Agree about Eze v Mbeumo. On their day, Eze the better player but Mbeumo seems more consistent based on last season. Question is if he can carry that form over to a club the size of Utd and do it week in week out. More convinced by Cunha. The fee we’re paying for Mbuemo seems risky.

Agree what was said above about GyΓΆkeres too. Zero grantee he can do it in the PL. Massive risk he won’t be able to bring his form in Portugal to the PL. If we can’t get who we want it may be better to just hold on to the money rather than wasting 30 or 40 million on another player who won’t bring much to the party. Already have plenty of those.

Could be that we see a front three of Bruno, Cunha and Mbeumo, with no need for a traditional striker

I think Cunha, Mbeumo and Amad would be more likely with Mbeumo leading the line. Think he played 10 games up top for Brentford last season

I don’t see the point of buying Mbuemo for 60 million quid only to then play him in a position where he has not previously shone. This is why I’m dead set against this deal, because no matter where he plays for us next season it won’t be natural to him.
Whenever I have watched him he has played as a wide right forward looking to cut in on his favoured left foot, much like Mo Salah does for Liverpool. The very last thing we need in this crucial period is yet more square pegs filling round holes, simple as that.

I think he played as the leading striker 10 times last season, scored 9 goals, but there was hat trick against Spurs in those 10 starts I believe

Mbuemo of the right is strange when you think Amad has been the only decent thing to happen to the team the past year. Not sure Amad will start ahead of Dalot at right wing back so hard to know what they’re thinking. Or maybe it’ll be Amad, Mbuemo and Cunha competing for the 2 number 10 positions. Still think midfield is the most important position to add quality to but there doesn’t seem to be any movement.

He didn’t score a hat trick at all last season, and only scored one goal in the two games versus Spurs. Either way, it makes far more sense to spend that money on a proper striker instead of someone who has just played there now and again.
As it stands, this deal has got red flags flying all the way around it for me.

Correct @N1xer, plus if they really think Amad can cut the mustard at right wing back we’re doubly fucked because he just ain’t physically built for that role.

Apparently Amorim’s blueprint for a wingback is a superfast technical player who can carry the ball from defence to attack in seconds. So Amad would fit the bill for that role as does Dorgu on the other side. Who knows, either way i’m sure Amorim knows what he wants!

In Amorim’s system I don’t think the wing back is an out and out defender, it’s more of what we consider to be the box to box role some midfielders used to do where they are involved both offensively and defensively except in this case they’re shunted onto the wing where’s more space to run. Amad is probably better than Dalot because Dalot is an average as fuck defender and an average as fuck attacker. The three CBs do most of the defending. This is all ideally, but nothing in Man Utd seems to fit the ideal these days.

@happy – Would he fuck, Amad is not slow but he is nowhere near “superfast” as you say. He will get found out big time playing that role. I wish to fuck people would stop trying to put square pegs into round holes, and still expect us to fundamentally improve.
There’s not a cat in hells chance that we ever will if we start playing Mbuemo as a striker, and Amad as a wing back on a regular basis, deary me.

I think that Amad at right-wing back works for a certain level of opposition. Whatever the starting positions of these players, we now have options in formation and off the bench, although a new striker would give a lot more flexibility.

Its absolutely crucial that we sign two goal scoring #10s this summer. I already looking forward for next season with Cunha and Mbeumo arriving. Our attack is finally getting the firepower its been missing. I love the idea of Bruno playing deeper as one of the CMs. His creativity and work rate could be transformative there. And I will say Zirkzee might just be the most technically gifted player in our squad. His link up play would be perfect foil for Cunha and Mbeumo in certain games. Amad is more dangerous as a RWB than as a #10. When he plays further forward, the game just passes him by but as a wing back, his dribbling and delivery could terrify defenses. If we can add a proper striker, a midfielder and maybe even a goalkeeper, this could genuinely be one of our best transfer windows in years.

@BoredRedPanda 25th June 2025 at 8:19 pm. I agree nothing is guaranteed in football, but right now Gyokeres is easily a top 5 striker in the world. Hes at the absolute peak of his powers and I back him to make an immediate impact scoring goals if we sign him. In fact, I would be tempted to bet on him winning the golden boot in the PL. Thats how highly I rate him.

There goes another square peg suggestion now with Bruno playing CM. He never has been nor will he ever be a central midfielder fit for purpose in a demanding league like the Premier League, especially when his likely partner is going to be one of Mainoo, Casemiro or Ugarte, who have all got glaring deficiencies of their own to be greatly concerned about.
Fuck me, even if we had a 25 year old Roy Keane to rely on alongside him Fernandes would still be a total liability as a central midfielder, simple as that.

@thedevil perhaps you’re right. A front three of him, Cunha and Mbuemo would give me a bit of hope for the new season. I’m happy to see United buying goals instead of hype this summer.

I don’t think GyΓΆkeres will take to the PL that quickly. You also have the president of the club where Everton’s Beto played saying he’s more suited to the PL that GyΓΆkeres, which should be setting alarm bells ringing.

Ratshit and his clueless clowns are going to end up caving in to Brentford’s demands and in so doing they will be committing Β£120 million quid on a player who has had just one good season in his entire career, and who is not even a natural fit for Amorim’s seriously flawed formation.
Fact is, our recruitment is still every bit as hopeless and scattergun as it ever was under the gimps and Ed Woodward with seemingly no end in sight, deary me.

I also don’t rate the signing of Gyokeres as i firmly believe there are better alternatives out there for that position
. He just seems like an upgraded Holjund and we know how that turned out. If we can’t get a proper number 9 i would suggest letting Zirkzee play with Cunha and Mbeumo as he could complement both
