Valid notes Ginger. I think the situation (to me which may not be fact) isn’t helped by their potential interest in Wissa who also is in the same boat as Isak, both want to leave and training away from the first team awaiting the next ‘chess move.’
I think EITHER we give them a massive stack of cash up front (60 or 70m) plus another chunk next season (plus add-ons of course!) and then Newcastle get who they want OR it’ll be a waiting game until Newcastle move first, sign a forward and then strike a (more traditional) deal with us.

I’m not sure about that and wouldn’t be happy with that either.
I think we need another wide attacker (left) if last season is anything to go by.
Understandably there will be changes this coming season but Slot liked to rest/rotate his wide attackers particularly left hand side.
Also have to factor in the amount of games to be played if we want to go deep in all comps._____________________________

I just think we’ll utilise Rio, Ekitike and Gakpo for Diaz’s spot (Wirtz often drifts left too), Ekitike/Isak as the 9, Mo, Frimpong, Elliott (if he stays) for the right.
Ideally, yes, another wide attacker in and we may go for one but my hunch is Isak and Guehi and we’re closing the door from a signings standpoint.

As I’ve said previously we went from 6 attackers (well 5 + 1) to potentially 4 + 1 with that 1 being a 16yr old boy.
Wirtz was brought in for big money and he himself says he was sold on Slots tactical plans. I don’t see us spending that kinda money and shifting about the place or him buying into it.

I agree with Rob. I think we looked at Fofana but the emergence of Rio in preseason has put a stop to that as it would hinder his development. He will get a few minutes, but Gakpo and Ekitike will be the main men for the LW.
Regarading Wirtz, I do not think anyone expects him to play left wing, but I’ve explained previously he can take that spot in the line up but play centrally/left of centre as a no 10. Salah plays next to him or alongside the no 9, width provided by the full backs.
Slot has many options this season and I expect our formation to be more fluid both game to game and within the match itself. Wirtz provides many solutions.
Chiesa hasn’t gone yet, not convinced he will. Interest in Italy is all well and good, but will they stummp up the cash or look for a loan which I am sure we will reject.

In agreement Ginger and if we move Nunez on then we must get another attacking player in (preferable a lefty to support Gakpo) which allows Rio to continue his development. What would be REALLY handy is one that can play right forward as well (AFCON etc).
Rodrygo fits the bill perfectly for me but…..he’ll wanna start and so will Gakpo and Mo!

Exactly Threeps. With us spending boat loads I think the club may just be happy at getting Isak in and then be content up top from there. Sticking Sterling in at a young age (17) worked for us 13 or so years ago and it may just work for us with Rio.
It’s not as tho we ever struggle for goals. We now have a mid with Mac and Szobo who will also chip in with goals (something I’ve championed since we jettisoned the Gini, Fab and Hendo days who all helped in the scoring dept.) plus add the the full backs goal contributions too. We’re OK.
If Nunez goes we ‘may’ get another wide forward in or we may not. Rodrygo would be the bomb tho.
Many thought it wild that we’d go and get BOTH Ekitike AND Isak and now that’s looking very likely so it wouldn’t surprise me if we got Isak and Guehi and then shut up shot regarding incomings.

Yep, still have Chiesa but with most Italian teams not even having enough moolah to buy a sandwich, who knows, he may just be OK with staying and I’ll be too (as long as he stays available).

I’m presuming the liklihood of Chiesa and Nunez leaving and Isak arriving.
That leaves us with Gakpo, Salah, Ekitike and Isak to cover 3 positions.
An injury to one (plus Salah away for at least a month mid season) leaves us very short to be playing 3 games a week.
We say what happened in the cup final and v PSG when we looked very leggy.
It’s not enough in my opinion.
Rio may very well get games in domestic cup and mins off the bench in CL and Prem but he’s there yet to be playing week in week out._____________________________

Agree Rob that Rodrygo fits the bill.
Gakpo, Diaz and Salah all wanted to start too and we made that work.
If we finished the window with the forward options of Isak, Ekiteke, Salah, Gakpo and Rodyrgo with Rio getting mins as the 6th choice plus Guehi in centreback I’ll be extremely happy!_____________________________
