He changed from a back three to a back four Sympathy, that was basically it mate. The hard part will come when he has to carpet some of these average bums next season, because I don’t think he’s got that kind of hard nosed character required to manage underperformers.

22nd May 2026 at 1:25 pm #246753Bruno had 7 assists before Carrick came in so he’s done a lot more than just switch from 3 at the back. Mainoo looks a player and there’s a much more coherent attacking unit up top too. I do worry about the amount of chances we give up and goals we concede though. Generally if we’re scoring 3 goals every game its ok like against Forest but its hard to win anything unless you can string clean sheets together week after week.
Need that midfield destroyer in there – and a new defence…._____________________________

22nd May 2026 at 2:49 pm #246758Happy we got away with the forest game because Forest had nothing to play for, you have said it yourself we give away too many chances to the opposition and Carrick has had over 5months to plug that hole. His decision to reinstate Martinez when Hayden has done so well makes no sense especially as the season is practically over and Hayden needs the game time to further his improvement.
And the Coherent attacking Unit you mention is just Bruno, Cunha and Sesko for me neither Amad nor Mbeumo has done anything Coherent since January. We don’t have any semblance of tactical shape both attacking or defending.

22nd May 2026 at 5:00 pm #246773Could Carrick really have done much more in a short period?

22nd May 2026 at 6:52 pm #246778Take no notice of happy, he’s a rose tinted half wit. We’ve scraped every win we’ve had since Carrick came in, and have usually been outplayed. Truth is, the only notable results have been against teams who’ve been expected to beat us. Amad backwards, Mbeumo backwards, Cunha backwards, and Mainoo just about forwards. Other than that and a flat back four, no change. No new discernible style of play, same old team selections and substitutions that might as well have been Amorim. And no charisma, the guy is characterless and uninspiring.

22nd May 2026 at 7:57 pm #246780I posted my thoughts about Carrick on another thread so won’t repeat myself.
MUFC, probably not. I assume his remit when he took the role was to finish as high as possible in the league.
Style of play etc came second to results. However now that he’s got the job. That changes. I feel that we’re not to dissimilar to Arsenal a few seasons back (first 11 depending on signings should be ok ) the real issue is the lack of quality in the squad, if we don’t create more competition and add quality into the squad, he’ll struggle._____________________________

22nd May 2026 at 8:21 pm #246781Diggy it’s the manager’s job to create such competition within the squad and Except for Bruno, Sesko and Lammens the rest of the other positions should be up for grabs for anyone who wants it badly enough to take it regardless of the player’s age.
I am hoping Cartick does indeed succeed because we the fans deserve some consistent joy but from his first 5months i am
Not super confident in him._____________________________

22nd May 2026 at 9:05 pm #246782Dee, competition for places, let’s be honest there isn’t any. Apart from Mbeumo and Amad, maybe the centre backs when everyone is fit.
Shaw and Dalot know they’ll play, ditto midfield. Plus Sesko.
I understand where your coming from but the squad players either aren’t good enough or are crocks like Mount._____________________________

23rd May 2026 at 9:43 am #246799I’m not saying Carrick is going to win us the treble or anything JM, but he has done a lot more with those players than you’ve given him credit for. The confidence he’s instilled in them is literally the opposite of what Amorim was doing. They had to give him the job based on what he’s done since he came in because there’s no way anyone expected him to get those results. But the 2-year contract the club have given him indicates that they are also unsure about his long term suitability. I’d say he’ll do alright next season but, like Ole, will just fail to get over the line at the important times. Then when a top manager is available the year after he’ll come in and be expected to win the league.
There was something great about Rooney interviewing Carrick at Carrington as the new United manager though – i think most people would agree on that at least! 🙂

23rd May 2026 at 10:32 am #246805I’m not sure Carrick was the first choice but, apart from Iraola (who’s also relatively untested at a big club) and Glasner (whose temperament is questionable recently) no-one else we’d want is available. Enrique is on the verge of signing a new deal at PSG, all the international coaches are committed to their jobs in the medium to long term. Do we want Pochettino? Not available until July at least. There’s also Fabregas but he’s onto a winner at Como at the moment and he’s also a part owner of the club. Given the need for stability in this window I think we were left with no other choice. He’s got a two year deal and you would hope there’s get out clauses based on not getting into the CL etc.

4th June 2026 at 10:54 am #248040It would be nice if these Bloomberg reports about several of the gimps wanting to sell their stake in the club had legs. I guess we’ll see in the coming days/weeks.
