I suppose it depends on who you get on free transfer, sometimes the wages they’re after lead to problems with the rest of the squad. We certainly fell lucky with Milner and Matip.
The think what’s really important is to get back to the ‘no idiots or big time Charlies’ being recruited. At our peak a few years ago we had a squad of talented, committed players driving each other on. Milner, Henderson, Salah, Allison, VVD, Robertson, to name a few.
I remember watching Milner give Virgil a proper bollocking – we need to get back to that collective desire for quality.
