Well to me that game just shows how much England miss Ali and Sterling in midfield. They are the only two players that can either make a telling pass or make a run through the middle. We will go out in the group stages again playing like that.

We’ve played the top two ranked sides in the world with a reduced squad and have remained unbeaten. Defensively as Jim says we’ve looked good and we were better offensively v Germany than we were tonight.
I’m sure this international break has been helpful to Southgate obviously we’re not going to win the W.Cup but we could get out of the Group stages and maybe even make the Qtr Finals I hope Southgate sticks with the younger players going forwards.

A friendly, and the point of experiment, but nothing shun from any of the 2 games from England. No ambition.
The argument naturally be raised of the opposition and quality, but it should be DNA to just go for it an give it your all. I seen that largely and only in Marcus Rashford up the top.
Southgate my friend: You played under Venables, but by no means you are BORING!!!!! Dull and Boring and one to stifle good football and simply park the bus!!!!!!!!!!!

Who would you drop if you stick with the younger players nine. Clearly you can’t drop Kane. IMO Sterling is having a cracking season as is Delph. The latter definitely got a knock in the last few minutes of our game vs Arsenal. Not sure about Sterling. Alli has to go surely ?
Llanana ( I forgot about him earlier) if fit offers more in midfield than Henderson and Dier. Winks and RLC do they go? It’s not easy is it?_____________________________

I think Giggs made a good point about Wilshere I know he’s had a terrible injury record and is struggling for starts at Arsenal but we haven’t got anyone as good as him on the ball that can play as a two in a pivot who can hold and use the ball as well as Wilshere.

I’m highly tempted to start another thread because quite simply, I’ve been robbed in being time-wasted. I know about youngsters tested, but this was during experienced players on the circuit like Bryan Robson and Gary Lineker.
This is sheer bullshit. I don’t normally swear or like to swear, but this it bullshit.
I hate the Bus parked and running down the clock with only at best one guy willing to give his all. Nonsensical, and I’m being too nice to declare just being insulted point blank.

Jim, I think Defoe and Sturridge might be under pressure Henderson too perhaps even Lallana I would currently take Winks,Loftus Cheek and Gomez I would definitely take Sterling.
I think Southgate will go with some of the young players we’re not going to win the World Cup anyway so let’s try and build something that might take us a bit further in the next Euros and World Cup.

Wilshire, Not for me nine. I have never seen what others see in him when he is fit. He doesn’t have the vision. Sure he tries but all too often he just loses the ball or runs down dead ends. Plus he can’t score goals.

Lallana passes and moves the ball well when I have seen him play. He always looks to run into space. Be a mistake imo not to take him if he’s fit. Sturridge on his day is a finisher but his days are so infrequent. I would leave him out. Henderson is worse than Dier I would definitely leave him out. Strikers it has to be Kane, Vardy and Rashford. Possibly Defoe and Solanke? How many players can we take, do you know? Just checked it’s 23!

Jim, I understand what you’re saying and I know Wilshere divides opinion even among Arsenal fans but the key against the best sides in the World is ball retention and we suffered due to the lack of it v Brazil and if and when he’s fit Wilshere has the ability to retain the ball and use it well.
Will Southgate pick him? I doubt it without he’s playing regularly for Arsenal and on top form both of which seem a way away currently.
Of the strikers Kane, Rashford and Vardy are shoe ins imo after which I would be tempted to take one of the young strikers, overall I think Southgate might well go with quite a young squad for Russia and I think that makes sense because we have to be looking past this World Cup because we’re not going to win it and I would like to see Southgate use it to build something more meaningful going forwards with an eye on the Euro’s and the next World Cup given the quality of what we have coming through with players like young Foden etc.
The squad selection v Holland and Italy in March will be interesting with that in mind. Cheers 999

bad news Italy out of the world cup but then again did they deserve it? I think they just did unfortunately for them. Wonder who will be their next manager, heard Ancelotti but never really rated him that much either. Like you know who always ends up at the top top clubs.
