Thanks to Klopp and Edwards, we’ve gained a lot of ground of them, financially. We came very close to pipping Utd’s revenue when historically we were a joke compared tot hem. Now, the CL money I think inflated that more than it would otherwise be, so we’re still a good bit behind…
Nine, we did I think have a higher wage budget than some of the others I think alright. We pay an extremely high percentage of our revenue though to get there. Also, as Sean was saying, our wage structure couldnt take a superstars wage. We have a lot of BIG players who (as Sean also said) have done big things here and our salary budget has been more spread out than at a lot of other clubs. A superstar coming in, would mean bumping up more than 1-2 players.
Now, who knows, maybe this new batch of contracts will adjust for the possibility of having a mega-earner ahead of the others but they’d only put that in for either Salah, or MBappe and MBappe is going to Real. If he doesn’t, then Salah will be.

Sean, i still won’t rule out Liverpool for the title but that doesnt mean Im totally happy with how FSG have run things the last 2 summers. I used to sing their praises and look, they are responsible for our CL and PL wins. My issue is that they don’t seem to want to win them again, badly enough.
Was it yourself who suggested that maybe they are being purposefully withholding, in order to make the point to the fans that the ESL could have helped paid for transfers?
Whoever said it might have had a point. There would be value in doing this, bringing fans onto their side… I don’t think they’d ever do anything out of spite, they arent morons.

Nil, they weren’t balance sheets they were the audited figures of the top 6 Clubs wage bills for the 2019/20 season the last season available to accurately measure Clubs expenditure on wages which counter Sean’s claim that Liverpool can’t compete with City, United and Chelsea on wages which for the 2019/20 season confirmed that wasn’t the case.
I could have posted about the weather on the Game week thread but I did at least manage to keep it football related.😊
But you’re right let’s get back to the Game week 4 some big games coming up and likely the home debuts of Ronaldo and Lukaku plenty to look forward to after the international break.

But my point is we can’t go Compete with giving individuals 350k or 480k a week nine like the others. We won’t break our pay structure to get individuals to come which is clear in my previous post .

Sean, very few Clubs could pay what United are paying Ronaldo but they’ve seen their share value rise by circa £250m on the back of his signing.
I’m not sure anyone apart from those involved know what Lukaku is earning I’ve seen it quoted at circa £200k up to £450k it’s all pure speculation at the moment.
The wage bills of the top 6 Clubs I posted for the 2019/20 season are factual mate and confirm in the 2019/20 season Liverpool had the second highest wage bill in the PL if you’re not prepared to accept that we’ll just have to leave it there. Cheers 9’s

Last thing that’s 2019/2020Have you the most up to date figures since chelsea added about 8 players since then?
I’d say Thiago silva for a 36 year old I’d on big money.

Sean, the problem was we were debating fact v speculation as I confirmed previously 2019/20 are the last figures available from the Club’s re wages but Liverpool’s wage bill will have increased this season based on the higher wage new contracts offered out but we won’t know where anyone sits re this season for a couple of years we’ve yet to see last season’s wages table.
Liverpool have an investor ownership model which I both “understand” and accept is different to City, United and Chelsea.
Be interesting to see what transpires with Salah if his wage demand is accurate VVD is allegedly Liverpool’s highest paid player on £220k pw and seemingly Salah wants considerably more than that?

I’ll be absolutely amazed if we pay him that. Get him out if he is trying to hold the club to ransom. That’s always been my opinion about players no matter who they are.

I am not sure why we all get flustered over transfer fees and wages, it is all relative to the times we live in and not specific to football. I have come through the periods of the first £5K, 10, 20, 25 40 50 100k players etc etc same points made. Always obscene and will continue to be. I can see the first £500K Billion pound player on the horizon. A team shirt costing £500. it is all daft. I would like to see a brake put on, just for sanity sake but there are too may vested interest in football now who will milk the system. To say “it is a business now” is probably the best truism that can be said. I ask myself, what is football given back? We have more organisations, which means an overload of management and costs who are not even in “sync” with each other. Football is still a beautiful game but is now manipulated. The joy of watching 22 players actually enjoying football being debased by the divers, cheaters and dare I say it, VAR and theatrical performers posing as footballers. I will always watch football so this is just my lament on the state of the game to day and the money that goes with it…..however, that has always been the case since year dot

How true BB, I have many similair thoughts… I want to be able not to bother (doing quite well with the “they’ll get my monthly membership but bugger all else” policy), but I still want to watch my time every week, no matter what.
I even find myself falling down the “hate when everybody else does but turn a blind eye when it’s my boyz” rabbit hole with regards to the cheating and play acting, which annoys me too! (Other than against the Goonies, then it’s actively encourged!)

Yeah I agree Sean. I said in an earlier post that Salah was living in Dreamland if he really thinks Liverpool will pay him £500k pw.
It does pose a problem for Liverpool though Salah will be 30 before next season starts and it will be difficult to get a substantial fee for him next Summer given his age and salary expectations and he’s a difficult player to replace, you would think though that both sides will come to a sensible conclusion which I suspect will probably end up North of VVD’s alleged £220k pw wages?

Highly doubt Salah would demand 500k pw, but I could see him and his agent making a case for him being worth that and try to negotiate a higher salary on that basis accepting Liverpool can’t afford the full 500k.

I think City are going to trounce us in this game. We are a shambles defensively at the moment. I’ve heard Evans will be fit again after this week but I’m assuming he’s not going straight into 90 mins of game time. Without him we have just looked clueless.
