Diaz has the ability to go down the byline, something we have missed this season, do you really consider Gakpo and Diaz on equal footing? Diaz also opened up the space that Gakpo worked last season, Diaz is a much more clinical player mate and complete player than Gakpo will ever be. Did you not watch them play mate?

@threeps No he’s not, he is told to play like that. Hate to be the one that breaks it to you but Slots tactic is “tippy tappy”. Again this just shows how you are very much a “blame the players ” person. You still can’t see how Slot’s decisions is affecting them can you?

Is wirtz told to turn away and then do a shitty back heel when theres a chance to run in the box to score or slide it across for a tap in at back post? Is wirtz told not to lift the ball more than 1 yard? or misplace his passes to the other team? Or do tippy tappy 1 touch passes? Is konate told to duck from headers, act like a pussy in a physical battle, rash challenges… is kerkez informed by the manager to make sure his crosses dont get past the first man? Use the ball like its a hot potatoe?

I guess i dont have the football acumen that you possess, so respect to you! But i try to say it how i see it… I believe we are missing key parts to play slots football… ive mentioned already a few times, but you were questioning my sanity of money spent in the summer and why the need to spend more? We can only revisit this when the season ends and if we can obtain the players that we need.

Sure Wirtz did not have a good game, no one did, but hasn’t he had 5 motm from the last 7 games or something? You can see in the last couple of games how Slot hamstrings Wirtz, giving him freedom to impose his creativity in the first half then restricting him in the second. This isn’t Wirtz thinking he can’t be arsed or something, the whole teams drops a gear and invites pressure in the second, and players like Wirtz are constrained positionally. That’s “Slotball” that you seem happy with.

Konate think everyone will agree is a liability and his head hasn’t been right all season. Last season he had many good games so he can do it when fully focused.

Kerkez has played most of the season as an inverting fullback which is completely not his style. This is why I questioned the purchase (and Frimpong) as Slotball doesn’t include fast transitions. He should of bought Hincapie or Hato if he wanted an inverter.

But I think we all agree that players should be performing better but a lot is down to tactics. When a player knows exactly what to do, where his team mates are, where they will run etc, they need less time to think and can play more confidently their own game. Their confidence increases and that then turns into being confident to try and succeed with more risky plays.

We’ve all played pool right? When you are confident, in the zone, you feel great and you try and often succeed with difficult shots. I know I did. But I used to sometimes get frustrated too and then it seems even the simplest shot is too difficult which then increases the frustrations. I would normally try and push myself to be better rsther than relax which had a negative effect. Same when I (seldom) played golf or any other sport I did.

Tactics depend on personnel, we have the makings of a solid team but We’ve had injuries to important players for the past few months, our whole right side has been missing to some extent, from suspensions to injuries or afcon… bradley and frimpong are back with just salah missing from the right side of the team. Frimpongs already making an impression… need salah to put fear back in the opposition, running in behind and stretching play.. always an outlet for VVD diagonal balls!

Obviously we are also missing isak, but i believe ekitike can step up to be the key player in attack… gakpos back hopefully he cant be as bad as he was in the first half of the season!

Yes football is there to entertain, unfortunately its also a results driven business and sometimes you have to endure change for the better. I believe We were playing decent football, no better or worse compared to last season… up until the last international break… since man city we’ve unfortunately gone a bit downhill for entertainment but ive mentioned why.. no key right sided players and gakpo missing.

On the positive side wirtz has been decent up until the last game, works hard and has got 2 goals(the own goal is still his imo). Kerkez is mince… you know it.. you can try and cover it with “tactics” all day but hes been brutal!

On to form, weve accrued 15pts from the last 7 games. Yes we could have done better… but its not the end of the world.

A few posters were screaming to go back to basics and stop being open.. and to an extent weve done that by sacrificing some attacking play. Its set us up for building confidence and keeping up pace for top 4 which is essential… whilst players are adapting to tactics, building chemistry, fitness, etc.

Obviously slots been shite at maximising the use of the squad… by not utilising rio, endo and chiesa… only he knows the reasons but if theyre not part pf the plans they need to be moved on!

Threeps do you think konates and kerkezs fuckups have at least cost us 8-10 points?

I think they have and that is one of the key factors of why we are not challenging this season… as well as arsenal stepping up and same with city. You do know they spent a silly amount in the past 2 windows to get to where they are? Kudos to em… donnaruma, cherki, zubimendi, reijnders and eze have been brilliant for them.

Roll on January and hopefully we get a win against Fulham… cus if we dont im gonna go into hiding!

I don’t know if this actually even exists but from my observation, I would notice and out side left and an inside left so this would alternate between a full-back and a natural left-sided player. I’m sure we have employed this.

It looks however the way we are now positioned, we’re seemingly more narrow. I don’t see a lot of movement too off the ball albeit when on the counter.

We’re narrower because the fullbacks frequently invert particularly down the left.
This kills the space for the wide attackers.

ginger its about the ability to get to the byline, something Gakpo has never done for us and if anything Diaz is two footed, his crosses from his left foot are not as forced as Gakpo´s. We sold the wrong player last summer

Diaz is naturally right footed.
The vast majority of his goals are scored from the right foot.
He frequently cut in from the left.
That’s what a Diaz goal looked like.
His game wasn’t attacking the byline.
I’ve no idea what player you were watching.

We no longer provide the space for our wide attackers to do that particularly from the left.

Mate you have no idea lol, you are talking about Gakpo, who only scores from cutting inside on his right foot, never delivers the ball to the overlapping fullback, hardly ever puts in a cross and never makes it to the byline.

Diaz was all over the place, nobody could stop him on the left flank where he excelled. He gave us so much more than Gakpo.

I think the by-line would have been an alternative outlet used when it’s sort of packed with players around the preferred 6 yard area. We have used in the past of course to put crosses in.

Players for this type of scenario have been used as an overlap, but yeah, there’s been more of a Tendency to cut inside, ala Diaz and Gakpo.

Nil, Kerkez gets into those positions all the time, Gakpo just never passes the ball to him, he always cuts in and tries to take the shot. One of the most one dimensional forwards we have had at the club for a very long time.

You stated regarding our play last year…..

Not only have we not had a left footed left winger for many seasons now, the 2 left sided attackers we did employ there last season (both right footed) didn’t dribble down the left wing as their main pattern of play.
Both players mainly cut in onto their stronger foot.

Once again, I have no idea what players you were watching last season.
