@JumpersForGoalposts – yep fully agree mate; which is why I can’t understand why we keep trying to spend big money on a few players rather than trying to unearth young gems and rebuilding the squad from scratch. Imagine we signed 7 or 8 players who are between the ages of 18 and 21 for 200m; that’s an average of 25m per player. Could have bought Mastantuono and Conceicao (two definite superstars for the future) instead of Mbeumo and avoid the issue of where to play Amad as just an example.
God only knows how the world will laugh at us if Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko all go 007 after spending 200m on them!

Mastantuono only wanted Madrid, we could have offered him Saudi-level wages, £200m over four years and he still wouldn’t have come. We can’t win as a club. We buy big, they’re shit, we buy proven, they’re shit, we buy young players, they’re shit. We can’t seem to win at the moment. Our scouts seem to do their job because every time one of them leaves we get interviews saying such and such a player was recommended and our advice was ignored. We could have gotten Haaland from Molde, didn’t bother, could have gotten Caicedo direct from South America, didn’t bother. The decision making at the club since Fergie left has been dire, it happens when you have one person who has been so influential and so successful, there’s a massive power vaccuum and, being honest, I don’t think it’s been adequately filled by one or a number of people. I don’t know if INEOS are changing it in the right way, the fact that they’re trying is encouraging but change seems to be slow even when they seem to be taking a meat cleaver to things.
I know I have negative things to say about Fergie but I won’t and don’t belittle his achievements, he had a massive impact on the club in his time, changed the landscape of English football. His legacy has been tarnished by the Glazers but that doesn’t take away from all the silverware._____________________________

Sympathy – The club are buying young players though. I think they’ve stepped it up since Ineos took over but a quick google search shows the last couple of years the likes of Carreras, Kone, Leon, Heaven, Obi, Enzo Kana-Biyik, Harley Emsden James?!
But like i said before we can’t offer the same pathway as Brighton, for example, can. Dorgu is young too as is Yoro, i know they cost considerable money but the plan seems to be pretty clear that we’re going for youth._____________________________

@killyboye – I’d argue that our best signings recently (or, at least, the only ones with decent value) have been young players: Yoro, Amad and Dorgu. Yoro we signed ahead of Real Madrid even though they wanted him too… I do think that, if we offered Mastantuono first team football and a decent route to progress his career (like we did Yoro) then he would have come.
@Happyhurling – the players you quoted are barely even in the squad, let alone in the first team. And yes you mentioned that we can’t give them the opportunities like Brighton, but I don’t agree at all mate: why can’t we give young players a chance, especially given our senior players fail week in week out? Would you not prefer us giving players like Kone and Mainoo a shot in midfield ahead of Casemiro who has failed constantly? How about someone like Leon a shot at LWB and Dorgu at RWB instead of Dalot who has been a total trainwreck for years? You just have to look at Ten Hag not giving Amad a shot and then Amorim giving him a shot afterwards to see that youth is sometimes (most of the time?) the right way to go._____________________________

Whether Amorim goes or stays, we need to continue clearing out and focus on bringing in two CBs, given that I’m assuming the Lammens deal is almost done. And top of the clear out list should be Bruno and I’d take anything over 50 million for him. They keep talking about getting wages off the bill, well Bruno is certainly stealing a living now. He’s been brilliant for us for most of his stay, but the last 18 months have seen a steep decline. Wake the fuck up Board, and for once sell some fucker while you can get good money for them.

I haven’t got a clue where we go next but for sure we simply have to sign a keeper before the deadline. We currently have the worst 2 keepers I have ever seen at OT. And if Lammens isn’t regarded as a no.1 we should not be paying 17m for him! Enrique is the only manager out there I can think of who just might be the right guy but we don’t have a hope in hell that PSG would let him go. I doubt he would touch us with a barge pole anyway!

I can’t understand how Sancho isn’t gone yet. He’ll be gone on a free next season anyway so if he doesn’t leave soon we’ll just get stuck paying his wages while he rots in the reserves. Let him leave for nothing and offer to pay the difference in his wages up until the end of his contract.
