Welcome to Florian Wirtz, I hope he will be a big success and help win us the PL and CL as soon as possible.
He certainly comes with elite stats, for a playmaker, of 34 goals and 35 assists in two seasons, and is widely regarded as the best player in Bundesliga, winning VDV Bundesliga Player of the Season twice in a row.
But my main concerns are whether he can live up to his huge price tag and if he can cope with the pace, physicality and rough and tumble of the Premier League. Also, he gets injured about 3 or 4 times per season, so that will have to be managed well.
But, at Liverpool he will be playing with much better players, and a much better manager, and this should take his game up to a whole new level. Thatβs the plan anyway.

21st June 2025 at 8:33 pm #220340Regarding Isak, the main problem is that he is injury-prone and would cost far too much.
Compare him to Julian Alvarez, for example, he’s only missed one game through injury in the past 3 seasons, that’s the kind of robustness we need.

21st June 2025 at 8:40 pm #220343It’s not just the time off thats a concern, its that Newcastle protected him by allowing him not to track back I assume to protect him from potential injury. With Salah not tracking back like he once did I am not sure we can afford two players ignoring the defensive side of the game.
Alvarez every time for me, but not looking likely. It isnt just that his missus hates England, more that he wants a longer shot at proving himself in Spain as only been there one year. Might happen but difficult.

21st June 2025 at 9:57 pm #220346100% Gents on your thoughts. I do like Isak, but I don’t think he’s worth going beyond the extra mile for the sort of figures quoted and his injury history.
I appreciate Newcastle being protective so that’s cool and we can try somewhere else.
Love Alvarez if we could get him and send Darwin the other way!! π

22nd June 2025 at 6:52 am #220356With Isak there a hefty premium for knowing heβs comfortable in the UK and Premier League. Some of the other contenders have question marks over character or competence. Anyway, I think we are worrying about nothing as I donβt think Newcastle will sell.

22nd June 2025 at 8:57 am #220357It seems as though the funds are there to splash further so we can always look elsewhere beyond Isak which I’m sure we will.

22nd June 2025 at 10:06 am #220358It might be we don’t buy a no 9 at all but instead look at someone that can play across the entire front 3. There’s no value in the striker market currently.
It’s going to be interesting how Slot sets the team up. If we went with 1 defensive or playmaker type full back it could have been as you were from last season. But he didn’t, he went with 2 that you want high and wide. So something has to give further forward or you’re a man down building from the back.
I’ve mentioned before the LW could be sacrificed for Wirtz to play left sided no 10 but that depends on getting a top no 9 in. If we don’t we could play Wirtz behind two wide attackers in Salah and Diaz/Gakpo and get someone in with l potential to cover both those positions.
Ali
Konate Grav VvD
Frimpong. Kerkez
Szoboszlai MacAllister
Wirtz
Salah. DiazWhen attacking Grav moves to the DM position amd Frimpong/Bradley and Kerkez bomb forward.

22nd June 2025 at 10:52 am #220359Good point 3ps on the set up. I’m really encouraged about what Kerkez could bring for us from the left side.
I read a few weeks ago apparently Darwin boarding on the wrong plane or flight. I think it would be good to get him settled somewhere and try and claw back the money that was spent on him. Elliot likewise which I believe we’ve placed a region of 40m.
Striker-wise is a risk when buying from abroad then trying to settle him as opposed to somebody with PL experience.
Always good to have alternative formation options. There are teams under Klopp where we struggled when they set up as a low block. We don’t want to be too predictable so that opposing teams suss us easily.

22nd June 2025 at 10:32 pm #220402Migrating my thoughts over from back in March on TT, to hold myself to it.
So far itβs a 9/10 window. (Last season 0/10 for the record). Need some more CBs and a striker. Stiller would be icing on the cake.
And if course, we need to squeeze out some cash from NuΓ±ez.Out: taa (done), gomez, tsimikas
In: Kerkezc (done), Hato, Huijsen (lost that one), Frimpong (done)
Contract extensions: Vvd (done), Konate (come on now!)
Leaves us with two good alternatives per position. Just what we need to rotate. Vvd, robbo likely leaving a season later (if not now).Midfield:
Endo out, perhaps Morton too
Stiller in, move up Nyoni/McConnell
Attack
Nunez, Jota, Chiesa out
Simons (got even better with Wirtz!!), Alvarez in. doak back._____________________________

22nd June 2025 at 10:32 pm #22040340 mil rumoured for Harvey Elliot with Brighton expressing their interest. Now although to some this may seem a lot; Harvey is 22 with Prem Experience so if anything, this could be a good fit and of course, a very good sale if an agreement can be reached.
Let’s Hope π

23rd June 2025 at 12:41 am #220404Valid Points Macca on CB’s. Reportedly from tonight’s update Guehi wants out. It’s a chicken-egg scenario waiting on whether Konate agrees a new deal and if not, then it an exit for him.
Realistically, we have to think layers beyond core essentially for the purpose of injuries, squad rotation/management if we are to throw ourselves in all 4 competitions. If we can add finding somebody suitable that won’t break the bank that we can work on and develop, it’s another way forward.

25th June 2025 at 8:23 am #220433Guehi is a top notch defender who represents a good upgrade on current Quansa. BUT he plays on the left side normally so is unlikely to be a replacement for Konate.

25th June 2025 at 8:46 am #220458I think one thing that attracts Liverpool to Guehi is he is versatile, in that he can play both LCB and RCB or even a wide CB in a back 3 (like when Grav drops into the back whilst in possesion).
It’s still early days regarding Konate and I’m still hopeful something can be worked out. Apparently he’s on 70k and a centre back of his standing should be on double as a basic wage in my opinion. Of course no idea what he is actually demanding.

25th June 2025 at 3:25 pm #220474I’m a little bit to one-side with this Konate wage thing. Is he holding out for as much as he can get? I don’t know.
Guehi as far as I’ve read from one report suggest to me that his bags are packed for us.

25th June 2025 at 11:38 pm #220500Many Happy Returns Jamie; 25-06-73 – 22 in 1995 and now 52.
Obviously in his career, sadly plagued with injuries, but above all, high up there as a First Class Professional Above All.

26th June 2025 at 10:19 am #220510Happy for Guehi to be 3rd choice/challenging, highly likely to be any grade on Quansah, but I donβt think heβs an able replacement for Konate.

26th June 2025 at 11:24 am #220513If I take off my lfc goggles, Guehi in my view could remain at Palace, but then the question can be asked as to what he wants out of his profession??
If he signs for Lfc I believe Slot this time round will try and rotate the squad more.
He’ll definitely get game time like CL and of course, he’ll be on more money etc.β½οΈβ½οΈ
