My vote goes to Dias with Bruno a close second. Quite surprised Shaw isn’t amongst the top contenders. Been excellent this season. Gundogan been very good, too.

12th May 2021 at 9:41 am #179033AnonymousLampard bossed the midfield line and dictated many games whenever he was on the field. His IQ is said to be only 10 behind the great Physicist, Albert Einstein and Lampard’s vision of the game and his pinpoint passes and goal scoring ability from midfield were legendary.

12th May 2021 at 10:29 am #179039MistraMoos,
He was hardly likely to boss and control the midfield when wasn’t on the pitch was he.
Great players very rarely make great managers as natural talent and ability don’t equal hard work when it comes down to coaching……Pagan

12th May 2021 at 11:28 am #179043Ye Ed shaw was excellent.
Ferndes for me followed by Dias. Mount was excellent aswell
Pure bias from Neville the other night.
Lost a lot of respect for him including maguire and rashford in there especially rashford.
Maguire really improved after Christmas but he was poor before then.he had great stats but he makes mistakes that go unpunished. Some dreadful mistakes early on v spurs ,rb, bRighton. Rashford far to inconsistent. Stones and Dias best centre backs. Rudiger has been
Brilliant since Lampard left.Cavani is not a bad choice for signing of the season as he was free and he really has been brilliant

12th May 2021 at 12:26 pm #179047I don’t disagree with you re Neville’s team Sean. I think he’s usually quite fair and unbiased when it comes to Utd but those selections certainly suggested otherwise. Rashford can be devastating and he can be invisible. You never know which one you’ll get. Very frustrating player in that sense.
Mount been very good too, I agree. The talent coming through in England’s central midfield now is incredible. Mount, Foden, Rice, Bellingham, Grealish. Sorry, I know you’re not English Sean but just highlighting what a good crop of players there are coming through all at the same time. What will likely let England down is the lack of equally good depth at CB. Completely going off topic there 😂

12th May 2021 at 12:31 pm #179048Agree with that list although I maybe would’ve added Tomas Soucek and Calvert-Lewin (both been excellent for West Ham and Everton respectively). Its been an odd season, there’s been a number of players who have made a real difference to their sides but none has stood out above the others by a hugely obvious amount. I would go for Dias since he’s been class for the winners all season, but I’m a blue so I’m biased 😉
Young Player I’d give to Foden but I wouldn’t disagree if it was Mount. Big shouts to Saka, Tierney, Rice and especially Foffana at Leicester who has been class whenever I’ve seen him play. Technically I think Dias also qualifies for the young player category…both to him 😉

12th May 2021 at 1:14 pm #179050No worries Ed. Some frightening talent there.
I’ve loved watching grealish this season but time is running out for him to get fully fit. He be in my England starting 11.
What would your starting 11 be?
Keeper I’d go for pope or Henderson
Walker maguire stones shaw
Rice ?? ? ?
Kane
Very hard to pick the 3 behind Kane if it’s 4-2-3-1
Massive opportunity for England as aren’t most of their games at Wembley?

12th May 2021 at 1:35 pm #179051Yeah I think if everyone was fit, I’d go
Pope
TAA Stones Maguire Shaw
Rice Henderson
Sterling Mount Foden
KaneBut you could easily switch any of Rashford, Sancho, Grealish, Lingard for the 3 behind Kane. Greenwood may have left it a little late to find form but he’ll not be far behind them either.
What I think Southgate will do though is:
Pickford
Walker Stones Maguire Chilwell
Rice Philips
Sterling Mount Foden
Kane_____________________________

12th May 2021 at 1:44 pm #179052Sterling has been very poor recently and I’d go foden right abd grealish/rashford left but so many choices
Don’t think Henderson will make it to be honest Ed. Be no we’re near fit enough even if he recovers so will be Philips in there?

13th May 2021 at 10:07 am #179079Bruno Fernandes has consistently delivered with a very good attitude and commitment. A type of player that would be an asset in any team.
Gundogen really stepped up in the absence of KDB.
My player this season though is Patrick Bamford.

13th May 2021 at 11:04 am #179082I like the PFA Player of the Year because it’s the players voting for the Player of the Year in their eyes.

13th May 2021 at 4:54 pm #179092Re the England team, if we’re playing two HMFs (Rice and Henderson) there’s no reason why we can’t play Foden, Mount and Grealish behind Kane.
However, Southgate is not bold enough to adopt that approach so I suspect he’ll go with ‘tried and tested’ from previous. He really should be using the Euros as a stepping stone to the next WC, like the Germans and Italians have done previously and subsequently went on to lift the World Cup._____________________________

14th May 2021 at 9:27 am #179125Hey Sean, I think Salah has suffered in ratings just because Liverpool have dropped off so muxh this year compared to last, but you’re right he’s still up there in terms of goals. Good shout with Saint-Maximan but he’s missed most of the season, pity but Newcastle should be a lot better next season with him fit from the off.
Plenty of good shouts though, Bissouma, Watkins, and Bamford (good shout Nike). I think the question is still which one stood out above the rest? For me it’s Dias, integral part of the seasons beat team, he’s got 2 trophies in the bag and a chance of a 3rd.

I wouldn’t argue with it being Dias Mike he’s been massively impressive but this is an award voted for by the players and they will vote for the player who has most impressed them whoever wins it I’m sure will be deserving.

14th May 2021 at 4:31 pm #179145Good point nine. I suppose most players watch other players mainly on the TV just like we do though – its not like Salah battles it out against Dias every week is it? It’ll be interesting to see what the votes are though, I bet there’s always a bit of politics in it – can’t see Liverpool players voting for Utd players, or Spurs boys voting for an Arsenal player 🙂 Are the votes public, can you see who each player votes for anywhere?

14th May 2021 at 4:37 pm #179146Unfortunately Mike I don’t think they think that way bar they very odd exception many are international team mates or former team mates and many from different clubs socialise it’s why many don’t seem bothered by losses to rivals as fans do
A bit like RM and hazard after the cl semi defeat
I think it’s more like a school popularity contest!!!
Or who played best against them over a season maybe for the odd few_____________________________
