Derby sack Cocu and Rooney takes over, well it’s finally happened officially, worst kept secret in Derby, now just the transfer of ownership of the club to sort out and the buying back of the ground….Pagan

15th November 2020 at 7:32 am #170246The general consensus is that Derby are spending £1.33 for every £1 they turn over, hence why they had to sell their stadium, although they are quite well supported locally they don’t have a wide fan base so quite how they turn that round is anyone’s guess…..Pagan

15th November 2020 at 11:46 am #170259If the takeover happens Derby should try for Pochettino.
Derby are a bit of a sleeping giant, great ground good Academy and with a bit of money spent in the right areas under the right Manager once they get themselves out of the Championship they could make an impact in the PL.

15th November 2020 at 2:02 pm #170265That’s true Moos and according to reports he together with the other Coaches at the Club who will manage the team through their next fixture next weekend. I doubt Derby will make a permanent managerial appointment until the new owner is finalised and he’s given his approval.
If I was him I would go a bit more ambitious than Rooney but the first job is to ensure Derby stay in the Championship and go from there.

15th January 2021 at 11:34 pm #173872Nine, Poch has only just got in at PSG. Doubt he’d be easy to prise from there.
All the best to Rooney and now that he’s retired, what a brilliant player he was. Probably never reached the heights his early talent warranted but still had a bloody good career. Could and perhaps should have been one of the all time greats though. There have been few better talents at 18-20 than him.

16th January 2021 at 8:16 am #173873Ed, my post above was back in November re Poch and Derby. I think you misread the 15th November for the 15th January, easily done.
Re Rooney a truly great player who could have been even better.
Not sure about him as Manager although he played under the very best, time will tell. Cheers 9’s

16th January 2021 at 8:33 am #173874Ah I think your being a bit harsh lads. He reached huge heights. An absolutely unreal player. Maybe like Michael Owen, he played far to much football from a young age. Wasn’t he 16 when he made his debut.
World class

16th January 2021 at 12:04 pm #173876To be fair to Rooney, he’ll probably be appreciated more now he’s retired, a bit like Beckham he’s been judged on more than just his football throughout his career…..Pagan

16th January 2021 at 1:51 pm #173877Rooney has often been his own worst enemy away from the game I wish him well though fabulous player when he was on his game.
Big challenge for him managing Derby and there is still some uncertainty surrounding the takeover get that done and things will look a lot brighter and it will give Rooney a real chance of pushing for promotion next season they need to secure their place in the Championship first though.

16th January 2021 at 2:30 pm #1738789, Derby’s finances are questionable, apparently the players haven’t been payed, as a club they’re in a bit of a mess. Rooney becoming manager was nailed on months ago, no experienced manager would take on the challenge….Pagan

17th March 2021 at 4:50 pm #176636The general talk around Derby is confirmed, the sale of the club has fallen through despite the prospective buyers being instrumental in appointing Rooney. The club losing money, and any new owner probably wanting to buy the ground off Morris are muted sticking points in any deal, this could all go horribly wrong for Derby County…..Pagan

17th March 2021 at 5:10 pm #176637Thing with Rooney is he is england and uniteds top goal scorer of all time and people still say he never reached his potential. All that tells you is how brilliant he was that people expected better than that from his career. Add to that many prem titles and champs league and he is a true legend and one if the best players I have seen in prem.
