8th January 2026 at 11:00 pm #236222โOur society seems have change and I notice this in lots of different aspects.โ
Yep, for the worst! If that was done in the 70-80’s the pitch would have been like the royal rumble and one yellow given.

8th January 2026 at 11:12 pm #236226Thanks Asian, appreciated.
Whether there is justification to retaliate from one side of the fence, I guarantee there will be others who will call out otherwise. It probably would stand better before the Digital age where people actually had more common sense.
I just think back to a parallel in Eric Cantona and 1995. In the eyes of some, he probably did the right thing, but he faced ultimately the consequences for his behaviour against the vile Crystal Palace fan hurling racist abuse.
Imagine if one of our lot confronted Martinelli and decked him? How would the back pages have looked like?

8th January 2026 at 11:18 pm #236229Nil, no thanks needed. Your point is correct, with cameras and var you cant get away with violence! Look at Neverton yesterday.. refs need any excuse to send someone of these days .. and then the fa who i dont trust and are incompetent to say the least would have suspended our players until 2045!

Yep, we now live in a society of videoing on your phone and not stepping in! If you think thats the way we should be…I cant agree with that, but I respect your view.-

8th January 2026 at 11:38 pm #236233I do agree with the overall sentiments Moonster and justification; i.e. sticking up for your brother/team mate. I coming however from looking at the bigger picture and the way society now perceives.
You are so right with the point of Smart Phones and this is one of the areas I allude to on the point of living in a digital age.
I believe we’ll soon see something coming out from the officials with a retrospective overturn and a subsequent games ban on Martinelli for his actions.
I will hold on to my position of being glad purely from a different point of view in not retaliating and dealing with the consequence of a suspension adding to our absences.

9th January 2026 at 12:03 am #236236That’s it Rob. This team is lacking on and off field leadership and a distinct lack of physicality. You’d expect van Dijk to be more present but he seems to be in self preservation mode

9th January 2026 at 12:08 am #236237Yeah at what consequence? I remember when henderson got sent off a few years ago for doing something similar and there was an outcry and the questioning of his captaincy and professionalism on teamtalkโฆ look i know a lot of youse are disappointed that liverpool didnt lose, so all you could do was jump on the โslots made us into sluts and in our days we woulda twatted imโ crap but seriously the team were sensible and professional about the situation.. didnt lose their heads in the final moments and got a result at a very difficult place!

9th January 2026 at 12:12 am #236239I can see both sides Fulcrum. VVD would want cool heads and to his credit the situation didn’t escalate. On the other hand, I’ve mentioned for a while now the lack of steel in mid, that combative element as opposed to just simply covering space, nullifying passing lanes (essential of course) but there’s times (many times) that a ‘fuckin bring it then’ attitude is needed and don’t see that from our mid, in particular, at all. It ain’t Slot’s style tho so I do need to file this in the out tray.
Don’t want to diss after tonight though, we all worked hard and secured a really, really good point. Remember, only City had take anything from them this season at The Emirates.

9th January 2026 at 12:32 am #236240Nice attempted strawman there Asian.
But it is really a very simple question of character
…..someone else mentioned the type of society we now live in…
and to use that as an example, anyone that actually thinks they have inherent rights need only look at the current global unfoldings in ‘Trump’s hemisphere’.
The weak really have no rights, they are only afforded rights by the strong. And we all, hopefully, want to live in a society where everyone can feel safe and valued, but that only happens when there are ones who are willing to use their strength for the betterment of others.
Definitely an overly dramatic parallel to what is mirrored on the pitch, but coming to the defense of others when they are vulnerable can at times come with a cost. I prefer the type of people who think it’s worth it rather then keep your head down and your nose clean and …shouldn’t someone else do something…In recent games we had this from Martinelli and Richardson’s behavior towards Ekitike also went unpunished. No one is calling for mindless lashing out but other teams now smell a weakness from us because we’ve lost all our steel and grit from the team. Klopp instilled that grit and togetherness. Slot has evaporated it.

9th January 2026 at 12:40 am #236241Asian, I think once the dust has settled a bit with time, I’m hoping all round, this will be seen as a real positive by all of us.
Ok, no win, no goals, but boy for me I thought we played with more purpose than we have done for a while.
We grab hold of this both hands, treat Barnsley seriously in the Cup, win our next game at in the league and get through January on a Positive Note with good CL results, and I’d be confident in transforming our season.

9th January 2026 at 12:42 am #236242I’m still glad of us keeping our counsel. I know exactly what tomorrow’s back pages would look like and would undo our class act and a professional and first class performance.

9th January 2026 at 12:50 am #236244Anywayโฆ im gonna leave the playground stuff behind and concentrate on the game.
The positives for the game, the team were disciplined and organised. Finally having all those midfielders paid off, we controlled the second half with easeโฆ connor bradley and frimpong linked up well. Frimpong is finally showing why we paid 30mill for him, hopefully he stays injury free and how he will fit in the system. Our bench was valued at ยฃ62mill compared to Arsenals ยฃ273mill(and people are talking about our summer window), so slot was sensible enough to play with the same team till the end.. not risking someone for the blame game. Mac played well, good passing from him, szobo got MOM but for me i thought grav looked back to his best today, with strong runs in mid and strength to win balls in the middle. konates shown in the past 3 games why hes a French international and a prem league winner. Kerkez worked really hard and bombed a few times down the wing. Still no end product, good crosses or passing but small steps are taking place.
Negatives, connor bradley injury. The past few games have shown the understanding he has with frimpong in Defence and attack. Im praying that its nothing too serious for bradley, not just for pool but also NI. They face Italy in the qualifiers in late march, would be great for him to be at the world cup. The other negative was the way we started the game, the first half was worrying, until the Bradley chance.. thats the point when arsenal were brought back to earth. No rio again, but heโll get his chance at barnsley, where alot of the players be rested after todays game.

9th January 2026 at 12:58 am #236245so asian how old are you since you brought it up? lol Shit performance, no quality going forward but that was to be expected, Slot is holding onto his dear life at the club. It was not likely he would venture forth or bring any sort of pressure on Arsenal, which was a shame because they were actually there for the taking. I told one of my Arsenal mates that the title is theirs unless City go un a rampage for 20 straight games but this was not a mark of a true champion, like they are not strong enough to compete anywhere else this season but the title is theirs for the taking. Itยดs gonna be a real shitfest if we do not pull up a result in our next home game! We need a dominant win in our next match!
