We all know the squad is thin but the issue with thr midfield pair, which was present last season and again vs Newcastle, can surely be coached. Gravenberch showed in the title winning season that he can and should stay back, receive and play simple balls to those ahead of him. Szoboszlai can still get forward but needs to do much better. Rein that both back a bit.
Only one game and Iraola isn’t an idiot, I’m sure he will address this on the pitch. If not then it’s rinse and repeat from last season just with a bit more entertainment and attacking intent, we’ll still be too soft through the middle for a fast transition.
Would prefer a more dedicated defensive midfielder but that means one of Gravenberch (most likely) or Szoboszlai become a rotation option and more often benched next to MacAllister if he stays. If that happens it does ask the question why we are paying 280k for a rotation player.
