pearly Gates.

Unfortunately never seen kevin play, but was lucky enough to meet him on a few occasions. You wouldnt meet a more down to earth man if you tried! He would treat you like youre one of the lads. I was devastated to hear the news, the world is a slightly darker place with his passing. Good bless his soul and may he rest in peace.
