Amorim said they are being careful with Cunha because he is raring to go but they want to make sure everyone is at the same fitness level for the beginning of the season. So i don’t think its anything to worry about.

@happy – The caveat to my earlier post is that it was still last season’s team out there last night with at least half of them proven themselves not to be good enough when the real action begins, so I wouldn’t be pressing the start button on your giddyometer just yet.

Very promising start to pre season. We are starting to see Amorim’s preferred XI and style of play. Obviously taking this very seriously as we have a difficult start to the season and need to hit the ground running

Not bothered about Cunha been left out. A lot of this is driven by sports science. I bet he will play at least 70 mins of the next game and look one of the fittest players on the pitch

Pre-season football is mainly about fitness and rhythm but I already starting to see glimpses of Amorim Sporting team at Utd. Lets not forget we lost 3–0 to Bournemouth and 2–0 to Westham at home last season. We beat both teams comfortably and against Bournemouth we did it with the same squad as last season. People might say they are poor but theres clearly improvement in this Utd side. Thats the difference a full pre season can make. Now we need to keep this momentum going and carry it into the new season. As Amorim said in his speech after the Villa game, the good days are coming.

The opening game against Arsenal is going to be HUGE – absolutely massive.
Win and the players will believe and can push on for the entire season.
Lose and the players will instantly revert to type and we’ll spend a season struggling.
Amorim just has to find a way to beat Arsenal on the opening weekend.

The players looked like they fought for everything in the last two matches and were treating the matches like competitive fixtures, which is great to see. No sauntering around and half-hearted challenges.

@happyhurling – a draw might just prolong the “will they / won’t they?” question for the season I guess… It would mimic last season’s result but, depending on the performance, might build morale or lower it (if we get battered for 90 minutes and somehow keep a draw it might be damaging whilst, if we play better than them, create good chances and just don’t score then maybe the team will take a little heart from that).

This 5-2-1-2 (3-4-1-2) with Bruno as no. 10, Cunha left forward and Mbeumo right forward suits us so much better – two actual CM’s, Bruno in his preferred no. 10 role where he can afford to play risky passes and the front two don’t look out of place there
