Another ‘must win’? You bet! With the number of idiotic points we’ve dropped every game now until May is a ‘must win.’
Bit worried about this game though for a couple of reasons. 1. Leeds recent form – unbeaten for a month and the two games prior to that run they were narrowly beaten to two late goals, away at City and at home to Villa. 2. Set pieces – they good at scoring from ’em and we are absolutely shit at defending them. Leeds are top of set piece conversion league and we are rock bottom not just in England but across ALL five top leagues. Can’t wrap my head around that. The worst at defending set pieces out of NINETY SIX teams. Jesus H Christ. We’re very good at talking about fixing issues but don’t actually translate it to the game itself so expecting the Stach/Calvert Lewin dynamic to take full advantage of probably one of the worst stats I’ve ever seen.
Who will start? A couple of rotations I think.
Alisson, Bradley, Konate, VVD, Robbo, Grav, Jones, Szobo, Gakpo, Wirtz and Ekitike is my pick.
We really do need three points as I can see home wins for Chelsea and United which would take both of them above us and Villa could drop points at Arsenal so a win could edge is nearer to them. Personally, with the way the team is this season my focus is more the gap between fourth and fifth.
Leeds are missing three key players including one of their defensive stalwarts in Rodon (James, not the band, and Longstaff are also out of commission). Despite this I do think Leeds will get something out of this game. We ‘should’ win it, but Leeds will force the ball out wide and whip in crosses, Calvert Lewin will target Konate who will then cack his kecks and they will win a few dead balls and expect one or two to find their way in leaving another bemused van Dijk with arms outstretched contemplating his next media statement that they will fix it.

30th December 2025 at 2:37 pm #235012This really will be I believe the definitive month that shapes our season to make or break.
This will be our first football match in the new Calendar Year followed by a series of fixtures from the competitions we will be involved in aside the League:
– 1st Jan – LEEDS UNITED – Home (Thursday 5:30pm)
– 4th Jan – Fulham – Away – (Sunday 3pm)
– 8th Jan – Arsenal – Away (Thursday 8pm)
– 12th Jan – BARNSLEY – Home (Monday 7:45pm) FA CUP
– 17th Jan – BURNLEY – Home (Saturday 3pm)
– 21st Jan – Marseille – Away (Wednesday 8pm) CL
– 24th Jan – Bournemouth – Away (Saturday 5:30pm)
– 28th Jan – QARABAG – Home – (Wednesday 8pm) CL
– 31st Jan – NEWCASTLE – Home – (Saturday 8pm)Encouragingly, players that have been out targeted for a January return will of course bolster our squad. A wild goose chase, but even bringing one new face in January could also give us the boost we need.
This really is going to be a Solid Test. Can we even come out of through the other side as fans?!
This really will be about handling the pressure, intensity and physicality each opposition will bring, but the purpose in trying to frustrate us. Decisions going for and against, but the one thing we really must endeavour is to play for each other and going above and beyond. EVERYBODY 1-11 on the Pitch will need to do their bit to restore, pride, passion, resilience, drive, determination and PROGRESS.
One Hurdle At A Time.

30th December 2025 at 9:12 pm #235029Huge ask on the back of tonight’s matches both teams beneath us remain where they are on the scoresheet and drop points.
We can’t afford to fluff any lines on our own soil Thursday because we could potentially go clear of 5 points and create breathing space with the same amount of games played.

30th December 2025 at 10:04 pm #235042Nil, perfect results tonight. Can’t cock it up Thursday.
Btw, you can add Forest to the same list as Palace when it comes to teams everyone else beats except us.

30th December 2025 at 10:10 pm #235046If that isn’t a Gateway to surge on, I don’t know what else. Forget about Arsenal. Title is between them and City (should they win on Thursday)
We can catch Villa if we put on a RUN!!

31st December 2025 at 8:57 am #235064We’ve just got to win this game against this tough, nasty opponent.
We need total focus to control the game from start to finish, and get a clean sheet also, we are at Anfield and have the quality, so let’s exploit this to the maximum.
Now let’s do it.
Alisson
Bradley Konaté Van Dijk Kerkez
Gravenberch Jones
Szoboszlai Wirtz Gakpo
Ekitike-

31st December 2025 at 10:35 am #235076As Rob rightly points out Leeds are very good at scoring from set pieces whereas we are terrible at defending them.
Leeds also fight right to the last whistle while we have too many players that struggle to play the full 90 and/or cramp up before the final whistle.
We’re also known for having poor 2nd half’s.Hopefully our quality sees us through although that’s not given.
We should be beating the 16th placed team at Anfield handy enough but as we seen v Wolves that’s not the case at the minute.

31st December 2025 at 12:08 pm #235084<<This really will be I believe the definitive month that shapes our season to make or break.>> But will it really….I’ve got my doubts. In terms of the league, we’re sitting in the 4th (of maybe 5) CL places. With the best will in the world, I can’t see us overhauling both of the Top 2 – and maybe not even Villa – but below us is a swathe of mediocrity, so even if we have a poor(ish) January in the PL, I can still see us having enough to get into a CL spot by May. As regards the CL fixtures, we are already virtually guaranteed a top 24 place and you only have to cast your mind back to last year, where we finished first and PSG finished 15th and we all know what happened after that. As for the FA Cup, yes, would be a big upset if we were to lose to Barnsley at home, but on the assumption that we progress, it’s still not going to categorically define our chances of winning it.
So, whilst I can see where you’re coming from with your statement, a good or a bad January is only going to improve / worsen the general mood around the place. Of course, we all want the former, but within our realistic objectives for this season as we hit the half-way point, a bad January could easily be turned around by a good February i.e. not necessarily make or break.

31st December 2025 at 1:05 pm #235091Red, i cant see us beating fulham and arsenal . I think we will lose both
Results, like the start of tye season have papered over some absolutely shambolic moments in games.

31st December 2025 at 1:25 pm #235093As I said weeks ago January is a crazy month in terms of fixtures.
We’re currently sitting 4th and tomorrow’s game isn’t gonna get us any higher up the table. However a bad run in Jan can certainly drop us down the table very quickly.
We need positive results in the CL games this month or else we face more CL fixtures in February.
I havnt been impressed with Slots squad management since he arrived.
This month we play a game basically every 3/4 days.
Recently we’ve been playing 1 game a week and still players can’t complete the 90 and/or are cramping up so it should be interesting how they get through this month. However we have shown in one off games we can put into good performances against very good teams e.g v Arsenal or Inter away.
But this is the problem, the inconsistency of performances.I expect us to get the win tomorrow night but it’s the run of games that’s concerns me and how Slot is gonna manage that.
We need reinforcements in Jan and early.
Players that Slot actually wants to use._____________________________

31st December 2025 at 2:36 pm #235098I’ve been impressed with Villa in how they break forward, be it a press or counter. Their passing which is forward than sidewards and in small stages with accuracy. This reminds me of our side under Jurgen.
Part of Villa’s progress though reminds me a little of us under Rodgers and Mignolet. Martinez somewhat has shown his vulnerable side.
A lot of fans I have picked up from the vibe online is that they don’t appreciate Arsenal’s style and approach to inflicting goals from set-pieces. Villa effectively folded over once the 2nd goal was in and it showed vividly their area of weaknesses.
We need to be resilient tomorrow. Don’t let any goals in, then USE that as a small stepping stone to take into Fulham and try and achieve the same. I would gladly take a 0-0 out of the Emirates with a resolute performance and use that for the next game.
This is how we need to approach and apply ourselves and even though obviously I want 3 points, I just want us to go through a solid 20+ games in the League Undefeated.

1st January 2026 at 4:27 pm #235149MacA rightly dropped IMO.
Also we can’t keep playing all our midfielders when we play a game every 3/4 games.

Be nice if we could get this wrapped up first half; or at least within the hour.

1st January 2026 at 4:59 pm #235155I benched C-Lewin for principle on my FF Team. There is no way he’s scoring against us. I’m sure he’ll get his game time in the second half.
Clean Sheet would be grrrrrreat! 🙂 A Win however would be the Best kicking off 2026.
