JM – Guess it just depends on how you choose to look at it. We weren’t going to sign Tonali, Anderson or Fernandes for £100m a pop this summer. That’s not the kind of rebuild we’re doing. We’ve obviously wanted Baleba for a long time and i think Santos is just a punt at a slightly cheaper £48m than most punts have gone for this season, notwithstanding the likes of who Sunderland and Brentford pick up etc. I’m not sure how Tielemans is “past it” but i do think the midfield is to be built around Mainoo.
I never thought we’d be investing in defenders this summer. We have 5 CB’s and adding another one just blocks the path for Heaven (19) and Yoro (20) to break through. I did think we’d pick up a left back but with Rashford staying we have a Dorgu without any real place in the squad. He seems to be a better winger but can certainly cover Shaw at left back with Mazraoui playing there for Morocco at the World Cup too.
Agree with N1xer about the deadline day, it’s just a farce driven by agents and media. It was Ait Nouri’s agent who tried to get him out of City not our idea. And Athltico were in for that Salinas lad so we walked away and they fucked up the deal for him and the other left back they wanted, at which point it was too late for us. We wanted Lewis Hall and i imagine we’ll get him next summer to replace Shaw. So why go for a shit version now?
I’m not saying its perfect! But i do believe its enough to get us into the CL places again this season. Its over to Carrick and the coaching team now to make us a decent team on the pitch. We are going to lose games, concede shit goals and have bad results against teams worse than us. But so will most other teams. That’s all part of the ride – so buckle up butter cup!!!
