My Avatar is the the great Pirate himself so of course no offense taken! Think once on TT someone called me Mr Threepwood but other than that no one else has mentioned it.
Said before but sometimes, actually nearly everytime, you need to step back from what stats say and actually listen to what your brain is telling you. And I don’t think it takes a tactical mastermind to see many things are currently wrong, but it might need one to put it right. Just hope Slot can.

21st October 2025 at 11:02 am #228625Yes Mac Allister was fantastic last season, particularly the 2nd half of the season.
But that was last season. And this is a new season.
He’s now a shell of that player.
V Man Utd-

21st October 2025 at 11:53 am #228626Threeps, i wasnt talking stats, i watched the game thoroughly.. my opinion was man united got away with it.. we were unlucky! The stats only came to the fore when you stated that we were shite and were dominated by united…

21st October 2025 at 12:56 pm #228628So Asian, you were happy with the performance right? Just not the result. Would you be happy if we continue this tactical setup for the next few games?
You could always argue we were lucky Bruno didn’t bury his faily easy chance to make it two nil. I don’t think we were unusually unlucky, maybe the first goal as it should have been stopped but we still should have prevented it but played badly.

21st October 2025 at 2:33 pm #228634Threeps, yep i was happy with the performance bar the result.. yes some players need to step up(kerkez wasnt at the races until the last 20 minutes) but i see improvements(konate for example)… probably my brains frazzled then, but if you were a neutral watching that game you would say liverpool were the better side.
Yeah brunos chance came right after a great chance in a similar situation to us, also van dijks back post header, not to mention hitting the post from gakpo earlier… so whats your point?
Ginger, sean… dropping macalister.. whats it gonna achieve?? We gona score more goals? Concede less? Boss the midfield? Has Curtis been revelation this year? FYI we already dropped him against galatasray( who are be weaker than palace, chelsea and united)… did we win??
Its amazing threeps is saying to me “dont point at players, look at the system” yet jumping on the bandwagon of dropping macalister?? This wreaks of people always on diazs case in the past.. i bet you boys were also the guys that wanted alonso sold in 2007-08 season along with our “davinci”.. yes?

21st October 2025 at 2:54 pm #228635Because Asian MacAllister doesnt suit this system, so yes i want him dropped for someone that does, or we adjust the system to suit the players including him. Its not about “this player is crap, play that player instead”, its about understanding what they are supposed to do. Having MacAllister in along the opposion penalty area with 4 others already isnt great when he has the pace of a drunk snail in getting back, leaving a massive gap to be exploited. Plus he clearly is not fit, not that he is a particular good athelete normally anyway.
So what’s my point? Well I was reacting to your post that we had great chances, well so did Utd, so what was your point?
Utd got the win despite a massive deficit in quality, they got it not because they were lucky but because Amorim’s tactics worked for the players on the pitch and Slot’s got it wrong (again).

21st October 2025 at 3:29 pm #228637I hasten to add I am not in anyway suggesting this as feasible or even desirable.
BUT, if Slot doesn’t turn it around (and I personally hope and think he will), is there certain person the board would call AND if they did, would he answer..

21st October 2025 at 3:36 pm #228639“reacting to your post that we had great chances” well i was reacting to your original point that united were the better team… which they clearly werent… so they carved out 3 chances we carved out about 9.. do the maths!
Anyhow, your point about mcalister being slow and not fit for the system.. sell him January i suppose! At least that should fix all the problems + sean, you and ginger will be chuffed!

21st October 2025 at 3:41 pm #228641Macclad… seriously??? Wth is wrong with liverpool fans these days… it really puts you off the game altogether… unless we are in dire straits and sitting in relegation come new year… sackings are a long way off.. and no sean dyche just joined Nottingham forest, so hes not gonna answer the call!

21st October 2025 at 3:47 pm #228642I totally agree and I’ll very happily give Slot tons of slack. I was just playing hypotheticals, I made it clear I thought he’d sort it. Its just a forum you know – a place to have conversation, I presume you’ve never sat in a pub and had a ‘what if’ conversation?!?

21st October 2025 at 4:16 pm #228643I don’t want MacA sold.
I want him rehabilitated back to his proper form.
But that doesn’t come at the expense of loses in the league.
If he isn’t in form/performing well then another player gets the chance in the meantime.I absolutely take your point Threeps about the system and I agree.
However MacA has under performed playing other roles in midfield this season already, not just Sunday. He’s woefully out of form.
The system absolutely does need tweaked/changed also._____________________________

21st October 2025 at 4:35 pm #228647Can’t disagree with you. I’d put Szobo in there for the time being, with Wirtz in front. Chiesa in for Salah and possibly Ekitike in for Gapko (although he has done ok, I think we are just relying on him too much without Diaz.) Then Isak up top. We need some stability in selection without a rinse and repeat effect.
I’d then tell the three of them they need to work themselves into the team or sit on the bench.
On a separate note, did you see the one chance Isak had with the ball through to him. I know he didn’t score but that’s where we need to be putting the ball if we want him to show us what he can do..

21st October 2025 at 4:43 pm #228649Its Grav and Szobo for me in the 2 at the min.
Grav might be injured for tomorrow so Jones comes in for me.
Wirtz to the 10.
MacA when back on form starts every important game (the caveat being when the games start coming thick and fast and he may need a break)
I don’t see why the no9 position cant be shared between Isak and Ekitike particularly with Ekitike being in decent form and Isak still getting back to speed. Id imagine eventually one of them will claim the position as their own but again its a long season so theres mins for them both.
I do want to see Chiesa being given more mins but for now Gakpo starts wide left after his performance at the weekend._____________________________

21st October 2025 at 5:16 pm #228652For me Gravenberch and Szoboszlai are more important for the midfield than MacAllister but that doesn’t mean he should be sold. Why can’t we discuss players without someone going overly dramatic?
Anyways we could have Gravenberch, MacAllister and Szoboszlai with Wirtz on the left coming in as a playmaker. Or we go with the diamond with MacAllister alongside Szoboszlai with Grav and Wirtz at opposite tips. Two formations I’ve championed since the summer.
MacAllister has faults like everyone but is very good at tempo control with his one twos. He’s not got the best passing range or the strongest legs however. Have him a little outside the area for quick support inter play would suit him best.

21st October 2025 at 5:37 pm #228655I dont think we’ve paid Salah the massive wages or spent big money on Isak and Ekitike for the plan to be to play the diamond in med/long term.
Maybe after Salah leaves.Personally I think MacA is better further back dictating the tempo and picking passes ahead of him. It’s also helps his lack of pace. Once a player is goal side of him he struggles so I believe playing in the 2 suits him better this way also.

21st October 2025 at 6:06 pm #228658Personally I feel pace and a bit of physicality is needed to play DM. It’s not like a modern DM sits in his own half, they need pace to cover the areas vacated when turned over. Plus he hasnt really the passing range from deep.
Isak and Ekitike would work great in a diamond. All 4 can rotate, with Salah and Gakpo offering more diversity by playing a little wider.
There is no feasible formation that will accomodate Isak, Ekitike, Salah and Wirtz without at least one out of them of position.
