The first couple of pre season games are all about players fitness and results mean nothing at this stage. I remember one pre season under van Gaal where we were smashing teams but that didnt carry over into the league. I only start to worry if our performances and team rhythm dont improve after 3 or 4 games.

        Crazy pen to give away

Ugarte unlucky not to get a very good assist. de Ligt having a great game in the middle of the back 3

Only watched the highlights but it seems the team were doing one of the main things that we didn’t really see from them in the past under Amorim: attacking in numbers and midfielders giving through balls to the wing backs to get in behind their defensive line. Quite a few opportunities created (albeit against weak opposition) but at least some slightly encouraging signs.

Seems Ugarte/Mainoo and Fernandes will be the midfield pair once Mbuemo comes in… unless he drops Hojlund to the bench and Mbuemo plays up front. Hojlund seemed to do a little better today at least.

Haven’t seen the game yet due to MUTV’s ridiculous scheduling, but the one stat that stands out for me, other than the result, is 43% possession. That, against a very average West Ham, sums up the problem with United, and until we have a team of players who are comfortable on the ball and can keep possession, it will continue.

Yep, we can dismiss the notion that we’re ever going to dominate the midfield area irrespective of how piss poor the opposition are. Ugarte hasn’t got any sort of a passing game, Mainoo is one paced and is totally lacking in any aggression or intensity, Casemiro’s legs have totally gone, and if Bruno plays in there we will get counter attacked to fuck which will totally expose the lack of pace at the back, particularly when Maguire and De Ligt are in there.

More shots, more shots on target and, most importantly, more goals.

United played well and cut through West Ham multiple times. West Ham offered nothing until after they got their goal, when United changed the entire team

Looking at West Ham’s squad as it stands it very much looks like they will be in a relegation fight this season, particularly if any of the three promoted teams manage to stay up. Their only real offensive threat is Jarrod Bowen and if he gets any sort of a serious injury they really are up shit creek without a paddle.

Cracking second goal by Bruno, and a great shame Ugarte’s fantastic play, interception, run and pass, didn’t result in a goal due to Amad being fractionally offside. Certainly a few positives from that game, albeit just a preseason friendly.

Yep, saw a report saying Ugarte will be better this season because he didn’t actually have a pre-season last year. He was brought in late August and Ten Haag took ages to get him up to speed – so he’ll be ready to hit the ground running hopefully this season. Also wondered how De Ligt would be with the pace of Yoro and Heaven either side of him, apparently he did very well. He’s only 25 so hopefully he’ll make that position his own this season. Bournemouth will be a bigger test but that was a lot better than the Leeds game!

Rashford came on at half-time before being replaced in the 78th minute. After the match, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick explained why the 27-year-old came off 33 minutes after coming on.
“He’s week behind the others,” he said. “He hasn’t been training as much with the ball, and we want to look after him.

Great result and by all accounts it seems to have been a result that matched the performance.

Only pre season but good to see a few goals go in. Nice to see Dorgu forward for his goal and good to see Mount’s quick thinking for that goal.

Fantastic play by Leon in the last goal too, fabulous use of the old rolly polly whilst dribbling trick which completely bedazzled the Bournemouth defence.

I believe Dorgu was the standout.

Surprised at the win never mind the score, especially as Bournemouth have been a thorn in our side far too often. More important than the result though is going into August with a bit of continuity and momentum and avoiding injuries because we sure as fuck need to be bang at it once those tough fixtures start rolling in every week.

Saw some extended highlights and it again seems like Amorim wants the team pressing really high up the field and playing fast and quick balls into the forward line.
Also great to see the wing backs attacking down the lines and overlapping, something that has been missing for many many years.
Obviously way too early to judge and the result means absolutely nothing… But hopefully this is a sign of how Amorim will get the team playing next year.

Sympathy – Yeah apparently he wants slower build ups and not so many “forced” attacks. Maguire said he told them that there are too many transitions and when it turns into a basketball game we’re not good enough. So the plan is quick 1 or 2 touch passing and moving to get control of the ball in space – then build up the play to create chances in overloaded areas. Ten Haag’s approach was to try to create turn overs in the final 3rd which created chances, but that isn’t a sustainable approach. And it often led to a complete lack of control over the games. Amorim’s system demands that we control matches much more effectively. Certainly against teams outside of the top 4.
We’ll see how it works out but i’ve always preferred lightening quick counter attacking football. Not sure about slow build up play, but if it works then i guess we’ll get used to it!
