😀 Goal Number 10 up for grabs. I’d honestly like it to be scored for the sake of it! 😀

Opens to interpretation from observation of a fan or anyone else for that matter:
Was Oliver instructed or advised?
Honestly? I want the latter and that’s how it should be.
As far as encouraging transparency goes, definitely for the entire set up placed in the vicinity of the Referee for him to refer to – on ‘Ground Floor’ 😀 🙂 😉

V A R is in essence Video Assisted Referee. It’s very easy in a moment to get ourselves in knots, but revisit last night’s incident:
Oliver did not stop play.
Nature was allowed to take it’s course and one ‘incident’ followed another, quickly. Communication transmitted as input.
I would like to think The Ref Michael Oliver HAS the ultimate authority to make the call. That’s my perception of the whole ideology.
I truly hope VAR is NOT in place to undermine the duties of both the Ref and the Lines-people, otherwise, there’s conflict galore. If anything, there’s collaboration.
It’s there in place to support and being smart in how it extracts video footage with accuracy as one would see either from Real Time or the Camera Angles shown by Television Replays.

What’s struck me from seeing Man City’s line up compared to our own position doesn’t as such spell a million miles, but this:
1) Just a little more overall in numbers as far as Senior players go to cover all positions
2) Familarity; players that have featured more as a unit and in the starting 11.
3) A good overall mix. De Bryne in and even in defence, there’s Kyle Walker. It’s not a compilation full of not so much strangers, but players that haven’t already shown their faces in the ‘main 11’.
Anyway, slight tangent from an observation and Man City at the mo are a goal up.

Chucky, get your example ‘re precision engineering mate. Like with Aerospace, there is no room for mistakes.
I don’t think matters helped yesterday with Saari having to show officials a different interpretation from another Camera angle.
VAR is used to be nothing but accurate yet so far, it’s just adding to our existing challenges.
These calls too mate are fine margins but impact the outcome of the result.?

Hawkeye or birds eye has to be essential to VAR.
Regarding goal line, if they are going to be pedantic or clinical on every millimetre then those while lines/markings have to be dead on as with positioning of goal frames.
A disservice and injustice when from the human eye, one can see from one camera angle the ball in the goal mouth only for it to be ruled out by millimetres.

My thoughts would be to judge each footage from at least 5 different Cameras and tot up the consistencies.

Thanks Alfie.
Fully get you mate. We’ve been calling for VT for years, but then I’d worry about the inaccuracies. Wonder too what that linesman was thinking and Michael Oliver. These guys have to co-operate and be accommodating to the possibility that their call may be overruled.
It’s this soon becomes a common occurrence, then they’ll no doubt be question marks.

Yeah, agree with all of that Hightown.
You only have to look at Man City and how much of a difference it makes to them when they have Kompany and Silva in the first 11. Kompany’s a massive presence filled with leadership and experience.
They missed Mendy and De Bryne, and players like Zinchenko need to be surrounded by experience.
Our ‘2nd 11’ didn’t turn up, so who do the kids turn to? If they’re going to get mardy about not being selected in the first team, then maybe Liverpool isn’t their long term future and they should start looking elsewhere.
Collectively to make it work and be successful, we have to pull together and it’s no good leaving it all to Milner.

To take a back seat and assess the bigger picture, this is one of the reasons why big investment is needed in brining top quality players to occupy different playing positions and to be competitive and consistent.
A juggling act for Klopp as far as the squad goes and outlining employee that they have a part to play.
For reasons, I’ve slated plenty of times down the years Mignolet, but if Allison was to be injured, then who do we turn to? And that’s why too Moreno has stayed on our books, although you would by now in the same breath, these guys would either be sold off or their playing contracts terminated.
But no. Other players have been loaned, there are injuries or have been injuries and based on previous experience and our current position in the League, Klopp had to approach last night with ultra air of caution – kids thrown in as a result.
It makes me scratch my head why we played like strangers at times and with nervousness too.
Man City’s ‘B’ team seem to be more fined tuned and better quality. This is an area collectively the club must work on.
Long-term, players like Markovic, Moreno, and Mignolet, and Sturridge too should be moved on and we must place better emphasis in giving our younger players more time in developing them like Gomez and TAA who genuinely have established themselves.

Still plenty of recovery time now. Just hope January doesn’t turn out to be an Achilles heel for us ?♂️

Although not an excuse as such, could have done with one these games at Anfield.
Another away game and Brighton will be tough.
Not many teams have won at the Amex.
I didn’t realise also that last night, Fabinho was classed as a centre back for us – maybe I’m wrong. ??

I’m happy on the whole for players to be rested, but I felt Klopp tonight over did it.
Naturally with pre-season on top, we play in excess of 50 Top Flight Competitive games.
But if you take and example from the 90s and Man United, although Fergie threw kids in, he’d keep at least a little bit of the spine and blend the selection with figureheads or experience like a Bruce or a Irwin.
Maybe out of Allison and Van Dijk, one if not two of these guys should have featured. Mignolet is Mignolet and will never excel to anything better whilst he’s still on our books.
Who have these kids on the pitch as far as the defence good have to look up to or lean on for support? James Milner can’t do it all on his own, and Keita himself of late is showing he needs support.
Sturridge and Origi are no newbies and they really should be doing more to fight for their place. Okay Origi hit the back of the net, but he doesn’t generally offer or pose a threat.
How can all these players be rested? Henderson, Lallana? Ideally this should have been a game for Oxlaid but he’s still on recovery. A lot of our defenders injured too. Rarely I’m critical of Klopp, but I have to say to a degree, he’s at fault with his team selection and has evidently tonight, paid the price.

That free-kick by Shaqiri almost mirrored John Barnes’ against Portsmouth – needed a Ronnie Whelan to tap that in, ha!

That summarizer in the commentary box sounded like Danny Mills and if it is him, he really does not anything positive to say about Liverpool.
