I agree with you that Slot is probably gonna keep his job until the summer as there are not that many feasible targets to take over but things might chance fast.
If there is any truth to him and Hughes butting heads over the lineup and transfer targets and that blows up, I can see Slot leaving early.
All of our youth development under him has taken a hit, there are only two u21 players getting any amount of game time. The rest have left.
I cant think of a single player that has improved except maybe Szoboszlai and Jones but that was bound to happen anyway just by coming of age and having adapted to the club.
He fails to protect the players, he fails to protect the squad.
Then there is the slow play style, a bad result against Arsenal and a bad performance at home against Burnley might set something in motion.
I find it strange that we had more belief in Rhys Williams and Nat Philips than season.

12th January 2026 at 5:30 pm #236540Haha, all good 3ps.
I had the masters snooker on y’day and didn’t even know about the Real Madrid defeat. Was that the final straw? Also what’s happened with Trent? Wasn’t even named; is he injured?

12th January 2026 at 5:31 pm #236541Now Xabi has been sacked, I think this question needs to be asked. If Xabi hadn’t been a LFC player, would he still be your go to manager?

12th January 2026 at 5:39 pm #236542For that moonster you have to weigh up the situation and take emotion out of it.
His Levekusen team were superb. Tactically brilliant. But it was using a 3421 system that would be alien to our players and one with don’t have CBs to facilitate.
At Madrid he changed the system to suit the mega stars that team has. He went from tactical excellence to shoehorning players in. The 3 at the back was dropped. He lost his job not because of results (in the main) but because he upset some of the pampered senior players who didn’t like being told to work hard in training.
I would take him if we get the Lverkusen Alonso and can somehow satisfy his system. Emotions aside he would be probably my 2nd choice after Enrique, but I admit the Real situation does cast some tiny doubts.

12th January 2026 at 5:45 pm #236545Moonster I donยดt want him, he lost the whole locker room of Madrid and needs to rebuild his reputation. Then I doubt his tactics would work for us, I just donยดt see us playing that way.

12th January 2026 at 5:52 pm #236546I think we will stick with Slot until the end of the season and reassess. It is likely Alonso will want some time off and we will find it difficult to get the players in this window that he would need. Start of summer would make more sense for everyone, and maybe there are other names to consider by then too.

12th January 2026 at 6:00 pm #236547Threeps there is no way Liverpool FC start playing with a back three, we would need to revamp our whole youth system as well, not just the first team. We have a ready made production line that will keep feeding us players for a back four system. The club will not play a back three, back five ever, not as a permanent formation. Alonso could be our manager, he only had to say yes to the club but chose Madrid instead. I donยดt think our football club should be anyoneยดs 2nd choice.

12th January 2026 at 6:01 pm #236548Im not over hyped by Xabi if im honest and that mostly comes down to the three at the back…its just not me or the LFC way.
One thing is for sure, I bet Slot will be looking over his shoulder with every loss from now on._____________________________

12th January 2026 at 6:14 pm #236550If you’re going to be a top manager at a big club, you need to be an excellent man manager and deal with the situation you have. That doesn’t appear to have happened for Alonso for me. In any case, Slot has now steadied the ship a bit. So thinking more about it, how much of an improvement, if any, would he now give to us? Tactically does he have it for this league? And does he have the charisma & man management to work well enough at another big club?
There is an emphasis now at most of the big clubs in this country to bring in young talent and install a coach rather than a manager to develop it. But expectations still remain high. This is why most top clubs are struggling to make it work. Is Rosenior going to deal with it at Chelsea? Probably not for me, it will just go the same way as Maresca.
Bottom line is, you still need a charismatic coach who has the man management ability to succeed at a top club with the demands and expectations. As things stand, think Slot has more of that ability than Alonso.

12th January 2026 at 6:16 pm #236551I donโt think judging a manager by how they got on at Madrid is a proper barometer.
Madrid sack managers who win things.
Player power rules at Madrid.
That and what the president thinks on any given day.
Ancelotti even warned Alonso about the job.

12th January 2026 at 6:23 pm #236555Real Madrid is a poison chalice for any manager looking to build a new system, bring players through the youth, change the club mindset and ethics, etc. Not many have succeeded and Alonso was stupid to even go there!
However, Alonso is made for clubs such as liverpool, with a tighter budget and the emphasis on building players, a new system, getting the time to do so and the backing of the our hierarchy!
Im not one for sacking managers deffo for one who won us the league. I would give slot until the end of season and then see what the clubs got in mind for the future. Im hoping slot turns it around and liverpool win the champions league. It would be a great send off for VVD and Salah, players that came to
Liverpool when more lucrative offers were and have been on the table._____________________________

12th January 2026 at 6:24 pm #236556He did play 4 at the back, but that wasn’t his direct choice to do so. Xabi is a 3 at the back man.

12th January 2026 at 6:27 pm #236557Still doesnโt change the fact that most successful managers whichever club theyโre at, tend to be the more charismatic ones. Unai Emery is clearly an excellent coaching manager. But donโt think heโs tended to do well at the bigger clubs heโs been at.

12th January 2026 at 6:30 pm #236558In the summer I actually wanted Slot to go to a back 3, or maybe a hybrid back 3 with Grav stepping into it during build up from the back. Thought our fullback purchases would suit it down to the ground, plus Wirtz, plus two high profile no 9s. But then again I am not sure who is actually making the purchase final decisions, maybe Hughes if Hughes wants a back 3 then one day we will get it.

12th January 2026 at 6:31 pm #236559Mikus, what makes you think Alonso is lacking charisma?
Ironically, one of Madrid’s most celebrated coaches of recent times, Zidane, has the charisma of brick.

12th January 2026 at 6:34 pm #236561Alonso has lost just 5 games, only 2 in the league.
Heโs already beat Barca in the league.
They sit just 4 points behind Barca.Barca are 11 points better off than they were this time last year.
Slot has lost 6 games just in the league alone.
