Last summer there was more than one top club sniffing around Ederson as I recall. Under Gasperini he was playing very well and was quite sought after.
However, this season should be taken with a pinch of salt. Atalanta made a proper pigs ear of replacing Gasperini who left for the Roma job, getting Ivan Juric, the guy who made a pigs ear of the Southampton job, before firing him before Christmas. A club legend in Raffaele Palladino was then appointed and performances improved.
I don’t know how Ederson will fare at United but this season should be viewed as an aberration because Atalanta, unusually, made a complete fuck up of replacing Gasperini.
