Fulcrum we defo miss trent. We cant handle being pressed and trents long range psssing wad always an outlet.
New signings have disrupted us and i think we are playing to many at one time. Back ti basics and last season.
Tactically we look all over the place. Kerkes underlapoing runs arent creating any soace , if anything its congesting space
More concerned about the performance than result. Plenty of games to go in cl . They dived and stopped play constantly.
Id have robbbo and bradley as full backs, last season midfield 3, cheisa left isak and mo for sat. So many players off form but tactics killing us. Wide open at times and unimaginative going forward

1st October 2025 at 7:58 am #227727Sean, we’ve also had a backroom shake up, not just when klopp went but again over the summer. We are changing too much at once. Changing players and playing style at the same time. I think we have undeniable quality and the style will come, but Newcastle gave the blue print to beating us….even if they didn’t. And no team we have faced this season so far, except palace at times, have tried to outplay us. But think of the games we’ve played lately…. Gala, everyone, athletico, Newcastle…. All horrible teams to place against at any time, with no disrespect because they’ve done right by them and shouldn’t let us play how we want to, but they are truly the anti-football brigade, but horrible to be playing them when trying to cement a style or cohesiveness.
What Slot did so well last season was adjust quickly to opposition tactics. Often making big changes to team plan and even players early or mid game. We are missing that._____________________________

1st October 2025 at 8:26 am #227731I said at the time when we bought Frimpong and Kerkez they could be the wrong players for us. I am not talking ability wise but how they are used. They, also Bradley, are players that are at their best bombing forward and keeping wide, yet Slot has them inverting and underlapping. This causes congestion in attack, slows down our play and gives no space for anyone to exploit.
If we wanted technical players inverting we should have gone for Ait-Nouri, or a LB that can shuffle into a back 3 then Hato. For the right im not sure, Porto maybe but likely unavailable, but it’s here where Trent is most missed. He had the technical ability to deliver from deep meaning he didn’t get in Salah’s way like Bradley and Frimpong do, who need to underlap further up to be effective.
Remember having a discussion with Bingo about missing Trent, he didn’t get it, he just went on about how Frimpong can use his speed to defend better. He couldn’t get his head around how important the fullbacks at Liverpool dictate the play and how we need to ensure we get the best ones for the system, not just the best ones according to form for another team with a different style.

1st October 2025 at 8:43 am #227732“Drop him, play like last season to create space, get the fluidity back and bring him on off the bench when the opposition get tired until a system is worked out.”
I find this confusing as its what I’ve been saying since the start of the season and you disagreed with.
We’ve been playing like a Slot League Cup team, that is to say, disjointed and looking like a team that’s never played a game together, all too often.
Why?… well because they haven’t played many games together.
There’s several new players all on the pitch at the same time across multiple positions each finding their own way with varying degrees of success and the existing team mates still getting used to them and how they play.I said from the start of the season particularly with our fixtures that some of these players needed to be eased in.
Away To Newc not an easy fixture especially in the context of the Isak saga and their overly “robust” midfield.
Home to Arsenal, one of our toughest league games of the season.
We may have came out on the right side of these results but we can all acknowledge there was issues._____________________________

1st October 2025 at 8:53 am #227733Yeah I did disagree eith you ginger and looking back at my comment made in the aftermath of a disappointing performance maybe I was a little too quick to post. Clearly something isn’t right bu also clear the like of Isak (too soon to judge to be fair) and Wirtz are elite level players but as a team we are not functioning correctly.
Something has to change, and that could be to drop Wirtz, but I’m not sure that will actually solve anything other than maybe giving a bit more space up top as Szoboszlai can operate deeper. But I don’t think Wirtz would suddenly think “oh yeah, that’s how I do it” and I don’t think it’s just about settling in and getting to know your team mates, so it would only be a short term fix unless we acknowledgewe made a massive transfer mistake. Hence why I think the entire set up is wrong stemming from the fullbacks and Slot needs to change something to enable our most talented players like Wirtz and Salah to thrive.

1st October 2025 at 9:09 am #227734Iβm not only talking about Wirtz but he plays a pivotal central position.
When we think back to last season when Szobo played there, he did some almighty tracking back to help stop the counters against us; which I think weβre missing.
I also think weβre missing an in form MacA who can really dictate the tempo of game when on it.Pick and choose when and where to start the new lads. Help them find their feet and get the best out of them by instilling confidence.
Slot still has to trust his title winning players and fit the new lads in around them showing them how we play._____________________________

1st October 2025 at 9:16 am #227735We’re missing a major part of that title winning team and his replacements can’t play the way Slot is asking them.
And no, not talking about Nunez π€£

1st October 2025 at 9:23 am #227736We are getting players way too isolated and pushed too wide. Could we not at times play a front 2 (Isak and ekitike….but salah and Gakpo can work that system too) ….with a diamond of wirtz, Mac, Szobo, gravenberch behind and let frimpong and kerkez the space to run wide. Would even play Chiesa at the top of that diamond at times.
Our current biggest weakness is Konate. His future needs sorting so he can get back to playing without distraction or we move on. Amazed we haven’t sorted this one way or the other before season started._____________________________

1st October 2025 at 9:27 am #227738Lads, some good thoughts there. Its a huge transitional period with so many leaving and joining. Problem is because we spent big vultures in media/pundits/opposing fans already calling players out.
This is very much slots team now. His biggest challenge yet. Tactics all over place and players out of form but huge changes so patience is needed

1st October 2025 at 9:33 am #227739Fulcrum, that is the formation I’ve wanted since the summer and mentioned before this game. Grav can drop into a back 3 when building from the back so you get a 3+2 /(3 cbs and the 2cms) two triangle passing lane system. Great way to beat a press. Keep full backs high and wide for the transition when Grav or VvD hit a diagonal. Players can shift left or right to create overloads as they see fit, potentially leaving the other side free (like the classic anvil and hammer tactic used by Alonso at Leverkusen when Frimpong scored a few).
But yeah, Konate needs dropping. Such a shame Leoni had his injury it could have opened an opportunity for him even this early.

1st October 2025 at 11:01 am #227747No point for over analysis, the problem here is quite simple.
The new players, apart from Ekitike, have not yet settled in, which can be understandable, considering how tough the PL is, plus Slot experimenting to accommodate these new players, is what has led to our dip in form. That is the problem.
And for those who unfairly slated Trent and Luis DΓaz, now you can clearly see how hard it is to replace them. At RB, in only 10 games Slot has already used three players (Frimpong, Bradley, Szoboszlai) while on the left-wing, the combination between Diaz and Ekitike would have been devastating. Btw DΓaz is flying, just like Ekitike, fitting seamlessly into his new team with 4 goals and 3 assists already in just 9 games
On Saturday, if we are to win the game, it has to be back to basics, and it’s fairly obvious what that team MUST be, which I’ll post on the game thread on that day.

1st October 2025 at 12:24 pm #227752Somethings not quite right when youβre clearing out players and bringing in new ones in one foul swoop. You should be brining in new players whilst the current ones are still there, they then start edging out the older guard, then you sell the older guard. Otherwise youβre selling yourself short with a rough transition vs a smoother one. During the Klopp era, we gradually added players over the years from Mane & Wijnaldum in year one, then Salah, VVD & Robertson a year later, then Alisson & Fabinho after that.

1st October 2025 at 12:31 pm #227753We seem to have gone from one extreme of using a very limited pool of players last year, leading to exhaustion later in the season, to cutting and changing every game this.
So many new players to introduce was never going to be a good idea, but think the time has come to go back to basics with a settled team for the next few weeks. Get Robbo and Bradley in the full back positions, Szobo in the middle of the park. Gapko and Salah out wide, rotating Isak and Ekitike.
Wirst, Frimpong, Kerkez coming off the bench and brought into the team based on form in due course.
We need to stop giving ourselves a mountain to climb each game.

1st October 2025 at 12:52 pm #227754I’ll jump the gun here.
Team for Saturday, same team as against Everton, except Mamardashvili in for the injured Alisson, Robbo in for Kerkez, and Isak in for Ekitike if he’s injured, otherwise he starts.

1st October 2025 at 1:05 pm #227756“Why is it whenever we perform badly people state we miss Diaz? Sure he had some good performances last season, but so did the rest of the team. He had some pretty mediocre ones too.”
Because he was the best left-winger in the league (even proved by stats), so versatile that he was also our best No. 9. in most big matches and an endless running machine who never gave up, fighting till the last minute. It’s no wonder he’s started so spectacularly at Bayern.
We 100% miss Luis DΓaz with his fighting spirit, trickery and prolific output.
As for “Diaz would have made little difference.”, I totally and utterly disagree, he would have set the league alight playing alongside the sensational Ekitike, stretching teams to the limit.

1st October 2025 at 2:51 pm #227762Salah was the not only the best right winger in the league last season, but the best player by miles (way ahead of Diaz), and some might say the best in the World, yet he is struggling currently with this tactical set up.
Wonder why?
Sometimes songman you need to look beyond the individual player and their stats, it’s a team game.
