I saw Chelsea linked with Xavi this morning and no news of any club seriously linked to Iraola, which is odd given his PL experience and relative success. Could it be that he’s already agreed to take over at a club but it hasn’t been announced yet? Us hopefully.

JM, mate I am certain the only lesson the club took from the ole knee jerk contract or the ETH knee jerk none sacking after the FA Cup wins is that they don’t want to appear not to have thought this out through properly. it’s just about appearances. they will give the job to Carrick, mark my words. the only one who, if he became available would oust that appointment is Southgate. Welcome to Manchester United.

I completely agree with both posts … The job is Carrick’s they just biding time to make the announcement so it doesn’t seem like a rushed decision but a well thought out plan..

I read reports that Iraola had agreed terms with a Spanish club, believed to be Athletic Club, but they’ve appointed a new coach for next season so who knows what the story is with him.

Looking like we’ll both have the same ‘gaffers’ next season. In fact, I’d put money on it.

It was always gona be Carrick … the board appointing anyone else would have required them actually using their combined IQ which they surely cannot do.

Here’s hoping Carrick does at least keep us in the top8 before December next season or it’s back to square one again

Its actually mad to read that before we hired Carrick we had won just 3 games from the previous 13!!
3 games?!!! For him to come in and win 10, draw 2 of the next 15 games is actually pretty outrageous. I don’t think they ever planned to give him the job but he’s basically forced them with the results he’s achieved. There are obvious question marks around him as a manager, the performances haven’t been great overall, and it could all fall apart by Christmas.
But taking the team from where it was to achieve the results they have is an incredible performance.

People will say its because they are only playing once a week but firstly, so are Brighton and Bournemouth and neither of them are 3rd! And secondly, there were several games recently where you could see that only playing once a week had taken a huge amount of match sharpness away from the players.
So its all about how you choose to look at it. If you wish to denigrate what Carrick has achieved then yeah, talk about only playing once a week and how performances haven’t been amazing. But for the more discerning amongst us what Carrick has done with the team from where they were is pretty amazing.
And for that alone he deserves the job.

                          For about 12-18 months!!
                          😉

Fuck me happy, you want it both ways. Other teams have only been playing once a week but aren’t third, but then only playing once a week affected our sharpness. You want it both ways ffs. Personally, my take is that we’ve had a great run of results with Carrick, indisputable, but in terms of performance we’ve been only marginally better than previously and I’ve seen no real style of play or pattern, formation (other than the obvious flat back four) or anything else that I can attribute to Carrick. If anything I’d say the dominant influence has been that of Steve Holland, so maybe he’s the man for the job? Still Iraola for me but, alas, it won’t be.

@jm i couldn’t have said it better. So now @Happy is comparing us to Brighton and Bournemouth who also only play once a week🤣🤣. Also no one is disputing what Carrick has achieved but when you watch the team play what’s that discernible pattern or tactic you can point out and then attribute it to Carrick. If Carrick was coaching another team Happy would have been the first to break down exactly why he wouldn’t be a good fit.

We are MAN UTD ffs !!! Not Chelsea not Spurs worst of all not Brighton or Bournemouth.

Dee – It was just a comparison mate, that’s all. If its so easy to win football matches only playing once a week why isn’t happening more with teams like Brighton and Bournemouth. I get that we shouldn’t be comparing ourselves to tin pot clubs like those but they’re the highest up of teams playing once a week at the moment. If we look back to when Arsenal had no European football for an entire season they finished 5th.

JM – Not sure what you mean. It’s the same point. Firstly, winning football matches because you’re only playing once a week isn’t a thing because no one else has matched Carrick’s record since he took over. Secondly, i actually think we’d be sharper playing twice a week at times. So its not wanting it both ways, it’s the same point.

Fair points Happy … on the topic of sharpness from playing 2games a week you also have to consider the physical aspect of it and of the current crop of players only Bruno, Dalot, Cunha and Sesko that i am sure their bodies can handle it while giving the same level of output.

Happy, you’re saying we’ve only been playing one game a week and we’re third, unlike Brighton and Bournemouth who’ve been playing once a week (although both have probably had longer cup runs than us) and aren’t third – no shit Sherlock. But then you say that we’ve not been as sharp as we could have been and it’s due to us only playing once a week. So are you saying that if we’d played more than one game a week we’d have been sharper but lower than third or sharper and higher than third? I just don’t get the point you were, er, trying to make. And I don’t know whether you’ve watched much of those other one game a week teams like Bournemouth mate, but I have, and they’ve looked a fuck sight sharper than us every time I’ve watched them.

Was just saying playing once a week doesn’t necessarily mean it’s easier to win games of football. I think we’d have been sharper playing more often, especially seeing how we arrived at that Leeds game. We looked like we were at the beginning of pre season.

Bournemouth have won 13 games of football all season by the way.

so we have officially got Carrick and Chelsea I believe had got Alonso. well, I really hope things work out for us, I really do. but I think I brilliant manager that just needed the right backing (cough, cough, Madrid) was right there and I we should have gone all out for him. listen, Enrique was going nowhere and for good reason, and as for fabergas, the boy has a percentage of the club so why would he cripple his own net worth by taking off? so Xabi was one of only a few brilliant managers that were gettable. now, he might have told us to fuck off, given we are united, but he might have not, just like fabergas said he would consider coaching Madrid. let’s remember he wrestled the title from Bayern’s grip. that’s the most impressive thing you can do in any of the top five leagues.
