We have better players overall than last season. Our tactics/ styel/training/preparation this season are where the difference is. Might have mentioned that previously too.
The opposition are not better this season, or maybe marginally, but the style in the PL has changed. City have adapted much better than us, Arsenal are one of the lead instigators of the change. Slot hasnt managed to adapt despite the issues being there all season and very clear to see, he persists with the same thing more or less every week.
We need a DM, even more so with this more direct PL. Last year we had one, Gravenberch. Not perfect especially once everyone worked out his signature press beating move, but better than nothing. My biggest fear about this season when at the start Grav said something along the lines of “looking forwrd to playing further up the pitch this season” especially after we bought very attacking fullbacks and a creative attacking midfielder. The inbalance was clear for all to see, except for Slot.
There have been issues, Jota’s death no doubt affected the team, Diaz was sold (not that I can remember him be as good last season as people suggest, thought he was pretty inconsistent, but he should have been replaced), but that doesn’t mean they have been arrogantly dismissed.
We should have pushed on from last season and at least put up a fight defending our title. Massively missed opportunity.
