Perez said last night that they want to be up and running for this Autumn. Pretty much means last night and tonight’s PL games are completely pointless as both Chelsea and Liverpool walk into the ESL regardless.
If this happens, assuming the PL carries on as normal, there’s going to be something missing from the league when CL qualification is no longer a thing. Been some dramatic finales for those last spots over the years and this year looked no different…

What was Klopp having a go at Neville for last night? Didn’t understand their disagreement at all. Thought they were on the same page re all this. Neville has spoken so much sense about all this and with so much passion.
The big clubs are rightly being called out for their greed and disregard for the “legacy fans”. Klopp is choosing the wrong target for his anger by having a go at Neville.

How on earth does Rafa keep getting linked with big jobs? If they didn’t like Jose’s defensive tactics, I can’t see them taking to Rafa’s either!
Howe seems like the easy appointment. I suspect he’ll try for Nagelsmann/Rodgers and potentially settle on Howe.

Speaking about the proposal for the European Super League, Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin said: “I cannot stress more strongly how everyone is united against this disgraceful, self-serving proposals, fuelled by greed above all else.
“We are all united against this nonsense of a project. Cynical plan, completely against what football should be. We cannot and will not allow that to change.
“Players who will play in the teams that might play in the closed league will be banned from the World Cup and Euros.
“We urge everyone to stand tall with us as we do everything in our power to ensure this never ends up in fruition.”
This could all get very ugly. Here’s hoping the Euros aren’t ruined by all this amongst lots of other things.

I’m struggling to pick an alternative team in the event this does go through. Thinking I might have to go foreign. Thinking maybe Ajax.

I was completely wrong about Mourinho Sean. I genuinely thought he’d do what no Spurs manager has done for a long, long time and win some trophies. In fairness, he might well have done that this weekend but we’ll never know.
As for Arteta, I think it shows how far Arsenal have fallen as a club, even compared to Spurs, when they seem content with him. They have been dreadful under Arteta but they just seem happy to be in the PL at the moment. Zero ambition and it’s sad to see.

I think the only way a PL could survive without the big 6 would be a huge revamp, maybe a British Premier League with Scottish sides brought into the equation. Survive is probably the wrong word as it would of course live on without this. Thrive is probably a better word.

I’m not sure the other PL clubs will love the fact they’ll no longer be getting a share of such a huge TV deal Steve. The TV deal for the PL minus the big 6 will be a tiny portion of what it is today.

Further to my point about the traditional fans and how I think our opinions, whilst loud and clear, will count for little:
According to source, some of those involved in ESL call traditional supporters of clubs βlegacy fansβ while they are focused instead on the βfans of the futureβ who want superstar names
*ESL insists modelling shows solidarity payments will be boosted Β£10bn Euros over 23 seasons)— Dan Roan (@danroan) April 19, 2021
Legacy fans!!!

A Footydebate first. Something we all unequivocally agree on.
P.S. Great to see you back Chucky. Hope all is well despite the difficult season at your club.

I’m really excited about watching the closing stages of the CL every single year. I’m not going to lie. I love watching the best go up against each other.
However, with the ESL, they’re missing the point. What’s great isn’t the fact that 2 historically huge European clubs are playing each other per se but the fact that the best sides in their respective leagues are coming face to face at a time when they are performing well in their own league. Take Utd vs AC Milan in the Europa League recently. Yes, 2 huge sides with tons of history and trophies. Was it entertaining simply because of that? No, if I wasn’t a Utd fan, I’d much rather have watched City vs PSG. 2 sides flying in their own leagues. Neither have the history or trophies/prestige (call it what you will) that Utd/Milan have but they’re simply better sides at this moment in time.
This format deprives us of that, simply ensuring we watch the same sides face off every week without any fear for the consequences of underperforming.

So JP Morgan have admitted they will be financing this new league. The Americanisation of
footballsoccer is upon us. I can’t help but feel that football, as we know it today, will look very different in a few years with different rules, more goals, bigger wages, more money. I also can’t help but feel the discontent/disgust coming from traditional football fans will mean nothing while ever there is a generation of football fans that won’t care and will happily tune in to Inter Miami vs Real Madrid when the scope widens even further to global “franchises”._____________________________

No I agree that they should do that Pagan. I just don’t for a minute think they have the balls to do it.

Surely the threat of expulsion from domestic leagues and International competition (for the players) is enough to stop this ever getting off the ground. The question is how realistic that threat is. I suspect the PL would find it extremely difficult to carry through the threat and see the biggest 6 sides drop out.

Congrats to the Chelsea lads for yesterday. Did what they needed to do. That’s all that matters.
Tell you what. I can’t stand Neymar but he was phenomenal last night. A throwback to the kind of player you rarely see these days. I really hope that kind of silky Samba style footballer doesn’t die out from the game.
