In recent years our football quality has increased by a vast amount. I still go to matches but being one of the older generation still have deep in me that a 3-0 lead can be overturned against us, Totally irrational now by the standards that have been set, although one never says never in this game. but I draw comfort from the fact whatever the score I will be watching some great football with the odd comedy sketches thrown in….but that is entertainment in its own way. I have lost the feeling of “typical City” because most games we are good and I think this term is well kicked into the long grass now. I have watched City outplay teams and still loose the game though but when you think about it, this is football and nothing should be that certain. I also think the management of the Club has also impressed the fans, it feels a well run club now and I can go back to Wilf Wild who did a good job for City after WW2. The future has more uncertainty than ever but it is the same for all clubs and this is where the Management plays a key part. We will not win titles every year but the effort will be there and we go again

nice to get a city thread started Brian, its a shame many of your fellow blues dont post as often anymore
also when someone like yourself speaks of the history it really does both give food for thought and make us realise that what you say is true, its just a game and things change, things always change the only thing that doesnt is the loive we have for our team, but wether we are rubbish and poorly run or winning everything in sight, it wont last it never does and the world keeps going round!

you Sir are one person i think i could chat to (and likely bore) all day just asking questions and listening to your memories!

I’ve always had a soft spot (not so much now ?)for city Brian as my godmother lives in fallowfield Manchester which was near Maine road. She bought me the 89 jersey. The one city wore when they beat Huddersfield 10-1

Great memory is the 99 play off final. Dickov scoring the equaliser in the dying moments. City looked destained to stay in the 3rd tier of football

That’s why I never feel any bad towards city or Chelsea about their owners as city and Chelsea always had large followings and loyal supporters even in the dark days.

City got huge crowds when they were in division 1.

Enjoy the success as it’s something you maybe thought you would never see

Football can give so much joy to people and really bring people together

            That’s what it’s all about

Steve/Sean than you for the kind remarks. All I want to do is bring some perspective and pragmatism to the discussions.
City have been very fortunate in having the current owners, they could have easily gone for other teams but they saw a better way of fulfilling there “project” with City. Yes they are more than wealthy but so to are other owners, the difference is where you put the money to use. This can be done wisely or not and nobody will be perfect. The fact is we are coming to the end of the initial project and I would say we have not done badly. Where fans let themselves down is the blinkered approach to everything to do with there club. I can understand the passion/depression of fans but it is not in a healthy state at the moment with poor fan re actions, racism and bad language which I personally deplore when there are children around. I cannot see a way of improving this at the moment other than ejection from the ground. My ideal of “mixed” fans again is still far away, I used to enjoy talking to visiting fans. I just wish fans would watch 22 players and appreciate all of them. My simplistic view is to be a Champion you have to have the Brighton, Southampton Newcastle Arsenal etc etc and dare I say it even the Liverpool, City and utds This year will be Liverpool, next year…who knows?

Sean, what you’re talking about is why i always hope that leeds get back into the PL. I know, they aren’t popular with some clubs etc but they are a hugely supported side and the Pl would be better with them back in it. I’m sure it’d take them a few seasons in it to get back on track of course but you catch my drift.

I had similar feelings regards City and was disappointed when they were originally relegated (sorry about that!) but yer back and have had the best PL side in history, so yay I guess (little bit of GRRR tho).

I agree that City are well run now. They feel like a proper side and are. If Klopp wasn’t at Liverpool, I’d want pep as our manager. I’ve gained a lot of respect for him ever since he turned a pretty good City team into the best team in the world (at the time, this was my opinion and I’m sticking with it). Pep doesn’t appear very happy though of late, when I watch the press conferences but is it just me or has the quality of the questions that these journalists are asking these days really dropping off? I’ve watched a few now recently and kit’s like they are being deliberately idiotic just to eventually get a rise out of Pep. I’m sure it’s not deliberate and they are just idiots but it’s kinda frustrating to watch.

I’ve never seen a better side with the ball than the 100 point City.

Mak….I think Pep, like many others just gets frustrated with the British Press, masters of the invented story lines. His recent statement tells us he is happy to see his contract out, after that, he has no problems in staying IF the position offered to him and the players he has will work and understand his type of play. he is unique but nobody is irreplaceable I would hate to see him go this side of 4 years though. If you look at it from outside the box , so to speak the media agitate against Managers/players more than the fans do and most of the fans get it wrong because they never know all the facts, just what is fed to them. I rate Mr Klopp highly but just wait a little longer and they will find something to get there teeth into. Not every team can win the league/Cup so there target is obviously those that do not make it.

Brian… Reckon city are one of the elite sides capable of matching his ambition adn who are capable of winning the CL… My only take on pep is that perhaps his wagon wheel style of football has been found out at the top level and teams can now defend against it?! Either way, best of luck chasing big ears this season.

I have a rep who comes into my workplace who is a City season ticket holder who is 50. He says it sounds mad with all the great football City play and all the trophies, but he kinds of prefers the old days where it wasn’t just about winning every game. It was more about the experience of going to the match, having a few beers and the result not mattering as much as they weren’t great anyway. Now, he says, every match there is so much pressure to win all the time and its like the end of the world if they draw a match or heaven forbid lose one! I told him he’s now watching David Silva instead of Jamie Pollock though and to shut up and be grateful haha.

442,,yes teams have found a way to play against us but the thing about Pep is he does learn and admits that and with fresh players and similar tactics we will be OK
Tugay,,,he has a point but I have to say that I would not want to go back to the old style of play and I am talking 40/50s mostly. Yes the atmosphere was 100% better than it is too day , be it big crowd or not. pressure is only what fans make of it, players may have pressure but different. I could best sum it up by saying, in the old days when you went 2-0 up teams rarely came back at you, nowadays even a 3-0 lead may not be comfortable if the other team score one. The shorelines then were mostly predictable. I do miss the fan atmosphere the most

My exit list for City. Not in any order Otamendi, Stones, Walker,Angeleno, Sterling,Mendy

I would like to see more of Foden, Garcia, and a couple of more Academy players

We need to buy two commanding players, mostly to organise defence, I think Rodri will be capable of doing this next season, as will Laporte
pep will continue with an attacking team rather than just a counter attack team but this has its risk, as we know

threes…I only say that about Sterling because I think he will move on and probably into Europe…time done at City now at the end of season and he knows we are looking for replacements in a number of areas for those departing and bring some freshness in. I will be surprised if he is with us next season, just a personal opinion

threes…as a PS al “best ” players have a trade in value. The trick is sell when when price can me maximised unless there is a clear indication as with Silva, Augerro and Fernandinho that they want to stay a long time. We have been fortunate there, I hope same will apply to KDB, Laporte and Rhodri.

I wouldn’t put Sterling on the forsale page but he has been flagging , which is either just a run of poor form (most likely) or maybe he’s already got his mind on somewhere. Who knows, doesn’t even have to be summer, although the Spanish clubs can’t keep their mouths shut.

Sterling is really good at what he does but is he irreplaceable? Like, I wouldn’t put him in our team. Would any other Liverpool fans and if so, for who?

Sterlings value is going to be extremely high. He’s so experienced and still only 25. I don’t know what he has left on his contract but I assume it’s a long time. You don’t let an asset like Sterling burn off his contract.

Depending on whether the right buyers are interested (Barca, Real, PSG) He could be worth 200m. Like Coutinho, the manager, staff and owners must decide if his value to the team is greater than the value of his sale. Can you get a more suitable player for a reasonable fee? I’m not sure who is more suitable than all the goals he scores but you never know, maybe Pep needs something that Sterling is bad at and it hurts his gameplan..

anyway i guess we’ll see but it’s a quiet January from everyone. What’s going on there?

Branblue theres no chance City will sell sterling. He may be a self embracing egotist but city owners are big in ambition and continual success they will therefore strengthen the team not weaken it. The others u mention may go maybe not Stones as there is a lack of top quality centre halves everywhere.

Brian, I see your point regarding Sterling and as Mak hinted maybe he is one player that could be replaced. I actually rate Sane higher than him but feel he will be off to Bayern in the summer. You could sell Sterling and get Sancho back for example, would City fans be happy with that?

Not 100% sure on the facts but aren’t City facing problems regarding their home grown players requirement? Believe it’s 8 out of the 25 man squad. So players like Stones and Sterling will have much higher importance to the team.

Mak…that was a good assessment re Sterling but you said what I was thinking why he will move. The asset on the books is only good for a time, if City feel they need to move him , they will Sterling is a good player and young and british which helps us in other ways but he is not an Augerro, he is not a Silva, Pep likes “thinking” players Sterling biggest asset is his speed not speed of thinking
I am not on a crusade to sell him but just stating the players I think will move for various reason. As for John Stones, it is true that he plays better with a strong partner e.g. Kompany, Laporte but we cannot have a player who is dependent on such support in the time of need, like , since Laportes injury. He should have “upped” his game and has also become injury prone. I think he will be allowed to leave, we have two youngsters breaking through I would rather see given a chance
Threes…I do not think they will go for Sancho again
Moos, we could always sign Jones from Utd!!!! he would be paying us though!!!!!
I have great confidence in our youngsters making the grade as CBs I think we will see big changes at City for next season

Sheffield Utd have one of the toughest defences in the country so it will be interesting to watch the attack v defence again but we need to start putting more chances created away I think Walker will be back to morrow,I hope he does not play the same trio again of Bernardo, Gundogan and Silva..it does not work unless all three are on top of the game
