Regarding Jacquet’s price of £60m, the closest comparison I can find recently, is Dean Huijsen, aged 20, 51 senior apps, cost £50m, and already a Spain international with 6 apps.

Jacquet is the same age 20, with 38 senior apps, not an international (yet), but has started every game for Rennes this season, apart from two games where he was suspended.

So Jacquet cost £60m, which is £10m more than Huijsen, not a great amount, in my opinion – unlike the folly of Isak costing an astounding £61m more than Gyökeres.

I would compare Jacquet’s signing to that of his fellow Frenchman Ekitike, who we bought for £79m, which is slightly more expensive than the likes of other strikers/attackers,last summer, like Cunha (£63m), Gyokeres (£64m) and Mbuemo (£71m). And Ekitike has fully delivered so far, and could even exceed expectations.

Of course, no one knows how Jacquet will do at Liverpool, but at least he’s not ludicrously overpriced like Isak.

By comparison, we paid £30m for Leoni, aged only 18, and with only 17 apps in Serie A.
