3rd July 2025 at 12:38 pm #220976I’m afraid Sky News are now, in their own inimitable fashion, wallowing in the guy’s “passing” as they weirdly call it – death to us. I wonder, at what point does all become bad taste? The guy’s died, it’s very sad, but let’s move on.

3rd July 2025 at 2:18 pm #220983Personal request JM, if I may, and also on behalf of his international teammate and Man United capt Bruno Fernandes, Diego’s new wife and mother of his three very young children who won’t ever see Daddy again and finally his Mum and Dad who have lost both their sons, may we all have at ‘least’ 24 hours to grieve? Please.
I promise, tomorrow, we’ll all be back to normal as tho this never happened but moreso to not inconvenience you any further.
Thanks in advance.

3rd July 2025 at 3:09 pm #220988It’s a tradegy, but the British media really go overboard when someone rich and famous dies, while never much caring about the man in the street.

3rd July 2025 at 4:50 pm #220992Doesn’t really matter, most celebrities probably earned that right of world sympathy. That’s how the world swings, everyone still remembers James Dean who died in similar circumstances but none of us were even born yet. I can tell you I was too damn lazy to become a pro or even try. Its way too much hard work and sacrifices.

3rd July 2025 at 5:51 pm #220993I was at work when this news broke out. Obviously being an LFC fan, this is like WOW! Effectively first thing in the morning and how do you process it all??
I’m glad Sky News for example covered it as I was able to catch coverage during my Tea Break on my Phone.
It’s a first team player we support that we’ve lost, but that’s a drop in the ocean compared to his immediate family and what they have had to face with his Brother also sadly killed.

3rd July 2025 at 6:26 pm #220994Can’t imagine how that poor family must be grief stricken, it stays for the rest of your life. Yes there’s very sadly so many innocent people dying tragically in wars and illness and also accidents but if it’s someone that’s famous or well known it somehow always feels worse.

3rd July 2025 at 6:55 pm #220997Not everyone knows who a man on the street is, every football fan knew who Diogo Jota was. Football is a big sport in this country and news like this will always gain big coverage. Not sure why some will expect less.

3rd July 2025 at 7:01 pm #220998Sorry Rob, you’re talking shite mate. And this isn’t because the guy played for Liverpool, it’s the media milking someone’s death because they’ve fuck all else to talk about. It’s not me that’s not giving his family privacy at this time, it’s Sky News mate. They’re a fucking shocker. It’s very sad, end of!

3rd July 2025 at 7:08 pm #220999Interesting story I picked up earlier as I rung one of my co-workers who’s a United fan and how he was telling me about Jota playing him online on FIFA on quite a Regular basis over the weekend and up late night.
Small World. Lots of kids will I’m sure know and be a fan of. It just goes back to his Family and loved ones and the physical and emotional pain they are going through losing not one but two.

3rd July 2025 at 7:39 pm #221000Michael Madsen the actor also died today, RIP. One of Tarantino’s regulars. Here in Ireland we’ve a suspicion that death comes in threes, hope we’re wrong

3rd July 2025 at 8:21 pm #221002Apologies JM, just a massive shock but the guy is a famous footballer and therefore no surprise that Sky will indeed cover it in detail. Would’ve been the same for any PL footballer or from any top league. There’s always the off button.
Best to you JM.

4th July 2025 at 6:29 am #221014In Malta we report on pretty much every non-age related death in the media, simply because our population is so small that it makes sense, whereas the UK can’t possibly focus on that level without leaving no room for anything else, so only mentioning celebrities and high-interest cases (like murder etc.) on sky news makes sense.
As to Diogo Jota, all I can say is that it is heartbreaking ending life at 28 when you should have so much time left to enjoy your life… And given the last few months he’s had it’s even more heartbreaking for him. I can only say that I hope his family and friends manage to get over this horrible moment.

4th July 2025 at 6:41 am #221015I guess I just hate Sky and their tendency to get hold of something tragic and run and run with it. They’re leeches.
