The full Frank quote is worth reading.
It’s not down to one player,” Lampard said. “We didn’t have enough quality in the final third. My gripe this season is that we are not converting enough chances.
“Generally, collectively we could have handled that game better. This isn’t the worst thing for us as long as we react in the right way.”
Giroud’s inclusion was one of five changes to the side that had drawn 2-2 in the Mestalla on Wednesday night, but while several fringe players missed out on the chance to impress, Lampard defended his decision to rotate.
“Tammy was enforced,” he added. “At the same time I have to think about the squad and when we have a taxing game, I have to think about how fresh we are right now. When we had a really taxing game where we give everything physically and arrive back late, I have to think about how fresh we can be.
“We’re not going to get through this season with the same 10 or 11 players.”1st December 2019 at 8:42 pm #55099PaganParticipant272 pts
Well to be honest if he’s thinking about using 10 or 11 players then I think we’ve found one problem I can help with, use 11😀😀😀……Pagan1st December 2019 at 8:53 pm #55103

Anyone else think we might be entering the usual November/December form downturn?
We were pretty awful against Valencia and somehow came away with a draw, and we were dire on Saturday.
We should have beaten the hammers, instead, Spurs pulled us back to a six point gap as have Wolves.
Lampard will know from his time as a player, momentum is key, and you play your best players at all times… Just look at that angry middle aged Italian coach Conte. Not rested any of his players since the start of the season. Jose is the same. Carlo and all the managers who won trophies at Chelsea keep the same starting 11. These are very young men, will run all day, have very quick powers of recovery.3rd December 2019 at 1:41 pm #55303
Rumour doing the rounds at Bristol City is that Chelsea agreed to sell them Jay Da Silva and Kasey Palmer if City signed Massengo from Monaco for Chelsea because of Chelsea’s transfer ban he does look a fantastic prospect???
“Bristol City have completed the signing of young midfielder Han-Noah Massengo, who arrives in BS3 on a four-year contract.
Frenchman Massengo, 18, arrives from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco where he graced the UEFA Champions League. He was the first player to be born in the 21st Century to play in Europe’s largest club competition.
He made six appearances last season upon his call-up from Monaco’s B side.”3rd December 2019 at 2:28 pm #55315AmzParticipant6 pts
I didn’t have a problem with Giroud playing, as long as we adapted to his strengths. I saw that we crossed the ball more when he came off than when he was on the pitch. Also Bats is hugely frustrating. He spends a large amount of time offside. Against City i think he was flagged 6 times from us having the ball in defence…
Again this result strengthens my argument that we need a couple of high calibre players straight in to our first 11 and then a couple of really good players for our squad in order to compete with Liverpool and City3rd December 2019 at 3:00 pm #55324
Tough game tomorrow night Villa will sit deep with 10 men behind the ball and try and catch Chelsea on the breakn and they have some quality to do that and on set pieces.
The plus points are we will be better rested than we were after the Valencia CL away game where we didn’t get back until the early hours of Thursday morning after a very physically challenging game with West Ham having a full week of rest and time to prepare for our game. And we will field a stronger team than we did v West Ham too.
Similar game to the Palace game imo and JT knows us well.
Fingers crossed for 3 points3rd December 2019 at 5:31 pm #55358
Massive welcome awaiting JT on his first return to the Club in a competitive capacity.
Let’s hope that’s all we give Villa.😊3rd December 2019 at 5:38 pm #55360
AMZ… you would be desperately upset if you paid to watch him against West Ham and ill be desperately unhappy if he starts tomorrow against Villa. Giroud walked around the park and the ball bounced off him like he’s a wall with a goalpost painted on it over the weekend. Raid the youth team for someone who can run and pay up his contract and ship him off Tomorrow….
A five year old I know would beat Giroud in a foot race. Worryingly, he was bullied off the ball too In the game.
I expect three points, I dont expect Giroud to start.4th December 2019 at 6:36 pm #55425
that is the line up i saw. not sure how accurate it is. but it looks like 4-3-3.4th December 2019 at 6:42 pm #55427

Poor marking has been our undoing once again. it’s high time that what are our cbs doing when you see only James chasing the player?5th December 2019 at 9:32 am #55510
“The best team won on the night. We grew into each half. Disappointed with the manner of the goals, two crosses.
“We want to be a passing and moving team, but we didn’t move it quick enough.
“We sat off too much and allowed them to play. Heaton made a superb save from the free-kick.”
“I thought there were three Kante’s on the pitch. Chelsea have top players,”

Tammy back last night made a huge difference going forward. Even Michy was pressing when subbed on.
James and Dave as fullbacks worked for me, but we seem to have a soft underbelly and I think our defenders simply have to be nastier, harder, and all round meaner.
I think Adding Lys Mousset to our attacking options would be a great signing come the end of season. I’d even possibly look at Solanke who knows the team emerging at the bridge if he didn’t burn his leaving.
Left back. Dave is great, but who else can we use in future? I think Christiensenn needs to be moved on, I like him, but in four years he’s never cemented his place and Im not sure will remain I the side when Rudiger is back. Wonderful times to be along at the bridge.5th December 2019 at 11:28 am #55541sean the sailorParticipant319 pts
Chelsea are going to drop points like West Ham as they are going through a huge transition period
You can only applaud the job frank is doing. He’s improving players. Young lads look really good and will Only get better.
Don’t take this the wrong way! Frank had made Chelsea a bit likeable these days 😆
Chelsea fans in here are great though. Add a lot to the forum which seems to be growing more and more5th December 2019 at 11:33 am #55544steveosnakeeyeParticipant167 pts5th December 2019 at 11:41 am #55550
Sean, not overly bothered if we’re liked or not, I just want to see bright attractive football. There were groans last night when we conceded… We all knew it was coming… Got to say, I’d love to see an England midfield with Mount and Grealish in it. The Villa captain just didnt give away the ball last night. his round the corner ball carved us open for them to equalise. Really impressive player and he turned Kante a couple of times. Southgate can do a lot worse than pick him and if he was less than Sancho to buy, I think he’s every bit as good and could see him doing very well in Lampard’s side.
Anyhow, Still think top 4 will be difficult this season. Fingers crossed we get there. I just wonder how long before Abraham pushes Kanne out of the England starting 11… not for a while as he has lots of learning to do, but it wont be long.

442, why the groans? This is a huge transitional period for Chelsea. There is going to be set backs along the way
You can see Chelsea are trying f to play high octane football. You can see improvement and you can what Lampard is trying to do. What style of play etc and he’s only there 6 months.
The same can’t be said about ole who is at utd for a year. Utd have no style of play. Chelsea do5th December 2019 at 12:25 pm #55576
Sean… I said at the start of the season the defence was going to be an issue. It still is… We’re just defending better from the front. I think there were far too many crosses being allowed into the box last night from either flank. ( guess its trying to defend compactly) Villa’s goal should have been cut out from there, it wasn’t, then Trezuguet had the time for the ball to hit him on the face and bobble off his shin. I had a chuckle it was so comical. It was similar in the second half too, so when Villas manager says they grew into both halves, they really did.
But it was the five minutes before the goal where villa got on the ball and used it really well and Chelsea were trying to pass it out from obscure positions along the back line. Sometimes you simply need to hoof the ball clear. If im being super critical, Id argue the likes of Tammy, Pulisic and Willian (my mom last night) along with mount need to drop deeper and wider. At times only Kante was back and it looked disjointed.
TBH – if we score more than concede fans will be happy. Three points last night and one the evidence, Villa have a little more than others so should be ok. McGinn is a useful player so between him and Grealish, they will have enough to stay up.
