A third of the way through the season and enough games for everybody to get a fairly decent indication on how the rest of the season is going to unfold with your team (and get a fairly obvious opinion on others too!)

As for my mob, we just seem to be confused. I do think we have a pretty decent squad, but I also think our manager is struggling big-time to get a tune out of them. The only “area” I think we are lacking is a proper out and out striker… Richy, bless him, gives it his all but can just about turn it on 1 game in 4 (and that’s being generous), the lad from PSG, all I can say is I hope he’s renting, and Big-Dom, arguably our best striker hasn’t been seen since summer.

The rest of the squad, genuinely think is a Top 4 side, played correctly and it would look even better with Kulu and Madders in it.

Starting to think Frank is a gamble which is going to backfire.

But Frank isn’t the only manager who is struggling… Pool’s form has been iffy at best since about April, Amorim seems to be going around in circles, I think Howe’s bubble up at Newcastle if it hasn’t burst is surely deflating slowly…

The only managers who haven’t tarnished their reputation this season are the lads at Palace, Brighton, Sunderland and Bournemouth… especaily Irola and Glasner who keep having their teams torn apart every summer…

West Ham and Forest already blinked, I wonder who’s going to be next?

I think it’s a simple case of those teams who keep their philosophy and bring in players who will easily adapt to their philosophy will succeed, whereas those who spend bigger can end up having to somewhat adapt to the players they bring in. City have ended up in my opinion now being more reliant on Haaland. Liverpool with the coach and recruitment team don’t appear to have had a plan to work it all together whilst ignoring the need for more defenders /holding midfielders. Chelsea at least now have a playing style that the players are having to adapt, which obviously also applies to the likes of Bournemouth, Bristol, Palace, etc. And Arsenal have kept their core together now for sometime further adding physicality to their team in an ever more physical league this year.

For Frank at Spurs have they simply gone from one extreme to the other after Ange last year with a coach now that’s less exciting and more ordered but now under pressure to be more exciting with a higher calibre of player with a bigger dressing room harder to handle than Brentford. Always the danger when coming from a smaller club to a bigger club, particularly for me if the philosophies don’t quite match.

As for Newcastle, they seemed unprepared for Isak leaving and for me and maybe made a bit of a hash brown of their business over summer though obviously Wissa has yet to kick a ball this season.

Part of me also thinks the size of the club is also relevant too, not just the manager. Players, especially from overseas, who go to clubs considered “mid-size”, your Palace’s, Bournemouth’s and Brighton’s for example, also have that extra incentive to play well because the chances are a decent season or two will get you a “mega-money” move to one of the larger clubs… I think we’ve all seen players, entire teams, down tools at the bigger clubs if they decide they manager isn’t up to their standard… all good while the sun shines but the minute there’s a hint of a crisis they know the owners is going to change managers before selling them at the car boot sale.

Was happy to give Frank a chance, but he is already on thin ice I think. He doesn’t just need some wins, he needs some sort of performances. I know us Spuds have that reputation for wanting fancy dan football etc… but a win is a win is a win… as long as it comes with something which looks like progress.

Unfortunately I can see Fulham sitting deep this weekend, soaking up the pressure (so watch our two CB’s pass to each other and back again) before hitting us on the break.

At the very least, would like to see something more along the lines of a 4-2-3-1 rather than a 4-3-3 with 3 defensive midfielders…

Of course, be a lot better with Big-Dom and Kulu but no real idea when either is coming back. We know Madders is out for the season (so dancing around like a loony when we win the CL… )
