As always I will be interested in peps team to morrow. I feel sure he will want to keep the momentum going but may play Augerro from start for half a game. I would definitely bring laporte and Ake in if they are fit and ready and also give the young keeper another game although it is likely Edison will return My fron three would be Foden Augerro Torres. I would have Delap and Harwood bellis ready to come on. No complacency, get the job done in a professional way and respect Birmingham

Have to admit I was a little disappointed in City performance. A lot of possessions but a lot of very sloppy passing. The plus was three Academy lads got a run out but I bet Pep was not happy. Just no pace or aggression and I thought a touch complacent from the kick off. Churlish maybe after a 3-0 win but I expect better no matter what the opposition is.Two brilliant Bernado goals but he looked shattered to me. Jesus..not fit enough yet but this was his first game back..Mahrez, very dissapointed again, he should have had a field day to day but continues to be inconsistent.Steffen dropped too many balls to day but recovered, however, still a keeper in waiting. Foden excellent again

Brighton game…..a bit nervy in the last 10 minutes, why Sterling was given that penalty to take I have no answer, if KDB did not want it. Gungoghan was the man
However, clean sheet again but again we need somebody that can score consistently

Solid rather than spectacular performance from City tonight but three points none the less. Brighton played well without seriously threatening and overall Potter got his tactics spot on – make no mistake they are a decent team.
Not sure how Mahrez gets a start ahead of Sterling (on the right) – the number of times he lost the ball and didn’t make any attempt to track back beggars belief; hope Pep noticed this. The best we’ve played this season is with Foden on the left and Sterling on the right, with KdB, Bernardo, Gundogan and Rodri operating (and alternating positions) through the middle.

Very Pleased with the performance tonight…then sterling lined up to take the penalty and my heart sank…and he missed…like Brian said why did he take it..that goal could could be so valuable at the end of the season…we are starting to be so disciplined in our approach, especially defence wise .then we Pratt about like that as if it’s on the training aground …debruyne you had the captains arm band on !!!!

There’s something missing from the team, I think there’s a need for a top class striker, Augero is almost finished. Foden is the best young player in the country but his not a striker. Really City should have won easy last night unlike Spurs who were lucky to get a draw and certain other teams who always scrape last minute undeserved wins.

Spot on MM. I think a lot of City watchers are puzzled why the Club hasn’t taken the decline of Aguero more seriously, although it’s seemingly almost impossible to find a replacement of that quality. It is encouraging to see more stability at the back but the difficulty in finishing stood out in the game last night and that remains a concern. There is very little chance that this City will undeservedly nick a late win – if only!

City defense is excellent now abd that’s what will win titles. Very impressed by Diaz and hat off to stones. Massive improvement from him this season

It’s all about getting the wins as teams are dropping much more points to the so called lower teams this season

Let us not forget, Brighton are a good team and well managed, even pep acknowledges that, so it was not as easy as some would predict but it was comfortable, until, the last 10 minutes when we simply ran out of steam and ideas to manage the game out, OK we did that, but we need to play for 90 minutes plus or we will get caught by a team that has a striker
As far as strikers go, I would agree with what has been said, we are not going to get much more from Augerro now and we do need a replacement, Jesus is a good player but not a 22/24 goal striker on a consistent basis. have we been waiting too long for Messi to make up his mind and when he does it will probably be Barca again. I am not sure Harland is the answer either..I just do not know who, availble now, to go for. We do need somebody though

Re comments about Mahrez…I also agree…he does his magical stuff when it is easy for him but does not help the team in any other way, I am not a Sterling fan but acknowledge he always puts the effort in I prefer Sterling and Bernado on the wings with Torres doing shifts as well.. Foden wasted on the wing now

Most supporters whose teams are out the running will be supporting City now you will find, except of course when they play against their team. But not if it’s critical for City to get the points then even supporting your own loved team goes out the window.

I have been watching the steady slow improvements to City’s recent performances, a slight change of style and improvements in some players performances so it is no surprise to me that they have climbed up the ladder, that is not saying they will win the league, far too early for that but we have a consistency level now. I am pleased for Cancello and Stones, who I have been critical of, who have the most noticeable improvements on last season. Where we go from here is still very much a question that can only be answered in continued improvement. We will have some set backs I am sure but the team is looking good at the moment.Since I am a old Mancunian I do not mind seeing our neighbours up there as well!!!!! For Cheltenham I think he will rest KDB and Dias and bring in Laporte and Torres, Pep will not treat this game lightly, The banana skin is ever present in Cup matches. PS. Thanks Ed for your note

Aguero now tested positive and showing symptoms of covid – probably out for another two weeks at least. KdB has a slight hamstring injury but expected back in 2-3 weeks. Hoping he’s back for the Liverpool game.

Best chance imo of City winning the title again rests with getting Aguero fit and keeping him fit and also keeping De Bruyne fit too.

Augerro…Ithink we will not see 90 minutes from him again, maybe a subs role and he will still score a goal but, alas, we have had many good years from him and he will not be with us next season. We will sign a striker in the summer but he will be one that fits Peps role and that is a reason he has not rushed into the transfer market for one now although few candidates are available. Haarland is a box player and good at it but do not think he would fit in with City. Neymar. I would not touch even if he wanted to come..Messi…will be ar Barca. If we keep a strong midfield and good defence we will score goals as well but may not be enough, daft when you think about it because you could go through most of the season winning 1-0 and pick up 3pts each time. It then becomes how many times you loose or draw. I cannot see Pep being satisfied with too many 1-0 results though, his plan is to play open attacking football

You might be right about Pep’s preference for attacking football Brian, but for the rest of this season I think he’d take twenty one- nils!

It is time for Mahrez and Sterling to step up now in the absence of KDB.Augerro ..we have no replacement for. Thank goodness we have Gungdoghan, Bernado and Foden with Torres ready to replace either Sterling or Mahrez if they do not score enough, I know they are not genuine strikers but they should be doing a lot better than they are. I just hope we do not go to penalties with those two!!!!

That was a real Cup match, I was surprised he had 4 youngster in, they did OK but this was a level up from the Academy and they know they will have been in a real match now. A poor first half, never got any kind of control and generally outfought, better in second half but it needed Gungdoghan cancel and Dias to get home. Foden outstanding. Well done to Cheltenham, a really good effort and made us work very hard
