There’s an interesting trend emerging this season. City and Chelsea look better than ever and yet neither have a striker. I’m obviously referring to the period in which Lukaku has been injured.

Liverpool didn’t really have a traditional striker when they won the league either. For all the “imagine if they had a striker” comments, I can’t help wondering if they’re as good as they are because of this fact rather than in spite of it.

I think with the pressing nature of football now, every single player has to press as hard as each other. You can’t have any passengers. And no.9s tend to be selfish and aren’t accustomed to dropping deep to help the team.

Ed I completely agree bud, every defender would prefer that no.9 to be able to focus on, fluid front 3 attacks pull you all over the place. As a team we have looked better without lukaku imo with havertz linking it all together wonderfully at times.

Not to say we couldn’t do with a fit lukaku but we weren’t creating as many chances with him in the side and be interesting to see how it develops when he is back.

Ed, possibly the modern day forward has to be more than just a goal scorer, I’ve always tried to instil the belief in forwards I’ve trained that with the ball they’re a centre forward without it they’re the first defender, what we’re seeing now is three players doing that………Pagan

It was a good goal by Kante, but the space he had and the casual jogging back of the Leicester players was criminal. Outrageous considering the money these players are on.
