Chucky, tbh I think you’re probably right and whilst I think we’ll have enough to challenge for a top 4 place under Frank and Jody we will more likely end up in the top 6 that’s not the end of the world and we’re not in a position to challenge City and Liverpool currently whilst Spurs might be

Personally given all the circumstances I think it’s a good time to press the reset at Chelsea and it’s about laying down the foundations for the future at Chelsea as Rio said have had the best Academy for a while now it’s time to give some of these great young players a chance the likes of Reece James, Tomori, Mount, Ampadu, Loftus Cheek, Hudson Odoi and Abraham can be played this season alongside Pulisic and next Summer when the bans over added too with a considerable transfer budget to spend.

It might well be a rocky ride but ultimately it might be more worthwhile.

“La Gazzetta dello Sport | Mario Pasalic have signed for Atalanta from #Chelsea for €15M. #CFC”

Marina strikes again that’s over £20m for Pasalic and Aina almost all at profit to be added to the Hazard fee for when we can spend again.

Daniel about to shake off the moths and get his wallet out?

If Spurs buy players of the calibre suggested and can hold on to what they’ve got I can see them maybe getting themselves up there alongside the likes of City and Liverpool in the title race this season.

Chucky, maybe maybe not but didn’t you say similar last season yet there were 2 Cup Finals , third place in the PL and another trophy to put in the trophy cabinet.?

Whoever is appointed to any Club it’s a risk but given the fact the transfer ban looks like it might stick Frank and Jody are an interesting option.

We’ve tried all the names and realistically who else is there who immediately jumps out maybe it’s time to give two of our own a go and given the circumstances they’ve got a great knowledge of the Club and all the young players both in the Academy and out on loan.

After all it’s worked for United.?

Nil.Liverpool went as close as they could without winning it mate. Not holding on to a 7 point lead, letting City back in again after their defeat at Newcastle and not beating a severely weakened United team at Old Trafford were the turning points in Liverpool’s title challenge.

You can talk about 11 centimetres but City fans could point to the last minute Mahrez penalty miss at Anfield etc etc there are always such incidents in a title race.

But there’s no point in dwelling on any of that now it’s over and a new Season beckons it’s all to play for for 19 teams and AFC Bournemouth currently sit top of the table.?

May the best team over the 38 games win the title.

Chill mate and as Frankie says Relax.?

We’re a small Church of many denominations and too small as the Editor has previously explained to currently have separate self sufficient Club sites.

So everything goes up on the General site and everyone can pitch in as they think fit.

There are no our own places on Footydebate and even if there were as per Teamtalk other posters post on them.

Ed, I agree it would be a massive risk appointing Frank, how often does a Guardiola type appointment work out? And the Ole situation albeit he might yet turn things around given a Summer transfer window and a pre Season should serve as a massive warning imo.

Of the runners and riders in the betting I would probably go for ten Hag, Allegri Espiriti Santo or Rafa. Despite the enormous amount of goodwill towards Frank.

However I can’t help thinking Roman might be looking to do something completely different which might point to Frank and Jody with Cech as Technical Director.

Given all the circumstances I would probably plump for ten Hag as first choice but whoever we appoint if it’s not Guardiola is a risk. ?

No matter who it is I will support them I just want to get it all done and dusted now to give whoever is appointed the best chance of a proper pre season.

I also agree with you that it’s not a foregone conclusion that City and Liverpool will dominate the PL for the next 5 or so years Liverpool came from 4th place and also ran’s to nearly winning it on the back of a £250m investment and 4 good signings. And City although dominant now have an ageing squad and problems with UEFA to deal with and history tells us that Pep won’t be there for ever and neither will Klopp be.

                                        The thoughts of Rio.?

“Rio Ferdinand reckons Frank Lampard is “perfect” for the Chelsea job — and drawn parallels with Pep Guardiola.

The current Derby County boss and Blues legend has spoken to the new Europa League champions, who are hunting a replacement for the outgoing Maurizio Sarri, and is interested in a return.

Free-agent former Juventus boss Max Allegri is also a candidate and is a far more experienced option having just steered the Italian giants to a fifth Serie A title in a row, but Ferdinand said of old team-mate Lampard: “He is the perfect choice.”

Sarri is expected to be confirmed as Allegri’s replacement at Juve later this week, but Chelsea want to have his successor in place before they announce his departure after just one season.

Lampard has just one season of management under his belt, and that was in England’s second tier, but Ferdinand said: “I will actually be surprised if they look elsewhere.

Bringing Lampard and assistant Jody Morris back to former club Chelsea looks a no-brainer to Ferdinand.
“They have tried with all these great managers. No disrespect to Allegri, he’s done unbelievable things at Juventus, but they have had Carlo Ancelotti, they have had [Antonio] Conte, Sarri, [Jose] Mourinho: all managers who have done great things – and never stuck with them.

“So are you going to continue doing that, and keep blowing money away with these managers who you have to pay up after two years? Or are you gonna go with someone who the fans are going to love to have back?”

With a two-window transfer ban looming and an unstinting commitment to young players from Lampard’s assistant and former Chelsea Academy coach Jody Morris, Ferdinand believes the Blues’ board must surely hand the job to his former club and country colleague.

“If Chelsea are going to get a ban transfer-wise, I don’t think they can look anywhere but Frank if I am honest,” he said. “He and Jody know all the kids from 16 upwards. They know what they can all do.

“Chelsea have had the best young kids in the country for a while now – Manchester City are coming around that but for a good few years Chelsea have had the best kids and none of them get in the first team. As a football club you would think they would like to change that.

“If they want to change that, there is no one but Frank. He is someone who their young players are going to look at every day and say, ‘Wow! Frank is gonna play us. He played [Chelsea loanee] Mason Mount at Derby every game when he was fit, he played [Liverpool loanee Harry] Wilson every game he was fit. He trusts kids. His first season, under mad pressure at Derby, he played all the kids. He is gonna do that with us!’

“So he invigorates not only the first team and the fans but the kids coming through. At a time when managers are scared and under pressure not to play kids, I think it will be refreshing.”

Ferdinand has been appointed the FA’s Euro 2020 ambassador with the tournament set to be shared between 12 cities across Europe for the first time. Wembley will be the venue for seven matches, including both semi-finals and the final.

While critics and some in Stamford Bridge are concerned by Lampard’s managerial ‘L’ plates, Ferdinand points to Guardiola — who’d had just a year of coaching before taking over as head coach of mighty Barcelona in 2008.

Chelsea’s six targets to replace Maurizio Sarri as board make demands for next season

Lampard has one year of lower-division management on his CV — the same as Guardiola when he got the Barcelona job.

The former Barca and Spain midfielder had been in charge of Barcelona ‘B’, steering their second string to first place in the Tercera Division Grupo 5 — part of the fourth tier of Spanish football — before succeeding Frank Rijkaard as first-team boss.

Lampard steered an ailing Derby side to the brink of promotion to the Premier League at his first time of asking, losing 2-1 in the play-off final to Aston Villa.

Ferdinand added: “People talk about experience and what-not but what experience did Pep have when he went into Barcelona’s first team? He trained the younger kids at the club.

“Would he [Lampard] wilt under the pressure when big players throw a wobbly in training? I don’t think he would. Frank knows Chelsea, he knows the players and the players will respect him.”

I don’t think any Chelsea fans are thinking Chelsea will finish above City and Liverpool next season, I doubt anyone will finish above City or Liverpool next season but that won’t last forever football is cyclical.

Maybe the strategy at Chelsea is to take more of a medium to long term view the ban will only last for a season even if it sticks and Chelsea would then have the Hazard money and what wasn’t spent this Summer to add to next Summer’s spend which would give them very significant funds to spend next Summer with a Manager with his feet already under the table and a Technical Director probably well in place by then too.

In the meantime they will have bedded in more of the exciting young players they have into the squad as we’ve seen already this season with Loftus Cheek and Hudson Odoi alongside the incoming Pulisic.

Mav, Fergie is 77 and Wenger is 69 whilst Benitez is only 59. He’s got one more big job left in him imo whether at Chelsea or somewhere else.
