It is the system 3ps, you’re right. What formation is Wirtz suited to? 4-3-3, 4-4-4-2? We just haven’t seen his best fit so far unfortunately.

24th November 2025 at 3:23 pm #2311774231 with Wirtz as the 10 but we don’t have sufficient protection in behind so it wouldn’t work. Nothing is working right now.

24th November 2025 at 3:51 pm #231182Not just about thr formation Nil that’s only a small part of a system. It’s how thr others make space, create options etc. At moment the two midfielders are surging forward meaning everyone is in a line and there’s no angles for through balls. This is exaggerated by the slow tippy tappy passing. Often having a backwards pass on can open up something forwards, especially if the passing is fast and precise.
Would like to point out Klopp also went through a similar style towards the end and we struggled then too, not as bad but it was still poor. Players need space and options.

24th November 2025 at 4:04 pm #231187Adding to that, there’s just rarely movement from other players to offer the option of link up play and support in numbers. They’re easily marked.
I don’t think we win that many duals as well these days.

24th November 2025 at 4:58 pm #231193Well Klopp did turn away from that the last few years of his tenure. But I think the Anfield crowd energises with high intensity football and Klopp captured that perfectly early on. I don’t think slow possession football suits us as a fan base.
But a moot point, Klopp won’t come back. But maybe Iraola whose team has a large amount of fast transitions will be suitable?

24th November 2025 at 6:28 pm #231200Surprising Slot is struggling to get the team going again in some ways as although he lacks the infectiousness of Klopp, he still has a charisma about him. Someone made the very good point that this is the first crisis Slot has had to deal with in his managerial career, so that lack of experience to get a team back on track is clearly showing. Not got long to sort it out if he’s to salvage anything.

25th November 2025 at 11:34 am #231313Found this on X by a fan of ours:
“I figured it out.
– Slot sacked in the next month
– Klopp coming back as an interim manager to setup everything for Nagelsmann
– Klopp taking over at Germany in September, Nagelsmann going to Liverpool in July 2026”_____________________________

25th November 2025 at 12:29 pm #231319Mikus, this season has shades of Benitez final season. Luck not on our side(that season even had a goal via a ballon thrown on by a kid), injuries, daft decisions against us, confidence rock bottom, plugging holes due to of form players or injuries thus unbalancing the whole team, etc.
Im still supportive of the manager, but having watched the forest game im left scratching my head, we have such a soft underbelly… any half chance or set piece from the opposition and i feel we will concede! Ive not felt like this for sometime and its getting to the “David James” of 1999 period, where any cross led to a goal.

25th November 2025 at 12:40 pm #231320Klopp has been by favourite manager of all time with what he did at Liverpool! But he had difficult periods(20-21, first of half 2021, 2022-23) and sadly, the same fans that wanted him out are now clamouring for his return.
I remember klopps final season where were top after playing arsenal and man city… and we capitulated with 10 games to go with a semi easy run… i loved klopp, the man, his football, his energy… but we could end up with dalglishs return in 2010-11 and having so called fans tarring his reputation if things go bad. Thats the kind of thing that would make me move away from football… the geordies did that to bobby robson, absolutely broke my heart! Will let the senior figures deal with slot, but in the meantime slot, the players and lfc have my full support.

25th November 2025 at 1:05 pm #231322We are still within 3 points of 4th place but I think the next 4 games are crucial. If we continue our run of form against West Ham, Sunderland, Leeds and Brighton then I think they’ll have to make a change. We simply can’t afford to not be in the Champions League next year.
As for Klopp. Conflicted, heart says I’d love him to come back. Head says teams have only had prolonged success when the manager has stayed in post. Realistically I can’t see Klopp wanting another long term stint, even if he did come back (which seems very unlikely).
One thing nobody has commented on is Slot is out of contract in 18 months, so whilst it wouldn’t be cost-free to sack him, it certainly won’t be as painful as some departures are. I hope he turns it round, but he’s running out of time. We regularly won early in the season when we didn’t deserve to, now we aren’t winning at all. He needs to find a way of securing 3 points each week, the pretty stuff can wait.

25th November 2025 at 1:32 pm #231327Asian, the problem is though compared to Benitez’s last season, we spent big over summer and have got worse. Whilst Slot should undoubtedly be doing a lot better I do wonder how harmonious the transfer strategy was over summer with him and the recruitment team. From what I understand, after Klopp wrestled for and seemingly got control over transfers towards the end of his tenure, I think when Slot came in the understanding was the new recruitment team would retake control leaving Slot not as manager but coach.

25th November 2025 at 1:56 pm #231331Hughes is Slots boss and makes the decision. Hughes boss is Edwards and he left the club because Klopp had too much power and only came back once Klopp announced he would leave.
Why would he let him back?

25th November 2025 at 2:00 pm #231334Mcclad, yes this can be turned around and I bottom of my heart want it turned around and don’t want to be the guy that wants us to lose so the Manager is dismissed.
But something needs to need change: E.g does John Heitinga come in and Giovanni Van Bronckhorst leave??? Richard Hughes I believe is the man to make these decisions.
Coaching, tactics are absolutely abysmal, it’s a low. We need to win duals, take authority on aerial encounters be it set pieces or regular open play.
Why were we resilient last year keeping clean sheets? Maybe as Mikus in other posts rightly pointed out, our forward line supplemented with press and goals wallpapering underlying cracks.
We have Top Top Players which is the ultimate headscratcher for the millions spent last summer. Change the Formation, drop players and select players who will fight tooth and nail for the Badge.

25th November 2025 at 6:38 pm #231347Mcclad, we spent big… but we also sold big…and it was time to spend some money in the window since weve spent fuckall in 3 prior windows! We got rid of deadwood and bought in some great players. Unfortunately most have been injured and in and out of the team! Give them time… we can talk about the value of the team in the future. Once tsimikas, endo and elliot are sold + the winnings of the prem.. we would probably have broken even.
would we all be complaining one way or another if we bought fuckall and were in the same position? I’ll have a guess.. we would!

26th November 2025 at 10:38 am #231385Adidas20 “Klopp would easily transform Wirtz into a top top player.”
Based on what exactly?
I personally think Klopp wouldn’t have made much difference, after all he couldn’t even figure out where to deploy Gravenberch effectively, until Slot came in, and used him properly to devastating effect, winning us the league title against all odds.
Wirtz is already a top player, look at his stats in the Bundesliga, but as I said it several times in the summer before we signed him “Young German players struggle in the PL, and only Havertz has been any semblence of a success.”
Just like with Isak, whom I didn’t want at all, I issued this caution about Wirtz, several times before we even signed him, and now look what’s happened.

Ilkay Gündoğan – 25–32
Mesut Özil – 24–32
Leroy Sané – 20–24
Robert Huth – 17–34
Antonio Rüdiger – 24–29Probably throw in Can and Schürrle too
A little older but still did very well:
Per Mertesacker – 26–33
Michael Ballack – 29–33_____________________________

26th November 2025 at 1:55 pm #231400Yes Threeps, I’ve thrown that list at Song before. You could also add Lehmann, Ziege (injuries hit him but was quality), Klinsmann and our own Didi Hamann to that list too.

26th November 2025 at 7:37 pm #231430Totally misunderstood the facts I presented.
I raised my concerns about Young German players (NOT all German players) struggling to adapt to the Premier League, and so far, on Wirtz, I have been proved to be absolutely spot on. The only exceptions are Havertz and Sane (as indicated by threeps).
So tell me how well, exactly, has Wirtz adapted to the Premier League, considering he was the league’s most expensive signing? And if you are the league’s expensive player, then it is absolutely logical to expect far more than he has delivered, so far.

26th November 2025 at 7:55 pm #231431Songman, ever thought why a player isnt delivering? Have you noticed that no one bar Szlob are playing well and the set up totatly negates Wirtz’s quality?
No? Must be because he is German, that’s it! So simple, why didn’t Hughes and the scouts pick this up?
