So, who’s looking forward to it?
Got to say I am, have a feeling it’s going to be a bit boring to start like the normal world cup, a lot of miss-matched games with the European/South American teams running away with it (if they play their full strength sides of course!) and it will only get juicy when the last round of group games and knock-out rounds get going…
No idea who might win it, mind you… as long as it isn’t the Jammy Todgers… π

10th June 2025 at 7:54 am #219773No interest whatsoever and think it really shouldn’t exist, even if my team were in it.
Just hope it means Chelsea and City start the new season knackered.

10th June 2025 at 8:36 am #219774Well, Chelseas with their 6,341 players have no excuses.. π

10th June 2025 at 8:58 am #219775Yeh if Liverpool were in it, Iβd be thinking it was the last thing we needed. The players need a break. If you go through to the final that takes you to 13th July and then youβre into preseason. Has the club World Cup ever been that prestigious really? The prize money may prove tempting to the teams though.

10th June 2025 at 9:36 am #219777Part of me does think it’s better than the old “version”, at least it does have a bunch of teams rather than the 6 or 7 the old system had… and not much else on the box… π
Totally agree about player burnout… be interesting to see how the 115 and Jammy Todgers start the season, can see a lot of changes/rotations for the first few weeks… good for those playing them in the Prem!!
I reckong it’s like the Charity Shield or Super Cup… it only counts if you’re in it…

10th June 2025 at 4:24 pm #219810Not so much related to this thread, but having watched the final the other night, what struck apart from many players combined of Portugal and Spain affiliated with the Prem, the quality/standard and class not the same as what we were seeing even 10 years ago. And for a 40 year old hitting the net from real close range is definitely saying something!!

10th June 2025 at 6:44 pm #219826Whoever wins it is properly going to milk the World Champion tag. I think it will be like the Nations League where absolutely nobody is arsed about going out of it but the win will be celebrated as though theyβve won the CL. Will I watch it? Probably the latter stages but more for the lack of anything else on than anything.

10th June 2025 at 11:27 pm #219864I didn’t realise this was a full-blown tournament. The players at this rate will be beyond burnt out. Definitely glad our lot are not in this. Once we reach July, there’s only a few weeks till pre-season and that’s the time when you want to regain your fitness and sharpness ready for August.

11th June 2025 at 10:58 am #219887Was looking into the Conmebol World Cup Qualifiers, Argentina-Columbia and what a solo goal from Luis Diaz. WOW!!

11th June 2025 at 1:25 pm #219896Yeah, I bet those buggers are all crying in their multi-million dollar mansions wishing they had a shitty 9-5 job like mine where it would take most of them about 6 years to make what they make in a week now (if they’re on supposed Harry Kane money!)
Call an abulance, my heart is bleeding… π π π

A lot of them are tone def to the working class as well as our Politicians!

12th June 2025 at 5:53 am #219940Joking aside, it is too much football, quantity over quality means quality will always suffer…
(and those poor babies having to travel the world first class to kick a ball about!)
My biggest issue is why America? And the “proper” World Cup next year!!
At least give it to a proper “Footballing” nation…. but money talks!
(Should have held it in London with it’s 15 or so stadiums, now, that would be fun)

12th June 2025 at 8:20 am #219941Yup, agreed wholeheartedly. Where there’s a commercial opportunity, they’ll grab it.
I noticed this with Cricket decades ago with T-20 and the direction it was heading. I don’t personally mind it, but prefer the old fashion 5 day test matches.
Pre-season for Footie will start in just over a month. I wouldn’t be surprised if players started picking up injuries in the build up to the next campaign.

12th June 2025 at 1:02 pm #219942Bloody hell, just read an article on the Guardian, suggesting they’re (FIFA!) are already considering expanding this new club world cup, which hasn’t even kicked off yet, from 32 to 48 teams in time for the 2029 editon…
And I thought Buffy on a Friday night was shameless (especially 1.5 snakebites!)…

15th June 2025 at 8:06 pm #220108Don’t even have it on Finnish TV.. which is a shame, not bothered now but when the knock-outs start, could be interesting….
