BB the thing with city is which team turns up. Honestly city are the only team in the comp that could literally hammer every team they play but they are just so inconsistent. I think Liverpool are becoming harder to beat but I don’t think they can blow teams away like city can when they are on their game. I would not be surprised one iota to see city hammer SU but by the same token it wouldn’t surprise me to see them struggle, it’s like tossing a coin.

If you actually look who City have lost against this season, or dropped points to, itโ€™s the usual suspects, or bogey teams they have tended to struggle against both this season, and previous ones, e.g. physical sides and very tactical sides that have the players to hurt them:

        Wolves (twice) – physical team.
Crystal Palace draw – physical team.
Liverpool – high energy team with devastating players.
Man Utd – very effective counter attacking team.

And they lost to Norwich away, and drew to Newcastle, both shortly after a European game.

But itโ€™s clear City are still capable of winning a lot of games for the simple reason that they always score (and tend to score quite a few at that).

So though Sheff Utd have been solid at the back, I donโ€™t see a problem with City scoring against them. Theyโ€™ll score, they always do as I say. And I donโ€™t think Sheff Utd have enough to outscore them. Sheff Utd are more of an organised side than a side that can really hurt you. Look at the stats:

Sheff Utd may have only conceded 22 goals, but theyโ€™ve only scored 25! And they just donโ€™t possess the players to pose a huge threat to City like the other teams above have imo.

So I see a relatively comfortable win for City. Similar to the 2-0 win at the Etihad in the corresponding game.

Well I hope you are right Mikus I see the City problem another way, although you cannot say we played badly even in the games we lost but we did not put away the many chances we created, despite our scoring record, we should have had at least 20 more goals and some of the losses turned to wins. Overall, I am not despondent about City this season, they always go out and try to play attractive football, but we all know, that does not win all the games. I think Pep adapts to games well but by his own admittance “is still learning” this from a leading coach shows how hard it is in the EPL
I note that Italian guy is having a go at City again claiming he has seen evidence of mismanagement, this has been going on for years…where is this evidence? Also, Italian football, like Spanish football have been subsided for years and covered up and both countries had the cash to spend when others did not There is a serious sour grape attitude against the EPL from Europe

Mikus, although I agree with what you say about City being a force simply because they can score a lot and everything else TBH, I’d also make note that Sheffield might be inclined to get a goal against the run of play. They can defend and soak it up. They have a few big lads in their side but also a few who can play. They definitely need to invest this summer and the PL TV money is going to do them the world of good, if they can spend it well. They should have come into the PL with a very low wage bill. I’m not sure anyone gave them a hope of staying up. I’d say people thought Norwich would do better. Funny how that goes.

” I think Pep adapts to games well but by his own admittance โ€œis still learningโ€ this from a leading coach shows how hard it is in the EPL”

This is not even him just being humble, it’s definitely true. Klopp has been in the PL a bit longer than Pep and he’s had to adapt the way he wants us to play many times because the PL is incredibly intense. Where is our “Heavy Metal Football”? I’ll tell you where, it’s in the back seat. Sometimes we take it out for a drive but it’s no longer our main way of playing because it burns out our players and stacks injuries.

With Pep, I think it’s pretty obvious what he’s learned, which makes it all the more confusing as to why he doesn’t sign a CB… Seriously, anyone half decent. Put Fernandinho back in midfield and get a Klavan in there. I think there’s more to it and someone mentioned FFP before. That could be it but you wouldn’t have to spend much. Perhaps they’ve quietly been told not to sign anyone or else? Or perhaps there is something that the City lads on here know that I’m not privy to.

He’ll have to try and replace David Silva also but perhaps the current squad is even good enough to just roll with it. Mahrez is doing better for you lads lately but perhaps that’s not directly related.

Ye’ve got to spend a bit. Still have an amazing squad though. Just get Sterling back on form, or cash in on him to Real ๐Ÿ˜‰

Pressure will be on Liverpool if City were to win tonight the lead would be reduced to 13 points and Liverpool would only have 2 games in hand.?

May not have quite been as comfortable, but City always score and as I said, Sheff Utd didnโ€™t have the players to really hurt City. Was always going to be a case of when not if tonight. City could easily now go on a long run themselves, particularly now Laporte is back.

City had to mix it to night, away from there style and I thought we did well. It is not the easiest place to com and SU are a good strong team. This does not change anything in my view other than it gives us 3 its and I would like to go on a run again, they are all tough games ahead. Pleased Laporte got 70 mins in and did well plus Garcia getting valuable game time as well. I see these two as a good partnership next season Sterling and Jesus disappointing to night and what can you say about that man Augerro. KDB our MotM

Aguero incredible Brian. Still peeved Benitez passed up on him when he had the chance to sign him for around ยฃ18 million at a young age.

Not sure Sean, Rafa said it was a risk for the money and his age and experience or lack thereof at the time. Whether that was his personal opinion or it was a PR line to defend the clubs lack of buying power perhaps. Either way, given the money we blew, that would have been a pretty sound investment.

Mikus, you cannot buy experience at 18, you buy potential There will always be a risk at buying young players, that is what concerns me when you see, mostly from Europe< the next Pele, Pirlo, Ronaldo etc etc hype to get the price up and once one of the bigger teams bite..up goes the price again since the seller/agent will have created a market. Augerro was one of the best buys we ever made

Nine, yes he is class, I thought it was a high risk bringing him in for this particular game and after 15 min I feared the worst but it has paid off providing he has no re action, The other plus was having the confidence to put garcia in against a very physical team, he did well…again We have one of the CBs we are looking for now and the other is not far away

Yeh Brian, my post is mainly rooted in jealousy as to what could have been. Though I do seem to remember Torres (when he was still at Atletico) say that it was instantly apparent that Aguero was top draw when he joined Atletico back in 2006 for ยฃ18 odd million.

Watching last night made me think what might have been without so many crucial injuries. Not saying Liverpool wouldnt be top but it would be a lot closer, like last year.

Not forgetting the club making a big mistake not buying a CB to replace Kompany but instead a reserve RB. We all make mistakes!

Adlab…my opinion is that we had a squad that should not have lost 5 matches. Our losses, mostly self inflicted through lack of concentration and this is what we missed most a figure at the back marshalling the defence. Despite this, we should have done better this season, Pep knows it and has been let down by a few players not performing and when expected. I do not feel despondent though because next season will see an improvement all round and I am not really disappointed in the way we have played in most matches. I do not think we are good enough for CL this season so that leaves the two domestic cups

I don’t think it was ever Pep’s idea to buy a replacement CB for Kompany, it’s not like he never had the resources to do so! I think his plan was always to convert Fernandinho to CB, so in effect Rodri was Kompany’s replacement. Wasn’t it Pep that converted Mascherano to a CB, and did something similar at Bayern too with Alonso and Maritnez? Doesn’t explain his weird obsession with very expensive full backs!

Some quotes from a while ago from Pep (not sure exactly when, but Fernando was still at the club):

โ€œI think Fernandinho can play in 10 different positions, because he has the quality to play wherever. He can play there [defence], he is quick, aggressive, intelligent and strong in the air.

So at the end of the window, we will have to see which players we have. But I think a lot of the midfield players we have here can play at the back, and when that happens the build-up play is much, much better.

I believe when the ball goes from a central defender to a striker, the ball comes back as quickly as it goes, and we have to make it clear that we are building up in our first process, whether that is defenders or midfielders, and that is why we need players of quality, to play in that style, and we have the players to do that. And I think by August 31, we will have the right players to play the way we want.โ€
