By the time half four rolls around on Sunday we could easily be 5th if those under us all pick up maximum points which could definitely happen with Spurs at home to Villa, City and home to Everton and either Palace or Bournemouth win (play each other). Arsenal could be four points clear too with an away trip to Fulham.
So, three points a must then in a fixture I, of course, along with Everton, dread, more-so too with the way we’re playing atm.
Last season’s fixture still rankles with me as we should have took ’em to the cleaners following four straight wins racking up 16 goals and United on the back of four straight defeats conceding 11. United though just kept doing the same thing, targeting our right side (shock, horror) and fucking Dalot having the game of his life. Dalot!
Who will start this? Depends on who’s relatively rested and fit I guess?
Mama, Bradley, Gomez, VVD, Robbo, Szobo, Grav, Gakpo, Wirtz, Ekitike and Mo is what I’m going for.
Only beaten these once since that 7-0 drubbing 2.5 years ago so going for a DRAW (as I just have no clue whatsoever how we will play).

16th October 2025 at 6:57 am #228248If we play the game in front of them we won’t win, maybe even lose as we as so susceptible to fast transitions. If we can turn them, move them, break their rigid defensive structure then we will win, maybe even handsomely.
We’ve thrown players forward a lot this season but it all seems too static and narrow. They are all just in a line seemingly hoping something falls their way (exception being Ekitike who has shown good movement). I want to see overlaps, overloads, passing options and forming triangles. Stagger the attack, move that defence about.
How do we do that? It might just be a tweak or two tactically or even one or two players upping their game. It could still just be an understanding thing, and not just the new players. Things like when Gravenberch goes forward (as he is doing more this season) then the other midfielder needs to cover. Fullbacks need to get forward but also be aware of being caught put if the ball is turned over. Players knowing where others will go and ensure space, not getting in each others way.
Simple things, I am sure will come good at some point in the season, and what better time than against this lot.

16th October 2025 at 8:29 am #228251Can see that team starting alright Rob with maybe a question mark over Gravenberch after he was withdrawn at halftime in his last game for Holland.
What I do want to see regardless of who starts is intensity, pressing, fast passing, winning duals, hard running.
Doesn’t matter where either team sits in the league with this fixture; its a “derby” game and if you’re not up for it you will get exposed.

16th October 2025 at 11:11 am #228254The hallmark of the most successful managers like Ferguson or Ancelotti is the ability to overcome setbacks and adversity. Thus it’s time for Slot to step up to the plate, and with two weeks off, hopefully he and his team will come up with some solid answers to get us fully back on track.
Β
I’m dropping the off-form Mac Allister until further notice, and playing Szoboszlai in his place. Unless of course, Gravenberch is injured, in which case Mac Allister starts. Also, if KonatΓ© is fit, he starts for me, instead of Gomez. Now let’s absolutely crush them, no excuses.
Mamardashvili
Bradley Gomez Van Dijk Kerkez
Gravenberch Szoboszlai
Salah Wirtz Gakpo

16th October 2025 at 12:36 pm #228260If konate not fit it would not shock me to see grav play as a cb.
Gomez has hardly played and why not bring him on v Chelsea when konate went off and left grav in midfield?
Play a right back at right back. Leave szobo in midfield, macca on bench.
Exactly ginger, we have to win our battles. We didnt at anfield last season. To soft in tackles etc be up for a fight in a derby.
Isak played loads of mins for sweden so i doubt he will start. If he does then eitke from the left. Gakpo has been horrendous or play chiesa from the left
Players are out of form but tactics are killing us aswell. We showed v arsenal we dont have to go absolutely gung ho. Huge few weeks for us but especially slot, isak and writz

16th October 2025 at 1:14 pm #228263Slot said he wanted a CB to be able to be more involved in the build up hence Gravenberch and not Gomez at Chelsea.

16th October 2025 at 1:32 pm #228265“Gakpo has been horrendous”
Totally disagree Sean, based on what exactly? Who got us back into the game at Chelsea? Plus he scored 3 goals and 1 assist in the international break.
For me, he starts on Sunday. Chiesa is better coming off the bench.

16th October 2025 at 1:37 pm #228267If Gomez isnβt selected while Konate is injured (?) then it begs the questionβ¦..why is he still at the club?
I think Gomez is good player when he stays fit as weβve seen previously. However if Slot doesnβt fully trust him (like Chiesa, Endo) then why are they still in the squad.

16th October 2025 at 1:44 pm #228268Who said Slot doesn’t fully trust them?
Gomez, Endo and Chiesa are squad players, and squad players don’t usually/regularly start the biggest games, that is the same with every top team. Squad players are there for a reason, as backup to the main players.
Slot is paid to pick the best team to win matches, like he did with a core regular starting group last season.

16th October 2025 at 2:23 pm #228271Same 11-15 players cant start every league/CL game.
We now have a seasons plus worth of evidence to show that he doesn’t fully trust them.
When given the opportunity to play them he’d rather switch the team round and play others OR over play other players.
His actions speaks volumes.

16th October 2025 at 3:37 pm #228273Im saying it songman as ive been watching gakpo all season having absolutely zero affect on many games.
Constantly cutting back on his right foot, invisible for lots of times in the majority of games.
Ginger, im not saying that will happen with gomez but just wouldnβt surprise mr

16th October 2025 at 5:06 pm #228275Pretty sure if Guehi signed Gomez would have been off to Milan. He’s needed as a squad player for now but I think it’s clear he doesn’t fit long term into Slots plans.

Produce the evidence then, provide facts comparing us to other teams in percentage utilisation of squad players over at least one season.
Slot fully trusts his squad players, otherwise he’d have sold them long ago. Every team has squad players, that is an indisputable fact.

Oh yes they can. Slot won the PL last season at his first attempt, using this strategy, in the PL at least.

Get real, what about the goal at Chelsea, or against Bournemouth then? That is having a big impact on the game, especially the equaliser against Chelsea.

16th October 2025 at 6:18 pm #228279Thats two games out of 9 for gakpo songman
Hes been invisible for 70% of his game time. Hes been as poor as salah.
On slot not trusting players just look at elliot, endo game time last year.
We have 3 right backs yet szobo is pmating there in large parts if games
Even slot said he didnt use endo enough.

16th October 2025 at 8:10 pm #228280The evidence is in their lack of playing time over the last 12+ mths even when there was plenty of opportunities to play them.
Instead Slot has played others out of position.
Even when players are injured, knackered or out of form they play very few if any mins.Actions speak louder than words.
