Mak,Marina has been doing the role since Emenalo departed Marina as good a businesswoman as she may be she is not a football person. Emenalo didn’t have any experience when he took on the role and neither did he have Cech’s football credibility.

There is a very small pool of Sporting Directors to choose from anyway and that’s before you get in to who might actually be available to Chelsea.

There is a significant lack of football nous at Board level currently Cech can bring that football nous to the Board and importantly he already has a very good relationship with Roman. He also knows and understands the inner workings of the Club he might not tick all of the boxes but he ticks an awful lot of them and he’s also a Chelsea legend he’s won everything there is to win in the game and has massive international experience which gives him credibility iin persuading players to join the Club.

Let’s wait and see whether the appointment is made official if it is personally I think Chelsea will be in a much better position than we are now should Cech be appointed and that he will be a significant upgrade on Emenalo but there are no guarantees in football although importantly Cech seemingly has the confidence and ear of Roman which is a great start experienced or not.

ps Michael Edwards had no previous experience as a Sporting Director but he seems to be doing ok at Liverpool.?

      Cheers 999
