A good article which sums up the point I am making.
United are the second best team in England but if you compare their starting XI with title winning teams and the closest challengers in the late 1990’s and 2000’s, they’re nowhere near as good.
In the 2001-02 season, for example, United finished third in the league and were 10 points behind champions Arsenal. Yet David de Gea is probably the only current United player who would get in that first team in place of Fabien Barthez.

I don’t think he is being bias in that article. His opinion is measured between praising City and giving his say on the quality of the PL today. He is not undermining City, they can only beat what is in front of them. It goes along with the point I am making, to label this City side a true great they need to play against truly great teams with world class players in the side like the great Arsenal, Chelsea and United sides did. Unfortunately that is a area the PL is lacking outside of City. The only player I would consider world class outside of this City side is Hazard.
I remember the same was said about Barcelona in 2009, when people questioned their quality because of the poor quality of La Liga. They went on to beat a Chelsea side full of quality players, a little lucky considering the ref for that game and a United side that had Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney in it in the final.
Obviously Citys true test will come when they play the likes of Bayern, Barcelona, PSG because no other PL side come close to the quality of those sides.

City are undoubtedly the best around in the UK at the moment (even if they needed a twelfth man to help them beat Liverpool! 🙂
People are a bit quick with the praise though – lets see how the season pans out first and if they win anything. Its tiresome listening to City commentators holding the microphone with one hand and their other hand in their underpants!

Wow, my opinion on this is the world class banner gets thrown aroun too easily. You seriously can not say they are world class without adding Silva and DeBruyne, impossibly, you can’t say Salah without adding Sane and Sterling and you can’t possibly say Kane without adding Aguero
Out if the lot I’d say Silva, Sanchez, DDG, DeBruyne and Hazard are WC the rest are just damn good

The opinion on City seems to be split between probably one of the best sides we’ve seen in the PL, they’re good but not as good as a number of United teams,Jose’s first Chelsea team and the Arsenal invincibles and City are good but they’ve won nothing yet and under Pep that’s currently true.
As I said yesterday beauty is always in the eye of the beholder and worryingly for the rest of us if Guardiola signs a new contract I think the first opinion of City will be proved correct and we’ll all be chasing them for the next few years. Cheers 999

I agree not Sane and Sterling yet, equally I say no to Coutinho and Salah, no chance, not yet, Hazard is borderline because he is erratic as well
Like I said Mac the World Class banner gets thrown around too easily and to be truly world class you have to be at the top of yr game and to stand out from the crowd for years not 6 months or be top scorer for 1 year, it don’t work like that. Makes you really think how many truly world class players the prem actually has
Here’s some controversy guys, DDG wouldn’t displace Ederson in the City side because Edersons footwork and passing is truly exceptional, much better than DDG and in Peps system Ederson is the better option??? Ooooo that’s one to discuss

All I would like to add to this debate is. Great sides are judged on their success and this side havent won anything as yet. However as a caveat you could say and many pundits have ! The style of football they are playing is more exciting and attacking than anything that has been seen before in the PL. That’s what people are confusing the issue with. Jim
