Definitely Spain were the best team from the beginning to the end, I always say may the best team win although when I was playing that wasn’t my belief. π

14th July 2024 at 11:12 pm #215119If Trent had defended like Walker tonight, he would have been burned at the stake.

15th July 2024 at 5:47 am #215120Walker always been a poor defender, his strength is going forward, I also felt with Mainoo there Declan Rice has to run around all over the the show doing the defensive midfield duties. But Southgates biggest mistake is bringing on the bomb squad far too late, don’t know why he always does that. Also you cannot play anyone who clearly is not fully fit hiding injuries just so to be in the limelight.

15th July 2024 at 8:43 am #215121Spain were not only the best team on the night but the best in the tournament. We had a decent chance to win but was too negative and Southgate insisted on picking players out of form. To set up to hit on the counter and only have Saka who can do that with pace is laughable.
We need to learn from some of the big teams, Spain had Olmo on the bench up until Pedri was injured, we tried to shoehorn both Foden and Bellingham in to the side. And neither flourished as a result. Not convinced that it’s wise to change formation mid tournament either, and the lack of a left back is shocking. Spain went with someone way down the pecking order at left back, but he offered them something all through the tournament and will be in the team of the tournament no doubt.
You can go on for hours about this England team, Southgate isn’t good enough but then there is no one who you can say looks a natural successor. Maybe Eddie Howe is worth a punt?

15th July 2024 at 8:49 am #215122Just no balls. No appetite try and play until 1-0 down.
They will be full of regret as they are nuch better then that last night.
Be brave, get on the ball, not pickford going lomg.
They could have playrd a lot better last time so they be very disappointed

15th July 2024 at 9:12 am #215123What next guys? I feel proud of our guys despite all the criticism and flak coming out from various quarters. Really thought this was the one. Spain I don’t think were overly special, but they grinded us down with that little bit of quality they needed – just got caught out.

15th July 2024 at 9:15 am #215124What about our headers saved off the line? Spain was shaking in their boots at one point; we came close once again.

15th July 2024 at 10:04 pm #215126Not being bolder is only half the problem. The team just isn’t very good in possession with the ball. Spain looked like a club team that had been playing together for years. Indeed I think last night’s game resembled a premier league game between City and a mid table club.
England keep putting individual players on pedestals, make them undroppable and keep trying to squeeze all the best players into the team at once. It’s as though our tactic was (and often has been for years) to set up not to lose and hope one of our star players delivers after which we’d then call them a legend – again putting the individual ahead of the overall team. It’s been going on for years and it’s the same mentality as that of a lower league team playing a top team in a cup final. Remember the almost desperate clamour to get Rooney back into the team after an injury some years ago at a tournament? It’s just embarrassing. But it’s part of our culture and for me is the biggest reason we haven’t won a trophy for 58 years. And let’s not forget Spain lost one of their best players last night. It didn’t make any difference to them.

16th July 2024 at 6:00 am #215129This is true we put players on a pedestal and indeed this makes the manager too scared to drop them if they not doing the business or even if they carrying an injury. Southgate.is not the only manager guilty of this, there are many also at club level. If you play someone whose carrying or you suspect is hiding an injury dont play them at all. If a player like Foden, Kane or Bellingham just to name a couple of examples are not playing to their undoubted ability stick them on the bench, this should motivate them to be more determined when they come on, just felt he could have chosen better in every game but was a bit scared of upsetting the big names.

16th July 2024 at 9:42 am #215130Rover, disagree about walker. He is an excellent defender most of the time but he was terrible for the 2nd goal. He should have crunched curcella
You look at players involved now to 20 years ago. Foden etc wouldn’t get in the 2004 england team
These current players havent a patch on gerrard, scholes, cole, lampard, rooney etc
People comparing bellingham with zidane is hilarious. The standard of football is no were near 20 years ago. Pl is gone to shite. Hardly any real world class players in the pl now
Look at barca, munich etc average sides. Football is dying.

16th July 2024 at 11:15 am #215131Walker is neither an excellent defend or good going forward. He switches off too much to be considered an excellent defender but most of the time can get out of jail with his pace. Technically he his very lacking and this shows going forward as he cannot contribute the way Trent or even Trippiar can.

16th July 2024 at 11:22 am #215132Southgate gone. Whose your pick to succeed?
I’d say Howe if they want to English. Not the best tactically but at least he plays exciting football.

16th July 2024 at 11:48 am #215133Southgate did right, he was not disgraced and did OK despite winning nothing and favouring unfit players, Howe for me is the logical choice.

21st July 2024 at 8:54 pm #215146For me, Southgate did a great job overall but took the tournament football style to itβs extreme especially in a straight shoot out final.
