It’s a funny market. Bayern definitely overpaid for Diaz. Chelsea got lucky selling Felix to the Saudis and if Fulham take Sterling off their hands, that’ll be a right get out of jail card

Not sure if Chelsea got lucky with Felix, or if they are just lucky their ownership model allows for owners to stay hidden. There has long been questions over whether they have some element of Saudi ownership and whether or not that is why they can so easily offload players into that market.

Homer – I think it’s more to do with how we’re structuring the payments for the deals isn’t it? We don’t have a huge budget this year but we’re splitting the payments over 3 or 4 instalments. Thus increasing our spending power. Any deal for Sesko would have to be with similar a payment structure.
Alfie – I’m not sure why the media are hailing the Felix deal as some sort of amazing win for Chelsea. They bought him for £45m and have sold him for an initial fee of £26.2m…

It’s obviously pretty complicated. Main restrictions are PSR calculations and physical cash reserves. In terms of PSR, deals can be spread over up to 5 years. Physical cash flow is what the delay in the Cunha deal was about

Yep, spot on. In theory the Rashford loan means we save £15m+ a season, so can spend £75m on a player on a five year deal (obviously their wages need to be factored in).
Our club needs the cash to pay that fee, some clubs have owners who can pump the cash in so it’s not a problem for them.

@happy – Chelsea have done extremely well to get so such for Felix simply because it’s no secret now that the guy is a busted flush. Compare and contrast that with our dealings, we are struggling like fuck to get even 15 mill for Sancho after paying 73 mill for him, and Rashford’s option if Barcelona choose to buy him is just 26 million quid, simple as that.

@Blacky-In fairness, i think what Alfie said is spot on. Chelsea definitely have partners in the consortium that purchased the club who are funding a lot of what is happening there. American owners are not known for pumping billions of their own money in to clubs. That Felix Saudi deal is definitely dodgy when you consider how poor he has been yet he is one of only big name deals to happen this summer. Plus the structure of the deal with 50% being easily achievable add ons seems well strange. Chelsea have no doubt been ambitious but some of the dealings have been shady as. They’ll be selling the burger vans outside the stadium for half a billion next week

@homer I’d actually prefer not signing a striker and having bruno up top with mbuemo and Cunha either side. bruno’s finishing is very good and that’ll free up what we really need which is a strong, quick athletic midfielder to make up for whoever is next to him

Anyone see the Bournemouth game last night, only saw very biased highlights but we did ok. Højlund actually scored. Dorgu looks good. It looks like the players are beginning to understand what Amorim wants from them and how to do it. Leon does not look like an 18 year old. Biggest weaknesses I can see are CM and GK

Agreed, but I thought Bournemouth would give us a lot of trouble even in a pre-season friendly and we seemed to handle ourselves well. There was an element of physicality to our play that’s been missing in recent years. It was good but certainly I wouldn’t be going down happy’s ‘we’re good to go’ road any time soon. Heaton in goal though…..

Need to keep the powder dry until we see it week in week out in the PL next season. Media and usual outlets already trying to build us up no doubt hoping for the annual implosion that happens in the first month of the PL. Not expecting miracles next year but we need some type of identity and system to start building regardless of results.
Sesko for Hojlund would make the transfer a bit easier to take. Too many question marks over Hojlund and Sesko for me to have both in the squad next year. Midfield is going to be are undoing next season and don’t see who we can bring in between now and window closing to sort that out.

I watched it this morning and thought we did quite well. There’s so many ifs and buts its hardly worth saying BUT, IF Shaw and Mount stay fit then they could have an impact this season. Hojlund did look a lot better and Patrick Dorgu is a monster! Bruno looked very sharp as did Lenny Yoro. A few wayward passes from Casemiro in the middle and Mainoo just looks like an academy product at the moment so CM is definitely where we need reinforcements. And a Goal Keeper!
Who knows how much of the rebuild will actually be done this summer vs next. This summer 3 more signings would be good, Striker, CM and GK. Then next summer we obviously need a right wingback similar to Dorgu and probably a top ball playing left footed CB to replace Shaw._____________________________

I think “quite well” is a fair summary of how they played happy. But Bournemouth were poor and might just struggle a bit this season. Personally, I still think we should have cashed in on Bruno. He still coughs the ball up for fun, plays extravagant passes when he should play simple, and quite clearly is still the centre of attention when he needs to be just one of eleven. Him in a central two will be a problem.

@sirhodo, Heaton is 39 that’s why he gets stick. He was never meant to be more than a third choice ‘keeper and if he is better than Onono and Bayindir then it’s possibly the most damning indictment of all of our recruitment policy over the last decade or more.
