999, to be honest I was thinking of Pep when I wrote it, one season with Barca B and then straight into the big time…..Pagan

Chelsea are completely excused for bringing in Lampard. He’s the exception because of the rather strange state of events. It’s any other top club that is taking a huge and potentially unnecessary risk.

There is a lad from Sunderland who lives across the hall from me. He told me they sacked their manager even though they are something like 6th. So I had a little lightbulb moment and just asked him “would you take Gerrard?” and he had to think about it.

That right there underlines my point about how Liverpool fans need to consider the mans credentials as a manager and not a legendary player.

(EDIT : sry i forgot what thread this was in)

SPURS SHOULDN’T SACK POCH. POCH DOESN’T WANT TO GO (APPARENTLY). There, what a recovery.

Pagan… 999…. โœŒ๏ธ dont want to point out the obvious but… โœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ™ˆ Lampard is by far not the first manager we’ve appointed who had little to no prior experience. I’d argue we’ve a pretty good track record in it being successful with it. The legend of Sir Bob the Italian and Gullit and Vialli with their cups spring to mind!

    Here’s why.
    Glen Hoddle
    Ruud Gullit
When the ball hits the net like a Fukken rocket It’s vialli…
    Anndre Villa Boas
    Avram Grant
    Bobby Di matteo
    Frank Lampard.

Could throw in Englands number 2, Steve Holland?

Where’s banjo, awfully quite good sir. I have said for years Chelsea needed to ditch the likes of Willian and Hazard and player power inn the dressing room. It looks as though Lampard has gone and done the job with. big brush and just continued what Sarri and Conte started with the horrendous likes of Costa and other great players but who were pains to the clubs backside.

My question to thee Banjo, would you be happy with the sale of Dire, Aurier, Eriksen et all if it meant you could sustain a league and UEFA cup team for the next few years? Would you even consider the sale of Kane?

Just how far would spurs fans go to back poch?

Didn’t Steve Holland manage Chelsea for 1 game on a Caretaker basis 442?๐Ÿ˜Š

I think we have to discriminate between the two different eras of Chelsea the Bates era and the Abramovich era.

The Abramovich era for obvious reasons has seen much more high profile appointments and whether Lampard would have been appointed without the transfer ban is open to conjecture but given all the circumstances he was probably the right appointment at that time.

The appointment of Hoddle at time was a great appointment imo and he started the first Chelsea rejuvenation under Bates.

Hoddle left Chelsea to manage England. Gullit’s appointment followed by Vialli’s was designed to take that on and they did.

Villas Boas was meant to be Jose without the baggage and he came to us having won the treble at Porto he was the wrong appointment for all sorts of reasons.

Grant was appointed Caretaker Manager and then inexplicably we gave him a 3 year contract he gave his all but was never the right man imo, he got us to a CL Final but was then sacked.

Di Matteo a Chelsea playing legend was appointed Caretaker Manager and went on to win the FA Cup and CL he deserved his chance but the job was too big for him.

As I said in my original post it’s all about the circumstances.

……Pep was a risky appointment at the time but he was steeped in Barca having come up through La Masia it worked and the rest is history but plenty of times it doesn’t and Chelsea appointing Lampard was a risk hopefully it comes off.

My initial post was written about Pep, and yes I did think about putting a bit about Frank and hoping he could do similar things, however I decided to intentionally miss that out in order to get a bit of debate going, which it seems to have done.

For me, with Chelsea having the transfer ban, Jody and Frank were the best options, and personally Iโ€™d like to see the two windows ban upheld so the youngsters get a whole season to prove themselves and others may get a chance to stake a claim in the domestic cup Competitions should we keep progressing.

I just hope when the ban is lifted we buy sparingly and specifically to cover the positions we are weak in and donโ€™t just blanket buy and shove the kids back into the token appearance mode just to try and keep them happy…..Pagan

I would be stunned if Chelsea were to go into the market with an idea of replacing Mount or Abraham. Even Tomori is getting a lot of praise. I honestly haven’t taken as much notice of him but by the sounds of it, people want to see how he develops in the first team.

Jose Mourinho turned down Lyon’s approach to become their new manager because the former Manchester United and Chelsea boss has already found another club, according to the Ligue 1 side’s president Jean-Michel Aulas. (Goal) ????
