      Transfers:
Our strikers, in order, are Joao Pedro, Welbeck and Emegha. Delap’s no:9 shirt was given to Pedro. It looks more and more that Xabi wants Delap and Jackson to find a new club as they were reported to train separately from the main group. They are not bad players, so I am pretty optimistic that we’ll find buyers for them before the transfer window closes.

Disasi and Badiashile, unfortunately, it’s gonna be a loan again for both. We can’t get rid of them permanently since several seasons already.

There’s hope to sell Tosin, but I cannot see any interest for Guiu and Datro Fofana though. I really hope that Chelsea will be able to make some sales, even Enzo Fernandez in the remaining window. Otherwise I am afraid of the financial violations.

      vs Fulham (A):
Not sure why, probably due to Xabi Alonso simply, I can see us winning against Fulham. I did not follow their pre-season but Xabi was able to do a proper pre-season with important players like Fofana, Palmer, Colwill, Estevao and Joao Pedro all not participated in the World Cup. Caicedo also returned early from the World Cup.

      My preferred team would be: Penders – James,Colwill,Lacroix – Palestra,Caicedo,Enzo,Neto – Rogers,Palmer – Joao Pedro.

I wouldn’t be surprised though if Xabi starts Welbeck upfront to give Joao Pedro more room to create as no:10 and bench Rogers as he arrived late from the World Cup. Same as Lavia ahead of Enzo due to transfer rumours and his late return.

A lot of surprises being thrown up on Day 1. I’m not confident about Fulham.

The way results have gone not looking forward to tomorrow’s game. Fulham always a tough nut to crack. However it’s good that top clubs have dropped points already as they can only get better. I thought Lampard’s, de Zerbi’s and Carrick’s team selections were all very poor, they all had better players on the bench. Hope Alonso doesn’t follow that trend.

I got you down for a 4-5th placement this season, of the small clubs I think we just need to be vary of Brighton and perhaps Bournemouth for another season. Villa are going way down in the league, I was just talking to a villa fan and he thinks they are gonna end up as number 15 this season. Emery is a bit too good for that to happen

I have a feeling we are going to get a pleasant surprise both in result and performance against Fulham. My guess a solid 3-0 or 3-1 victory. What I really do hope for is an eye catching, highly entertaining Chelsea performance likely much better than what we saw in preseason. This simply because the serious stuff starts now – we are playing for points!!

Did anybody else here see Julio Enciso’s performance for Ipswich this weekend? He was dynamic. He signed a permanent five-year deal with Premier League club Ipswich Town from French club RC Strasbourg. He was effectively ours to take from the sister club. How did we not get first dibs? I reckon Blue Co flogged him to help balance their books.

Chelsea: Season Expectations, Squad Depth and Key Areas for Improvement

I honestly do not know what to expect from our first match. While many people are bullish about our chances, with some predicting a comfortable Chelsea victory, we should not underestimate Fulham. This is a derby, and derby matches have a different intensity and unpredictability. Fulham will turn up for this game, and the last thing we need is complacency or the assumption that the result is already guaranteed.

Overall, I think our transfer business has been good—arguably better than in previous seasons. However, I still believe there are several areas of the squad that require further strengthening if we are serious about competing for a Champions League position.

                  1. We Still Need a Proven Goalscorer

My biggest concern remains the lack of a striker who can consistently guarantee 20–30 Premier League goals per season. We have attacking players capable of contributing goals, particularly Palmer and our other attacking midfielders, while Enzo—if he stays and remains fully committed—can also contribute a reasonable number of goals from midfield.

However, I do not think we should rely solely on goals being shared across the team. At the highest level, you need a reliable, high-output striker who can consistently convert chances and deliver goals when the team is struggling to break opponents down.

João Pedro appears to be doing an excellent job so far, but my concern is what happens if he gets injured. Can we genuinely trust Welbeck, Delap, Jackson—if they remain—and Emegha to maintain the same level of output? That is a major question for me.

Rodgers looks like a very good signing, although, personally, I would have prioritised a striker over another attacking midfielder. That said, I would still take Rodgers. He offers creativity, technical quality and the ability to score spectacular goals from outside the box—something we do not currently have enough of, particularly in terms of players who can consistently threaten from distance.

                  2. Another World-Class Centre-Back Is Needed

I also believe we need another top-level centre-back.

With Alonso’s preference for a back three, squad depth in central defence becomes even more important. Colwill and Fofana are both excellent defenders, but availability is a concern. Fofana has struggled with injuries, while Colwill, although not generally considered injury-prone, has already suffered a serious ACL injury. It is reasonable to question how that experience might affect his physical condition and confidence over time.

If we are going to rely consistently on a three-man defensive structure, we cannot afford to enter the season with insufficient depth at centre-back. We need another genuinely high-quality option who can compete for a starting position rather than simply provide numbers.

                  3. Midfield Needs More Depth

I also think we need another midfielder regardless of what happens with Enzo.

Personally, I would prefer Enzo to leave, particularly if the club can reinvest the money effectively. But whether he stays or goes, the midfield needs greater depth and athleticism.

Caicedo has one of the midfield positions effectively locked down. I believe Lavia could be an excellent partner for him if he can finally establish his fitness. His injury record has been frustrating, but playing once a week could potentially give him the opportunity to build consistency and complete 90 minutes regularly.

If Lavia can stay fit, I think he has the profile to complement Caicedo very well. Reece James could also get an opportunity in midfield, particularly if Enzo leaves. His ability to play centrally could give Alonso another tactical option.

                  4. Wing-Back Positions

On the right, Palestra looks set to occupy the RWB position, with Gusto providing cover. I think that is a sensible arrangement.

I am less convinced that Reece James is ideally suited to playing as a traditional wing-back, particularly one expected to constantly bomb forward and recover defensively. Given his physical history, I would rather see him deployed as the right-sided centre-back in a back three or potentially in midfield alongside Caicedo.

On the left, Chavaria appears to have that position locked down. However, against weaker opposition, I would seriously consider using Neto as the left wing-back. His attacking ability could give us an additional offensive dimension and potentially increase our goal threat.

Quenda also provides another option in that position, which gives Alonso useful tactical flexibility.

                  5. Managing Estêvão’s Development

I would keep Estêvão as Palmer’s primary alternative and give him meaningful minutes throughout the season.

He has enormous potential, but the priority should be developing him gradually rather than putting excessive pressure on him to become a primary attacking outlet immediately. Regular involvement, particularly in matches where Chelsea are in control, should allow him to develop confidence and adapt to the demands of English football.

                  6. The Goalkeeper Situation Is My Biggest Concern

My biggest concern every season remains the goalkeeper position.

I simply do not think we can afford to go into next season with Sánchez as our undisputed No. 1. After three seasons, I have not seen enough improvement to convince me that he is the long-term solution. If there has been limited progression over that period, why should we expect a dramatic improvement now?

I understand that Penders is reportedly being groomed to eventually take over as the first-choice goalkeeper, but I do not think Chelsea can afford to gamble an entire season on potential. We need a goalkeeper who can perform at a Champions League level now, not one who might reach that level in the future.

Failing to address the goalkeeper position could mean shooting ourselves in the foot. Missing out on Champions League football for a second consecutive season at Stamford Bridge would be a major setback for the club, both competitively and financially.

Last season, two of the areas that significantly let us down were defensive consistency and goalkeeping. We appear to have taken steps to address the defensive side of the squad, so I expect the same level of ambition to be applied to the goalkeeper position.

Alonso Is Potentially the Biggest Signing of the Summer

Ultimately, however, I think Xabi Alonso could be our biggest signing of the summer.

A manager capable of organising the team, improving our defensive structure, establishing a clear tactical identity and, most importantly, unlocking Palmer again could make a huge difference.

If Alonso can get the best out of Palmer while simultaneously improving the team’s defensive stability and tactical discipline, Chelsea have a very good chance of reclaiming a Champions League position in the top four or five.

The squad is certainly stronger than it has been in previous seasons, but there are still important questions to answer. A proven goalscorer, another elite centre-back, additional midfield depth and, above all, a reliable goalkeeper could be the difference between another frustrating season and a genuine return to the Champions League.

Hope you all had a great summer and enjoyed the world cup.

Without Europe i am hoping we get top 4 this season.

It has been an interesting weekend of results!
I guess new players getting use to there new systems and some bad team selections.

Tonight its our turn, i hope you are right 67!
I agree i think its to balance books too. We have bought another 8 players this transfer.

I would like to see Lavia in your team Aindro.

67 – I admire your optimism but we still have a suspect GK, a defence that will be playing an unfamiliar system and no out and out striker. Not a good recipe for success away against Fulham for our first match of the season… Enciso did look really good, I actually thought we were going to sign him, but yes probably Blueco needed to flog him to balance the books.

Agree with most of what you said Wise-fan. I’ve been banging the same drum over the summer. I would disagree over Enzo – I’m not happy with public comments about Madrid or his antics at the World Cup but he is genuinely a quality midfield player and we would be diminished if he left, especially as there isn’t enough time to find a quality replacement. In any case, we will get a big clue about his future if he’s left out against Fulham.

Mudryk is linked with a loan move to Leeds. Not a fan of them obviously, but it could be a good move for him whilst giving Alonso and the club staff a chance to take a look at his performances.

It’s great too see everyone back posting. Hope y’all had a good summer and are coming back refreshed.
I have the same feeling as Blues1967 & srilankanblue that we would have a good result but also I can see what Wise-Fan & Ed say that this is a derby, so it tends to be a difficult match. So let’s just see and enjoy the match. I just ask my boss to finish early today as I want to stream the match live, let’s see if he will be ok with that. My prediction is 1-3 for Chelsea with Palmer scoring.

About Enciso, we had Buonanotte before, Garnacho … we cannot buy all the talents in the world. We are already packed in the midfield and attacking midfield slots. And some players look good for other teams but can’t develop at Chelsea. I would prefer Xabi concentrating on our current squad and if possible sell some players to balance the book. About Enzo, if we can sell him for the price we ask, I totally agree. We can forgive him but it’s just happened too many times. The insult to French players after Argentina won the world cup, and recently the Madrid fiasco. No doubt he is a good player but for me his mentality isn’t right for Chelsea.

Surprise results day 1 cannot be interpreted for anything but I cannot help to think that we have a chance. Every team bar Arsenal is unstable due to the changing manager and players. City were lucky to win. Liverpool were lucky to draw. Man Utd lost. Villa, it’s early but I am not sure how they can cope with the loss of Tielemans, Digne, Rogers and soon Watkins and Emi Martinez.

Hope that we’ll get a victory for our opening match. KTBFFH

This is our starting line-up against Fulham:
Chelsea: Sanchez; Acheampong, Lacroix, Colwill; Gusto, James (c), Lavia, Hato; Palmer, Rogers, Joao Pedro
Chelsea substitutes: Penders, Chavarria, Barco, Fernandez, Neto, Quenda, Gittens, Estevao, Welbeck

Not sure what happens with Palestra, he isn’t even amongst substitutes. Same as Caicedo, he is not in the squad. With Hato & Gusto on the wing backs and Lavia & James on central midfields. A weird line-up in my opinion without Caicedo.

                            Not a good lineup.

Can only assume Palestra and Caicedo are injured.

Enzo left out quite possibly for the reason I alluded to above – could be on on his way out. Would really dislike seeing him to City.

Hato doesn’t give me a lot of confidence offensively, he seems more like a left sided central defender than a full back but let’s see.

The one upside is that the bench looks almost as exciting as our starting XI.

Ed de Goey, agreed. I was so confident and now I am starting to worry. No Caicedo, our ball winner, not even on the bench. He must be injured; I hope nothing serious. Palestra, not sure either, he was all the time present during the pre-season but it’s more Caicedo’s absence that worries me the most.

Enzo, he is on the bench. I suppose it’s because Caicedo is absent. We can’t leave the midfield wide open as Enzo defends much less than Lavia or James both both of them defend much less than Caicedo. Our bench, if we can keep the score 0-0 until 60th minute, I think Xabi could then substitute Hato and Gusto to Chavarria and Neto and possibly Lavia or James to Enzo.

Sanchez is useless. The first thing he did was kick the ball straight into touch from kick off, he’s been crap all game and the goal he just let in I don’t think any other keeper in the Premiership would have let in. Woeful.

Their goal, Sanchez was at fault big time. Small angle and he got beaten. I think Xabi is starting to regret not to bring a new GK. Our attacking play looks good though with Palmer, Pedro & Rogers all connecting well. But the defending is pretty much suspect. Hato is weak, but Colwill somehow is our weakest link in the first half besides Sanchez (this we kinda know).

One positive point from our defender is Lacroix. An absolute steal it looks to me so far.

Not a great clearance header but Sanchez at fault again. Just palmed the ball straight back out in front of him rather than push to the side. It’s been so obvious ever since we signed Sanchez that he wasn’t up to scratch.

Well well got what I wanted, to be entertained, 3 goals, 3 points and the big three up front scoring a goal each, Pedro, Rogers and then Palmer. Hopefully Cole’s injury is only minor. Defensively a bit suspect and Sanchez his usual unreliable self letting in at his near post. There’s still time to do something about it. Maybe, as the commentators suggested Martinez from Villa an option.

Our front 3 certainly look very dangerous and incredibly sharp. One hopes that will improve further as they develop a closer affinity and understanding of each other’s games. Palmer particularly looked good, more like the Palmer of a few seasons ago.

Lavia had a good game and Lacroix looked good on debut. Acheampong also gave a good account of himself.

Enzo looked quite good when he came on, his passing was incisive and more direct. We will miss him if he leaves, especially as I’m not 100% convinced of Reece playing CM.

I was a bit nervous when Xabi threw on Estevao and Quenda in the 82nd minute – not sure about using attacking teenagers to close a game out but in the end Fulham didn’t pose much of a threat towards the end.

Of course, we should have simply been 3-0 up and not had to suffer the nerves at all in the first place, but numb nuts in goal had other ideas. It wasn’t just the goals, he looked like a bag of nerves for the entire match. He’s not a ball playing GK, so if he’s not a good shot stopper, then what exactly is he?

67 – Martinez is a good shout actually. Given his age, he wouldn’t suppress Penders’s progress/development.

Brilliant performance upfront, very very shaky at the back not only Sanchez but the whole defence. Not sure how his going to manage all these players with Caceido, Palestra, Enzo, Neto all probable starters. Estevo and a couple more dont look happy as subs. For me Henderson and Welbeck were unnecessary signings. Just adding to the payroll. Anyway 3 good points against an always tricky opponent.

                                            The match vs Fulham:
I did not regret asking to leave earlier from work. It was a really entertaining match. Fulham and Chelsea both wanted to attack and our attack did not disappoint. Cole Palmer looked to be limping though, it looked like hamstring but I hope it is just as Xabi said: cramp. He played really well yesterday, our best player by far and should have scored more.

Our defense is shaky to say the least. As Carragher says: we won’t be champion with Sanchez at goal. Acheampong but especially Colwill looked really uncomfortable at the back 3. Colwill was lucky not to get a red card and their 2nd goal, he was at fault. Acheampong was lucky that Antonee Robinson did not score.

                                            Transfer window:
The latest rumour is that City are preparing a bid for Enzo. My feeling is that they will leave it until the very last moment and will leave us no time to secure a replacement. They will try to make our life difficult. In any case, any bid under the 120m price IMO should be straight away rejected by Chelsea.

About GK, I think if we can get Nick Pope of Newcastle, he would be a great addition. Newcastle don’t need him anymore; he can ease the pressure from Penders. GK can make mistakes, series of mistakes, but for Sanchez, I think I got enough. He cost us points, and looking at his performance yesterday: he was lucky not to costing us any point. He will cost us points in the near future.
