12th February 2026 at 9:24 am #239290Yep. 13 points from a possible 15 is an amazing return. But the real work starts now doesn’t it. 12 games to go to seal a return to CL football and therefore a springboard to return to competing for the biggest trophies.

12th February 2026 at 11:13 am #239296it is an amazing return, happy. but out of the 5, 2 are poor performances. the lack of energy against fulham and West Ham reeks. we definitely did not deserve to win tonight so don’t know how you figured that. we were slow and sloppy. you have to start sesko when the opposition is playing on the counter. how everyone could see that and Carrick waited forever to make the change, especially considering how ineffective mbeumo and particularly cunha were tonight will do his chances of landing the job permanently significant damage. or at least it should.

12th February 2026 at 12:47 pm #239311Yep, agreed Bob – stodgy performances the last couple. But we can’t blow every team away with goals and energy every week. Particularly the effort that was put into the wins over Arsenal and City were immense. I did think we were unlucky against the hammers because we dominated the ball (65% possession) and we had the better of the big opportunities. Even though it was the worst performance under Carrick in terms of that cutting edge energy. Like i said i think this 2 week break now is a great opportunity to restore that energy.

12th February 2026 at 1:09 pm #239317Big fight to get CL with scousers and chelsea. Not sure i fancy us at all. Looking at fixtures, picking up 11 out of the next possible 15 points would be a good return and probably needed. We got the forward line completely wrong on Tuesday. Cunha in a free role all over the pitch does not work. He could do with a stint on bench for Sesko against Everton.

12th February 2026 at 1:17 pm #239319@Happy quit saying we were unlucky against the Hammers we only had 1shot on target prior to Seskoโs introduction.. Liverpool are starting to pick up results and are playing well, Chelsea are scoring goals and you saying the players used up lots of energy against City nd Arsenal is just bollocks when you factor in the fact that they have been playing one game a week all season as opposed to Arsenal and Man City who play Champions league and other cup competitions yet their players can still deliver equally the same amount of energy nd intensity.

12th February 2026 at 4:31 pm #239345Jm 1502 fair enough, I didnโt realise that was why.
On a separate note, has anyone watched the Netflix documentary called Miracle of Ice hockey 1980s Lake Placid. Well worth a watch. One of the biggest take out from it is how the coach Herb Brookโs absolutely canned them physically and emotionally. He never attempted to be the playerโs friend etc. At the time they all hated him! 45 years later they understood what he was doing. Todayโs pre-Madonnaโs could learn a thing or two. You get now where if you canโt be arsed to put the hard yards in training.
He had some phrases which apply to footballers today. โ youโve got million dollar legs but a nickel brainโ
Anyway rant over but I recommend watching it_____________________________

12th February 2026 at 5:43 pm #239347There’s a really good movie on it as well with Kurt Russell, called Miracle. You could get away with that back then, it was a different time and people had a different mentality. If you tried to do that to a group of 21-22 year olds now, you’d probably end up in prison.

12th February 2026 at 9:12 pm #239351if you give players a talking to now they’ll be straight onto their agent. they don’t want it as much as players used to. there is no backbone or character to players bar a few exceptions

13th February 2026 at 5:51 am #239366Agree N1xer, I said before the West Ham game we wouldnโt finish top four. The scousers have got some piss easy games coming up and Chelsea will manage to get points from somewhere, although they have Arsenal and Villa away. But when I think of us going to Chelsea, Newcastle, Sunderland, Everton and Bournemouth, I just see every one as a struggle. And we just donโt have the ability to win dirty.

13th February 2026 at 7:13 am #239368Jm .. we can win and play dirty but these cunts only play with absolute grit when the whole world writes them off hence why thereโs no consistency in their performances.

13th February 2026 at 7:45 am #239369The fight for ECL football will go right to the last game, just like it did last season, and every team will continue to drop unexpected points, especially once the European fixtures kick in again. From our perspective I think we need to somehow get to a total of around 68 points which equates to 7 wins and 2 draws from 12 fixtures, and then see where that takes us with the 3 games versus Villa and Liverpool at home and Chelsea away in particular being absolutely massive.

13th February 2026 at 9:42 am #239372@blacky, agreed it will go down to the wire. In theory, we should be best placed to take one of the slots. We’re out of every other competition and will have a week between games, if not more in some cases. We should be fitter and fresher than anyone else who’s up against us.

13th February 2026 at 11:26 am #239380Call me crazy, but I don’t think we’re ready for CL football yet and would be better off getting Europa League and making a good run in the competition there (maybe / hopefully winning it).
Playing in the CL and getting owned by the top European clubs and scraping some draws and the odd win against the mediocre sides and getting knocked out in the qualifying rounds for Round 2 might not be the best for morale.

13th February 2026 at 11:41 am #239381I think Champions League football will actually galvanise whatever players we’re keeping on, it will bring in extra revenue. On top of that, it will make it easier to attract players to the club, even if they’re younger and not so-called ‘galacticos’. In order for our re-build or re-set, or whatever you want to call it, to be successful and quicker, then we need to be in the Champions League.

13th February 2026 at 1:35 pm #239384Yeah i agree that we need Champions League football to drag us back to Champions League Football levels. And if we’re honest the likes of Spurs and Newcastle have done alright in the competition this year so we probably would have as well. And it generates a fuck load of money that we can reinvest into the team.
