Just watched the game, basically a B team won without too much hassle, kinda boring tournament, lacking in atmosphere but it’s quite a bit of easy money in the coffers.

Benfica are half decent Aindro but much prefer them to Bayern for sure. Nice to see you came over to this site m8. The Chelsea thread I have resurrected from the archives. It was last posted on nearly 2 years back. We can use that for our general chit chat about CFC 🙂

I saw until 65th min. It was an uneven match IMO. We had difficulties to break their defense but Tosin helped us with a really nice header. Playing the big Tosin helps us for free kicks & corners. Colwill is a better defender but he doesn’t have the same height.

Delap looks a real deal. Really happy with his goal. We need a no:9 and he is a no:9. Guiu on the other hand is still too raw. I don’t think he will make it. IMO send him on loan to a Championship club and let him develop.

Happy with the victory and the fact that players were rested. But play like yesterday, Benfica will beat us. We need to step up.

Yes, that Delap goal was a proper centre forward’s effort which gave me much joy and hope. Early signs are promising with him.

I think it’s really not bad that we finished 2nd in the group. Benfica are a very good team but we have a decent chance to beat them. It’s a better draw than Bayern, at least. And in case we win, we’ll face one of the Brazilian teams Palmeiras or Botafogo. Also IMO we have a fair chance to win that match.

So my prediction is that we’ll go until semifinal where Man City will beat us pretty bad.

Agree Delap’s goal was well finished.
Maybe we do have a proper number 9.

We do have the easier side of the draw missing the tougher opponents, but as you say Aindro man city will be a tough game, they played like there old self v Juve.

Welcome Srilankanlion. I am new too to this website. Just joined this week. Yeah hopefully we can rebuild the Chelsea community previously on TeamTalk here. Just saw this morning that “Your Say” forum already disappeared from TeamTalk.

One game at a time indeed. Benfica won’t be an easy opponent by any means. They finished 2nd in their league and they beat Bayern. But I prefer to face them than Bayern. This knock out phase, we need Cole Palmer to find his form back. His form is really patchy this year, it was bound to happen IMO as nobody can perform at 110% all the time. But so far in this competition Enzo & Delap outshone him by far.

Let us hope the manager selects his strongest starting eleven from this game on and all played in their most suited positions. Include Lavia, Caicedo and Enzo and play James right back and Cucu left back. Give Palmer the freedom to roam and start Delap with Jackson permanently benched (well for the rest of this tournament at least). Enjoy the match fellas.

Everyone is underestimating Benefica, they more than capable of beating Chelsea but it also depends on what side Maresca puts out, Chelsea have far too many players and need too offload all those that they have no intention of usuing of which there are quite a few. Most of those hard to see any club wanting them never mind buying them.

Four minutes to go plus added time and the storm rolls in and a delay. Crazy stuff. As John Obi said in the time they take to evacuate the supporters the game would likely be played out. 1-0 up so what next. Not impressed by the subs. Three key players taken off replaced by inferior quality. We stuff this up and its on the Manager …. again.

The starting line up was majority what I predicted in my post a few posts back, yes played all three Enzo, Caicedo and Lavia, Cucurella and James the backs in correct position, Delap up front. I would start Tosin before Badiashiele every time but the Manager chose otherwise.

I missed the 1st half. But 2nd half we were pretty much in control before the interruption. I would prefer Chalobah ahead of Tosin & Badiashile. A great goal by James. But agreed, the substitutions aren’t inspiring. We only have one striker at the moment, why did we take Delap off?

100% a ridiculous decision to take off Delap as Nkunku in current form and attitude offers next to nothing. When this restarts I can see Benfica 90% possession and us hanging on desperately. Also note that if we survive this we play the next match without a suspended Caicedo due to another yellow card.

Well there you go – 2 hour delay – Gusto is our weak link – penalty – goal. We are now in big trouble it would appear.

And you guys were right! 1-1 now. Malo Gusto is really our weak point im this tournament. Again a mistake from him after 2 mistakes against Flamengo. With no striker, and Benfica have the momentum, I cannot see how we can win

Wow, send off for Benfica. Maybe we are a chance now. Do we have anybody left out there to score a goal? Cucurella maybe, Palmer after a long drought, Neto even. Still hope.
